Any chance of adding a timestamp to the shout box?

if your worred about "realstate space" on lower resulation you could code them to be the title="" attribute so that they will show up as Tooltips for the name links.

(while IE uses both Title and Alt for this, only Title is ment to do it, and Firefox and other standard complainet browers only show title like this)

done, took me a little while to find the code, however once l worked it out it was pretty easy one thing l have been contemplating tho is changing the style of the shoutbox from having the text entry at the bottom rather than the top.. of course the text will be read IM style with text going up but somehow it feels like it would work.. l dunno will have to run it by Ai and flairblack first and see what they think.

The timestamps are useful but could they be optional? Is it possible to add a button to shout box (or a user setting) to turn on or off the timestamps?

As for the input line I don't mind where it is but it should be next to the newest shout. That if it is at the top then the latest should should be below it, but if it is at the top the then the newest shout should be above it (typewrite style).

was thinking the same about timestamps however it will be hard to make it optional sadly unless the code dictates otherwise in the UCP area of the site... will definitely look into it tho, as for type writer style that could also be a pain, we can make it so messages go up or down but it maybe a pain.. but with timestamps as they are and the fact the shoutbox uses Ajax means it can be technically used as a chat room as well since it usually updates immediately, the time stamps jst make things easier to tell when and who posted and how long ago if pl wanna talk in the shoutbox.

ok lve done a small edit to the display to see how it works, do ppl think this is better? as said it can easily be edited back

also the change for new shouts at the bottom, means when 1/2 the time when you scrool down the page, you don mess up your shout scroll 8)

Bad news I'm afraid, timestamps will need to be removed. Due to the flatfile nature of this shoutbox (the shouts are cached in a single html file so database load is reduced when viewing the main page)
the timestamps will not be accurate for more than one timezone therefore there is little point in having them. If you want to see timestamps you can easily click "Shoutbox" (at the top of the box) to take you to the shoutbox archive which does include proper timestamps as all the information is copied from the database.

Personally I don't see how timestamps are useful either - its just a message box...
