Darien's Protectors

Rushmore Academy was as big as the mountain it shared its name with, and it was indeed a good school: the Science Faculties were located in the Octagon, a large building on the North site of the campus, while the Artistic branches of learning were held in the Heptagon, an equally large structure on the South; both the buildings were build around a nice garden, but the whole area was an enormous park with pretty vaste groups of trees and beautiful gardens. The Music Hall, used for dances and parties, was on the East while the Library, shaped like an Ancient Greek Temple yet built on twelve floors, was on the West, and here and there you could find the buidings dedicated to Sports, including the Pool and the Football Field.

In a few words, a nice place.

But it didn't seem nice to Darien, even if it was a pleasant Spring morning and the flowers were blossoming around him. The 19 years old teen was very cute, although he was not even 5 feet tall: he had a slender and graceful body, now covered by green pants and shirts with a white jacket and white tennis shoes, and his azure eyes and short blond hair attracted the attention of many girls, yet he thought only about... Artie and Kurt!

*Those two bastards!* he thought, grunting in helpless anger.
His two roommates had been bullying and tormenting him since the first day of school: being the jocks that they were, and coming from rich and influent families, the two jerks had no troubles in making him make what they wanted, beating him when he rebelled, that happened often, since he wasn't the type who gives up without a fight.

Of course, the fact that Darien was one of the few human students in a school mostly attended by anthros didn't help him at all.
Artie, a 6'7'' tall green dragon, and Kurt, a 6' 5'' tall lion, openly disliked humans, and had tormented also the other two human rommates, who eventually had given up and left a few days earlier.

*I wonder how are the new roommates going to be....* the teen mused, walking toward the group of cottages that hosted many students, each one surrounded by a small garden. *They were supposed to arrive today.*

He opened the gate and glanced with affection to the roses he tended each day. *Well, I hope the two newcomers at least aren't flower haters.*

Walking inside the cottage, he listened carefully to find out if someone was home; when he was sure to be alone, he sighed in relief, *No torment until evening, I hope* and he got to the kitchen to put his groceries into the refrigerator

Yin and Yang, two martial artists rabbits, arrived on campus and looked around.

"Remember Yang," Yin, a black-furred rabbit with black and silver colored clothing and matching tabis, commented, "We are here to learn and sharpen our skills, not to engage in conflicts."

"Whatever Yin," Yang, a white-furred rabbit with blue and white colored clothing with matching tabis, replied, "I'll do whatever I feel like."

Yin sighed and shot his brother a stern look. Yang shrugged and kept on walking. Yin had hazel colored eyes whereas Yang had blue colored eyes. Both rabbits were 7 feet tall and carried duffel type bags with them. Both rabbits soon walked up to their new home and rang the doorbell.

Darien opened the door; since Kurt and Artie never rang the doorbell, he supposed it was his new roommates.

When he saw the newcomers, the kid was startled for a moment. "Wow, they're even huger than the two jerks!* he thought.

Then he greeted the two politely. "Good afternoon; I'm Darien Walton. Are you the two new ones here?"

"Yes," Yin replied, "I'm Yin and this is my brother Yang."

"Hey," Yang commented, "Just show me my room."

Yin glared at Yang, who didn't seem to notice.

"Errr, sure." Darien said, intimidated by the size of the two. "It's upstairs."

He walked toward the staircase, while asking, to break the ice, "I suppose you're twins?"

Yang entered and headed for the stairs.

"Yes we are," Yin replied, "Although I'm the older twin by 4 minutes."

Yang snorted as he ascended the stairs by 2 steps at a time.

Darien smiled... perhaps the two were nice guys.

He opened the door of a spacious room. "My room is beside yours, and our roommates' room is on the other side of the hallway." he explained. "I hope you'll enjoy staying here. Do you need anything?"

"I'm fine," Yang replied as he entered the room and started unpacking.

"I would like a tour," Yin responded.

"A tour around the campus or just around the house?" Darien asked.

At the same time, the teen couldn't prevent himself from glancing curiously down to the two rabbits' big socked feet. He was used to see anthros either wearing shoes or boots, either going barefoot, but that was the first time he met anthros going around with just socks on their feet. *A bit weird!* he thought.

"Both," Yin replied.
