A New Addition (For Passionate Shadow)

It was a dark, cold and rainy night in the busy city. Most were inside building. Either it be home, work or the bar having drinks from a stressful day. Most day time businesses were closed. Locking their door and turned on their security systems. To make sure that no one would dare to rob them. Though sometimes, that wasn't enough to keep the store safe. Within the bad side of down was a bit of a run down pawn shop. Which was actually own by a really nice man. Who was in his mid forty's. He had no wife, but a son. A kid he found on the street and decided to take home. Raising him like he was his all along. This boy is Tate Stones.

On this night. The shop owner had just put his son to sleep in his room. They lived just right above the shop. Two buildings in one. He went down stairs to do a double check of the place. Upstairs the little boy was asleep. With his arms wrapped around a stuff video game character. When all of a sudden he hears a loud bang coming from down the stairs. He woke and got out of bed. With the stuff toy wrapped in one arm. He goes down the stairs, looking for his daddy in the dark. Turning on the lights. He sees him...laying on the ground, in a pool of his own blood. Some one had broken in, robbed the store and shot his father. He was so scared. He tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't open his eyes. He then saw a figure in the shadows the ran by the window. He runs out after him, but quickly looses track of him. With that he didn't know what to do. He had no place to go...there was no choice but to run away.

The years has passed since then he his now a preteen. Spending most of his time in the park. Doing performances in front of others to make a quick buck. Mostly magic tricks. When that didn't give him enough money, he would turn to local shop owners and ask for small time jobs. They either paid him with money or food he took both. Right now he was on a set of rollerblades that he found in the trash. Rolling down the busy streets to deliver a box of oranges for a small produce shop to an elderly woman. Not looking where he was going. Tate was crossing the street on a busy road and the light was red for him, but green for the cars. He did even look until the driver was honking his horn. Making him stop in his tracks.

Suddenly Tate's world went flying in all directions as he was turned side wide ways as a massive impact took him. The car hadn't snatched the boy up. Instead it was a tall Tanned man who had sprinted out and embraced the much smaller figure and went rolling on to the side walk. He was sure to cover the head gently. Thus the younger male hadn't taken any damage from the roughened tumble. They were both now safely out of danger as the sounds of the scarping squelched to a top a little ways past them, Horns now going off and wisps of wind as cars went whizzing by. The chattering of people soon seemed to grow in volume over what had just happened. The figure had landed up right in a kneeling position as if out of habit. He gently pulled the smaller venture that had been previously pressed in to his broad chest back to inspect the smaller male. "Are you okay?" he asked in a smooth voice being sure to speak a bit slower and as clear as possible. He was a strange looking one with long black hair in a mess resting over such strong shoulders. His skin was bronze almost golden red. His cheek bones were high set with large almond shaped eyes that shined in a golden copper hue.
He rested the younger helping him sit up a bit as he pressed a comforting hand to his back and shoulder and rubbed to help sooth him from any shock he may be experiencing. "Hey kid...what's your name?" He asked. This stranger was dressed in tight blue jeans, fingerless grip gloves, and a taught navy blue tank top. Tenshi was previously on his way to open up his dojo when this ordeal had happened. He was built and had lightning fast reflexes. It would be no wonder to anyone who knew him why such a saving task could be possible.

From the corner of his eye. He saw the car coming right right. He didn't have any breaks on his rollerblades (the reason why they were thrown out). His eyes widen and though that this was it. This is how he was gonna go. He closed his eyes and waits for the impact, but it felt strange. It wasn't hard and cold. It was soft and warm. No car should feel this way. Unless it was made out of food. Like a cake or something. Even then there wouldn't need to be feared. Maybe he was already hit and the person that had his arms around him was his father. Though he thought that wouldn't be true after what happened.

Opening his eyes to look up, he was right. It wasn't his late father. He short of looked both disappointed but relief. His dartmouth green eyes looked from where his head was pressing against. Before looking up again. Looking more closely at the man's face. He looked different then what he had seen from most people. Never seen a man with long hair before. Tate's was short dark brown with white highlights. Some thought it was weird, but he liked it.

