Steele Daniels, twenty-two was on a mission for Saint Isalia his hometown, in his world, where the darkness was hazardous and held monsters that could kill, the towers that illuminated the edge of town. He was a hunter scavenger, one of the few allowed out of the town to search for food and supplies in the wilderness. He was on a path for the river that ran two miles away from the town, for a special herb, that was planted by the water by others weeks ago. It flourished in marshy climates with darkened areas, and the doctors needed it for a few sick patients.

Steele was walking out to the river to collect the herbs, and he had to hurry there were sick patients that needed these herbs. As he traveled to the river he couldn't help but feel that he wasn't alone, of course, that was always the case, he always felt like he could feel the creatures that lurked in the shadows, just out of the light's grasp.

Lost in the forest was a seventeen year old girl named Terra Morton. Her home town was Saint Neveres, the terrible place where happiness was condemned and the leader of the darkness and shadows, Kazaruas, ruled with an evil fist. She was in pain, and had a moderate fever as she had been wandering around the forest for the last two days. Her platinum blonde hair was matted with dirt and grime, and her skin darkened by the earth.
She looked around and saw Steele in the distance. She hid, but a tickle came to her throat and she let out a forceful cough. She gasped, shy, and hid behind the trees, hoping he wouldn't come or look this way.

As Steele started to pick the herbs he placed them into his backpack. When that was done he started to plant new ones in their place, knowing that they may need them again. At least now, they could get ahead of a future crisis if they have extra at the hospital. When Steele turned to go back home, he heard a cough, a loud cough and gripped the edge of his sword resting on his back, his jet black hair rustled gently in the wild, almost as though the cough made the wild move. Very rarely did he have to fight, unless it was to hunt for big game, but when he did he was skilled enough to defend himself.

"Come out, whatever, and whoever you are!" He called out as he started towards the source of the noise behind the trees.

Terra gasped, her eyes wide in terror as she peeked around the tree, seeing him come in her direction with the sword, "D-Don't hurt me!!" she cried, coming out of her hiding spot. She coughed a bit more, her face pale and covered in sweat, "I-I'm unarmed." she managed to choke out. All she seemed to be equipped with was a silver plated pocket watch, that was clipped on her belt and was tucked neatly in her pocket. Her clothes were dirty and had a few tears and holes. She stared at him, almost a sense of helplessness in her eyes.

Steele looked around for just a brief moment before putting away his sword, when he saw it was a girl. He was surprised by the sight of another human being, no one should have been out there with him from the village, certainly not with permission. "You poor girl, you look like you've been out here for days." His eyes softened at the sight of her as she came closer to him, while he approached her. "I'm going to take you to the hospital, okay? We'll get you back and you can tell me where your parents live so the doctors can let them know you are safe... They must be worried about you." He spoke softly but reassuringly as he got right up to her and gently put his arm around her body and under her arms so he could support her. "Can you walk, or do you need me to carry you?" Steele questioned thinking he might have to carry her given her sickly state.

Terra's expression turned a bit sorrowful, "...Where's this hospital? I don't have parents, my mother was a doctor and was shot for not obeying laws. I'm from Saint Neveres. I took over, running the hospital taking the risk and treating people even though it was against the law, and my father just disappeared one day when I was little." she felt weak, knowing very well that she couldn't go on for much longer on her feet, so she just gave a nod, hoping this wasn't just a trick, she had seen a lot of things already in this forest, and avoided being eaten alive by the shadows, and knew exactly what they were capable of. Thunder rolled in the distance, and a chill ran up Terra's spine. She had never heard that. Saint Neveres was a controlled environment, with no outside forces. "W-We're in danger..." she whispered.

Steele listened to her story with surprise and shock, he had heard rumors of Saint Neveres but never thought it was real. Just a story they told children to scare them and keep them in line. "Saint Neveres... that's a real place, you are near Saint Isalia young one... perhaps your fever is messing with your head, you are rather feverish..." He told her and lifted her up into his arms so he could carry her. "I'm sorry about your parents young one... but this hospital is in Saint Isalia... you'll be safe there I promise." He spoke calmly as he carried her back towards home when he heard the thunder. "No... its just thunder... the sky is still a little clear, we have time before the clouds darken the sky... I can get us back before they block out the sun. Tell me, if we need to, do you have the strength to hold onto me tightly? In case I have to run with you?" He questioned as they walked. If she looked out away from Steele she could just make out one of the large towers with a crystal at the top.

Terra listened to Steele as he talked, his voice getting farther and farther away it seemed. "Saint.. Isalia.. Safe.." she whispered. She tried her best to stay alert as he asked the questions and told her about thunder. "Yeah, I can.. I can hold on.." she whispered, putting her arms around him weakly. She felt like she was going to die. Her body felt as hot as the sun, her head throbbed, and her chest hurt immensely. She saw the tower with the crystal at the top, and she pointed weakly in its direction, "Is.. that where..?"

"Yes... that's Saint Isalia." Steele told her softly as he looked down at her. "Hold okay, you're going to be fine, just stay with me... what's your name..." He asked her trying to keep her awake. Feeling her weak embrace he started to pick up his speed and tried to run with her in his arms, it would have been easier if she was on his back and the weight was balanced, but there was no way she would be able to hold on in her condition for that. The tower came on shined brightly in the distance as a beacon, other towers they couldn't see came on as well at the same time, as the town was illuminated for the coming storm's darkness.

"My name is.. my name is Terra Morton.." she whispered, drifting off, the thunder becoming quieter and quieter. The world felt like it was spinning, and her grip became almost limp. She tried to keep her eyes open in an attempt to stay awake and alert, but her efforts were for naught until a big crackle of thunder jolted her back into conscious state. She hoped they were there, she didn't know how much longer she could last.
