Incandescently Not • [Silvery_Lady~]
Legs flatly crossed upon the chaise, Edel hummed to himself as he pinned moth's wings to the flat of a board, twilight streaming through the cracks of his curtains as he examined the still-fluttering insect through batting lashes. He received a letter from his father that someone would be visiting that evening, but hadn't really cared all too much in regards to the notice. The young noble was ready to accept such a mystery person maybe an hour ago, but now? Edel was too immersed in his own personal amusements to concern himself with any visitors, 'important' or not. He was much too busy.
With careful, navy eyes, he watched the night-time critter, jotting down notes in messy, looped cursive every so often. Black ink smudged the left of his hand, staining skin ivory with comforts of the sheltered. The moth's wings twitched, and Edel smiled to himself, sketching them.
“I'll pick some more of you later," he mused.

Dairon was walking compositely along the corridor, following the servant who was guiding him to the apartment of the young lord.
Once they reached the door, the servant stopped and knocked, to warning about their upcoming entrance, but Dairon gently pushed him away.
-I would much prefer to introduce myself privately, if you don't mind.- he told the other man, who nodded after a moment of perplexity. After all the Count had gave to the servants quiete precise orders about the matter: the new tutor of Lord Edel was now in charge of everything concerning his son.
So, a secon later, the male elf opened the door and walked in, bowing shortly to the teen he found in the room.
He was really, really tall and despite his slender figure, there was something in his posture and his expression that was suggesting a certain strength.
His deep lilac eyes focused on the kid.
-I'm glad to meet you, young Edel.- he said, colling him by his name and not his title -My name is Dairon Kanan, i will be your new Preceptor. I'm sure that your father had told you about this.-
Dairon stepped forward, looking around and clearly evaluating the room and the little lord himself.
-You should sit properly, by the way. You're not a peasant.- he scolded him after a moment, with his calm and cold voice, while taking off his cape, showing his clothes.
He was wearing a some simple dark pants, a green embroidered tunic, pair of leather boots...and a rattan cane, which was hanging from his belt, like a sword.

Casually and collectively, Edel was sketching the physical attributes of the impaled moth, left fingers suctioned around the utensil with ease, and drawing its bodice down to every last, intercalate detail. The notes left scattered across the page were just as artistic, organized neat and very precise. As he spent his minutes working, the seventeen-year-old experimentally stabbed the paper-thin folds of the wings every now and again, creating punctures he stared at and smiled, oblivious to the exchange going on outside his doors.
The moth's milky wings fluttered weak and unhealthy, before its movements stopped altogether. Edel inched closer, poking it with the tip of his ink-stained pinky. “Hm,” he said, eyeing the dead thing a few seconds longer, before going back to his sketching. The knock of flesh on door was heard, but the sandy-haired male payed it no mind, ears playing the role of a deaf grandmother's.
Vaguely, he recognized that feet were entering the room, but didn't glance up once from the page, not until he was finished with his illustration, and even then, took his time; dark eyes flecking upwards at the stranger invading the space. His space. But Edel still smiled, intensely watching the Preceptor with that slouch in his back, until the comment was made. Slightly, he straightened, tucking the sketchbook under one arm, and standing himself. “Hello, Dairon Kanan. What a pleasure it is for you to grace your presence here, three hours late." Edel smirked pleasantly.

The elf stood there, observing the reaction of his new pupil and his thin eyebrows lowered over his severe eyes, making him acquire a quite stern aspect: it was widely known that elves were the most strict teachers, all over the land.
-I'm never late. I went to meet you father perfectly on time and he has kept me there for a long while, talking about you.- Dairon answered -And you're not in the position to question his decision, are you? Nor mine, from now on.- he added, a small sarcastic grin suddenly drew over his face.
Then he took another couple of steps toward the human, towering over him and staring at his face almost without blinking.
-You will address to me as "Sir", in first place. Is that clear?- Dairon announced -I will be responsible for any aspect of your life and education, starting from today. I will teach you and, if you don't behave properly, i will discipline you.- he concluded -Any question, young man?-

Alongside the elf, Edel allowed his own eyebrows to raise in similar fashion as if copy-catting his expressions, all instantaneously, continuing to smile. But, it was so subtle, and so slight, and once the taller had stopped, as did Edel. If his father had kept him estate-bound for that long of a time, quite the chat they must've had. The boy remained completely unfazed.
“Yes, how nice,” he stated, picking up the board and the moth that marred it with one sharp thrust of his arm. “I never was questioning his decision. I was merely stating that you were late, which is quite the truthful fact, is it not? I believe it is. And there shouldn't be any problems with facts, now should there be?" he chuckled.
Edel kept the items safely tucked beneath each armpit, eyeing the new teacher without sprouting a single word. He then blinked, lips curled kindly. "No, there aren't any questions, sir."
Easily, he side-stepped him, trotting off towards his desk where he put down his sketchbook, and hung up the board with the dozen others adorning one wall, dead insects nailed on like withered, crucified paintings. Edel didn't glance at the elf again, taking down a sturdy net from a hook.