When asked if he was okay. He only nods his head. Still a little shaken up from almost getting hit with a car. He can hear the horns honking and the people chatting away. But his focus was more on the man that saved him. To him, he looked like he stepped out of a kung fu movie that he used to watch as a child. He then feels his hand rubbing his back. He hasn't felt that since he was a child. When it came to the question of his name. He looks at him and clears his throat. "I'm Tate." he tells him. in a stunned voice.

Just then he remembered what he was doing. "Oh no! The oranges!" he said. Looking onto the road to see that most of the oranges had been flatten by tires. He pushed himself away from the man and stand up. There were not any oranges that he could save. Letting out a sigh. "Great. Now I won;t have anything to eat for today." he said to himself and sigh. Turning his head towards the other male. "Oh, thank you for saving my life." he said politely.

Tenshi stood up as Tate stood up. He followed the boy's gaze off to the road and saw the orange mess in the street which could have been decidedly a different color had Tenshi not been there. The words that followed however seemed to catch Tenshi's attention in peculiar way. They had struck him as odd. "I think it'd be wise to take those skates off." he offered "What were they for?" he asked slightly curious. he figured following what seemed to be most important to the young one would help settle him from being shook up. He hopped the runt wasn't about to step back out in to traffic for some crushed oranges. He doubted it but was on his guard to snatch the smaller boy back if he started that way. " Why don't we step away from the street?" He asked setting a hand on his shoulder gently in an attempt to ease him away from the busy curb.

"But I can't." he tells him as he shook his head no. Looking back at the squished oranges on the streets. He couldn't believe he let that happen. What is he gonna tell the produce man and the elderly lady? He figured that maybe he could find an orange tree around and pluck the oranges off. Claiming that it was the produce guy's fruit. But there were hardly any trees around. He also notice that the address sheet was on the road to and he needed that.

Before he could get on the street. He was asked what the oranges are for. "I was making a delivery for the guy who runs a produce shop. To an elderly woman. But not they are all crushed. I needed the money for food. I haven't had anything to eat in two days." he said and sadly sighs. Not sure what he was gonna do now. There was a drinking fountain in the park. So he never goes thirsty, but he doesn't have money to by the hotdog or whatever food vender was in the park of the day.

Tate was about to go for the street. Until he was pulled back by the stranger. Telling him that he should stay away from what also took his life. He looked at Tenshi once more. "I need to grab something from the road." he said. Just then the cross light turned green. Meaning that it was okay for people to cross. So he goes back to the street and picks up the piece of paper off the ground. Before rolling his way back just in time. However, the sheet was covered in dirt, orange juice and tire tracks. Making it hard to read. "Oh, I can't read this.' he said and sighed again.

"I guess I'll just eat from the bins again." he said. Mostly thinking out loud. Just then he sees a man just throw away a half ate sandwich. He rolled on over and takes it out of the trash. It wasn't in there for long and he believe the five second rule.

Tenshi watched the boy a bit silently for a few moments and observed. He stepped over and snagged the back hem of those pants and tugged him back before easily plucking away the sandwich and tossing it back in. "Come on-If you're hungry I'll get you something to eat." Tenshi said. "I just have to open up the dojo first." he explained as he released Tate once he'd tugged him back from the trash a few feet. "How... old are you Tate?" he asked gently now starting to wounder just how long he'd been out of child services.

Tenshi was only slightly surprised at the type of manners the younger possessed.
He was already running late so he figured it wouldn't do any good to rush on over there and risk another accident.

Class wouldn't start for another hour so it wasn't imperative that he be there right away.

Feeling the hem of his pants being tugged. He looked over his shoulder to see that it was the stranger again. He thought by now that he would of left to mind his own busy. That's how this city ran. Everybody mind their ow business. No one had ever asked him as to why he was on the street and not at school or where his family was. Though even if he did. There was a chance he wouldn't tell them. It's his business and think that no one would care.

As he had the food taken out of his hand. He awed and looked at him with sad eyes. "Now why did you do that?" he asked as he was dragged away from the trash bin. Which was easy since he was on wheels. Hearing that he was willing to pay for lunch for him. He looked utterly surprise. But first he had to open his dojo. He remembered hearing something about that on one of his errand runs. But didn't really listen to it since he was busy with something else.

