Oh, great. It was report card day. Fourteen year old Ben Braeden would do as he always did on days like this; crumple up his report card and tell his mother Lisa he got all 'A's and 'B's.

This time around it would be a lot harder for Lisa to believe such a blatant lie, as Ben had been so attached to his DS and hadn't been bringing his books home to study nor do his homework. 'I do it at school', 'there's nothing to bring home', he'd tell her, 'don't worry, mom, it's fine.'

This time the boy's mother was prepared. Working late tonight, Lisa left a note for one Dean Winchester, the man she was engaged to, informing him of today being the day that Ben receives his report card. It was impossible to pull the wool over Dean's eyes and Ben wouldn't be expecting this.

Crumpling up his report card and sticking it in the very bottom of his backpack, Ben made the short walk back to the house he shared with his mother, father and uncle to be. Drawing his keys out of his pocket as he climbed up the steps to the front door, Ben found the door unlocked. It was strange, as he was used to being alone for at least a couple of hours after school was out.

Ben entered the house, closing the door behind him and kicking off his shoes, "...Dean?" he called out, "Uh, Sam?" one of them had to reply. Sam was currently out hunting, though it wasn't the kind of hunt they were usually on. Sam was on the hunt for a normal job, wanting to help his big brother's family that he'd always wanted.

"In here, Ben!" Dean called out from the garage. When Ben entered, he saw Dean sliding out from under the Impala on a scooter with a wrench in his grease-covered hand. "Hey, Buddy," he said grabbing the rag that he had hung over his belt to wipe his hands on and cleaning off most of the black gunk that comes from working on cars. "How was school today?" He was playing dumb to give Ben the opportunity to be honest on his own, but he had a feeling that he wouldn't. Dean had read Lisa's letter thoroughly and had every intention of ensuring that Ben started making better grades and never lied to him or Lisa again, even if it meant Ben might not like him too much for a little while.

As Dean called to him from the garage, Ben set his backpack off to the side before crossing the kitchen toward the door that led into the garage. Having kicked off his shoes at the door, Ben didn't venture too far into the garage, as his mother had warned him about the small things he could get hurt on.

The two shared a love of classic cars and the '67 Impala had grown to be one of Ben's top favorite cars over the years. Usually Ben would feel better just looking at the car Dean affectionately referred to as "Baby", but there was too much on his mind for that to happen.

Smiling softly and looking down from his spot at the top of the steps as Dean slid out from under the Impala, Ben nodded, "Hey, Dean. What're you up to?" he inquired. Ben avoided asking Dean what he was doing home so early, as that would come off as suspicious and even come off as rude.

Ben actually tensed up a bit when asked about school, but he steeled himself and kept that smile; it was fake and Dean could always see right through it, but Ben did it anyway. "Oh, y'know, the usual. Think I might have a girlfriend, she's real pretty and always comes around at lunch." that much was the truth, but the look on his face, no matter how hard he tried to hide it, showed that something was wrong.