-No, it's not a fact. My appointment was with you father, not with you. I don't have appointments with children and i don't appreciate the above mentioned children who tries to outsmart me.- Dairon answered nonchalantly, absolutely unimpressed by Edel's attitude.
The kid seemed a bit sassy to him, but in a clever way, which was uncommon.
The elf had already worked as Preceptor in many other noble houses, and he was used to young lords and ladies who were always acting like spoiled, superficial brats.
Anyway, when the other told him that he had no questions or doubts, the tall elf nodded slightly.
-Fine, then.- he said -It strange, though. Until now every kid that i took as a pupil has questioned me about my intentions. Especially when i mention discipline.- Dairon added, following the little lord to his desk and observing his doing -Very interesting.- he said, sincerely.
Then, his attention moved to Edel's face once more.
-So, i'm sure that you have got others teachers before...i would appreciate if you could tell me something about their habits. And yours. You may discover that having someone like me for a tutor can be a little different.- he added -For example: how many hours do you dedicate to study everyday? Which subjects have you approached until now? And how have you been punished in the past?-

Allowing his pale finger to trace the outline of one particularly-abused cicada, the boy stared intently into the insect's broad abdomen, its legs. Thick lashes partially blocked his vision, but indefinitely, he did not mind; Edel continuing his intense navy staring as he peeled off a crusty layer of skin. "Mm," he mumbled offhandedly at the elf's words, as if in a trance, and stared at the skin, examining it in his hand. "Well, I see no need to question any intention of yours, lest you be a murderer or common, impersonate scum. Or a whore. If you are any of those, kindly get yourself out of my house immediately."
Saying this with utmost sincerity, the sandy blonde plucked the net off the wall and lightly rapped it against the ground, testingly, for some reason. He then turned on his heel, swinging it at random through the air as if jousting. "Yes, I have had other teachers. They all left. I do not know why. They just did."
He continued to swing, eyes glazed with nonchalance as he headed for the billowing silk curtains covering a section of his room. Setting them all aside with one sweep of the stick end of the net, Edel walked through, and slid open the door to the balcony, his bare feet tapping stone as he stepped into the night air. “When it comes to studying, I dedicate as many hours as I need. In regards to subjects, I've studied English, various sciences, anthropology."
Along the balcony, he twirled, tossing his net off its edge. “Punishment?" Edel paused, placing an index to his lip. "Lines. Ruler to the arm." He smiled wryly. "Mathematics." Maneuvering his lean body through the spaces of the balcony bars so he was on its outside, the teen gripped part of a vine, and began climbing down. "That's that, I'll say."

Dairon lifted an eyebrow at the youngster's insinuation.
-Among my people i'm way more noble than your own family will ever be.- he said, with a hint of irritation in his voice -And you should not judge someone else only by his title or his work. It's stupid and superficial...typically human.- he shook his head a little, making his silvery hair to wave behind his back.
The elf followed Edel while he was walking around the room, trying to figure out why the kid was so restless: after all they were talking and he should have been more polite, looking at him in the face, not moving all over the place.
The Preceptor walked after him on the balcony, a bit perplexed, but without interrupting the conversation.
-I will add some more subjects to that list and you will study six hour per day, no exception.- Dairon announced to the boy, before hearing about all the teachers that had left and their ideas about punishment.
He sighed.
-Well, my young lord, i'm really hoping that i wont have to discipline you any soon, but if that should happen you will find my chastisements quite more...corporal.- the tall man told him, pointing out the cane he had at the belt with a gesture of his hand -This is not decorative. And if you disobey or disrespect me in any way, your hands and your backside will meet it closely.-
A second after, when the adult realized that the kid was about to climb down from the balcony, his eyes widened and his slight but strong hand was stretched forward immediately, grabbing Edel's wrist like a iron vice, pulling him backwards like if he was nothing more than a little child.
-That is dangerous. I forbid you to do such things again in the future.- his teacher scolded him -You're not a monkey, climbing on buildings or trees.-

Edel lightly scratched his arm, nails leaving behind pale, rake-like marks. "Of course you are, your sirness," the male agreed, voice emotionless and full of air. He wasn't really bothered with having more subjects or study hours added to his personal line of things to-do; there wasn't anything he could do about it anyways. Edel liked learning besides. While knowledge didn't exactly fascinate him— rarely anything did, apart from his bugs, among other things— it was still a way to pass the time, outsmart others with. Education had its uses. And he could always twist it to his advantage.
All else the Preceptor said was ignored, and the eccentric continued his trek around the balcony column and down the vine, his fingers digging into its dark, ropey leaves with a strong grip, and feet entangling into the greenery along with it. However, a few hefty shuffles down, he glanced up sharply, keeping a sticky, tight grip to the plant even as he was yanked.
Gripping it close and wrapping his legs around the vine, Edel struggled to stay attached to it, glancing briefly over his shoulder at the disruptive elf. "Oh, but I am," he stated calmly, navy eyes batting slow. "Did you know that the human species evolved from hominoideas? Also known as apes? But— oh, that's right. You aren't human, are you? Dear me." Pursing his lips condescendingly, Edel gave a soft sigh. "You obviously don't understand the strong, monkey urges that we face each day, wishing to climb like the beasts that we are. Oh." Whether he was spewing sarcasm or not, it was completely unknown, considering how honest his tone sounded then.
The boy blinked.
"Also, my net is down there."

-If you want to mock me, you better do that where i can't hear you.- Darion told him, with a warning gaze -For this time i'll let it pass, but be careful. I demand from my students the maximum respect all the time.-
Dairon was trying to make the young human understand that a few things soon will be changing in his life, but without any success...the boy was in fact interested only in his bugs and his net.
But Edel's exposure about apes and their evolution into humans had no impact on his Preceptor, not at all.
-I don't care.- he answered, with the kid wrist still in his power -You will not climb on anything else, from this moment. Is that clear? It wasn't a suggestion, it was an order. You can ask to one of the servant to search for your net, tomorrow. Now, since is almost night, you will change yourself for dinner and then you will go straight to bed. In the morning i will wake you up one hour after dawn, so you need to rest.- he ordered after, this time forcing the boy to look at him.