I-I don't mind. A free meal is a free meal." he said with a small smile on his face. When he asked for his age. He took a moment to think. "I think I am either twelve or thirteen." he tells him. For he doesn't know when his real birthday was and his late father just picked a random date. "But more importantly. Who are you?" he asked in a curious tone.

The elder male offered a genuine smile. "My name is Tenshi. " he responded before pausing a moment. "Here it's the equivalent to the word 'Angel'." He explained a little more. "Come now." he said leading the younger off towards where he was he added. "Do you have any idea what you'd like for breakfast?" he asked as he walked slowly making sure the younger was keeping up and staying alongside him. "I suppose later on I could help you with the produce man." he added in allowing his train of thought to be come vocal. He pocketed his hands slightly pushing his thumbs in to the cotton pockets of his blue jeans. "So Tate..." he called wishing to garner more attention from the boy as his own thoughts wandered a bit further. "Who's taking care of you? I should think we should call them up so you can get a trip to the hospital to make sure nothing's wrong after that little accident... yeah?"

The truth was Tenshi was probing around for more information about the boy and his health, perhaps find out where he came from or where he belonged as well.

To hear his name sound like was really nice one, compare to his own. Thinking that he was from a different country, thought he wouldn't ask. He was like the other people who lived here. He doesn't poke his nose where it doesn't belong. Though when he mention that his name meant angel. He was really starting to wonder if he was alive or not. That or he's his guardian angel. That made him smile and quietly chuckle. Like he would have such a thing.

He slowly followed him on this rollerblades. Though it was hard to keep his balance. He was so used to going fast on them. That's why he took them, it helps him get around easily. For he had no bike or money to take a cab. Going by foot was way to slow. This is one of the few good things he had found in the trash. When asked what he would like to have for breakfast. Tate looks at Tenshi with a smile. "Lots of beacon, tons of donuts, some hash browns and a large coke to drink it all down." he said with a lot enthusiasm. For that was the ultimate breakfast for him.

Hearing that he was going to help him with the produce guy. He looked surprise again, but smiled. "That's okay. It's my fault. I can deal with him myself. He'll just probably yell at me. It's not like he can really fire me since I don't actually work for him." he said. and he rolls beside the man. His eyes start to wonder around the streets. Watching the people go about on their day. Making him wish he was the same.

Tate's train of thought broke as the older male starts speaking again. After a moment of quiet. "This guy sure likes to talk a lot." he said to himself. The young boy's eyes were glued onto him. "Yes?" he asked in a curious tone. Tilting his head to the side, wondering what he was about to him next. Though when he did, he wasn't really ready for it. Now how is he suppose to answer that? He can't tell him the truth, he'll call the police and he didn't want to be placed in a home. Not after what happened. To make it worse he wanted him to see a doctor.

"But I already told you I'm fine. There's no need to get a doctor involved." he said in a fast and nervous tone. "I-I live with my dad. But...he's away. I have no way of contacting him." he tells him. Which in a way he was telling the truth. He passed away and you can't talk to people who are gone from this world. "But I can handle myself. It's not all that hard."

It wasn't too much longer before Tenshi stepped up to the front glass door of a martial arts studio. He unlocked the door and gestured for the shorter to follow him in to the cool Air conditioned building. He walked behind the desk and turned the alarm off before turning a computer on. "Yo can sit back here and play on the computer for a short while. I'll go get you breakfast. "Try not to wander around- The usual crowed will start to show up soon,." He offered and started back outside.

He knew of an I hop that wasn't too terribly far away right next to a checkers. He headed that way and stopped by the police station to check something out. Once he was done he went and fetched about eight BLT's and some fries from checkers as well as a large coke. He Stopped at Ihop and picked up some pancakes, bacon, eggs, and some other sweet things that would more than likely taste much like a doughnut. He then catered the meals back to the Studio. He set each bag down on the desk. He took out one sandwich for himself and looked for Tate. "here you go-eat as much as you like. "
