General Chat Chat about anything you like! |
Want to get rid of the annoying adverts? The answer is simple. There are 4 levels of advertising on AnimeOTK:
Level 1: (Your Level, guests and members with 0-9 posts) has maximum advertising.
Level 2: (A user with 10 or more posts who has been a member over two weeks) have vastly reduced advertising (including removal of the large full screen closable adverts)
Level 3: (A member who has been registered over a month and has over 50 posts, or has a special account like "artist" or "writer" sees minimal advertising.
Level 4: (VIP Donators) receive no advertising.
All donators of $10 or more will never see an advert on our site again!

Heads Up
I recieved an email over the weekend that I just saw today. The team who run AnimeOTK sent it. It involves someone who tried to use my account (w/out my knowledge) to log on.
Apparently this blackguard attempted to access my account by using the wrong password more than 5 times. This happened on Dec 28. The AnimeOTK team said they locked out my account briefly when the multiple hack/log-ins kept happening.
This thread is to warn all users about what nearly happened to me. The team reminded me about not letting anyone know my password, it's good advice. The team saved my account and I am profoundly grateful.
Be careful, here be dragons.
P.S. I was tempted to post the IP address of the culprit that the team found. But that is probably not a good idea. If any moderators see this thread, please let me know if I have permission to post that or not.
Thanx again !
:-)

So I'm not the only one. Thanx ARTSY and TeenSpanko !
I wonder if this was the same person in each of these attempts ?
...And who else has been targeted...?
If this has happened to anyone else, please come forward and help warn other members !

Same here. Traced the IP address to someone in Beijing, China. Most likely a hacker who happened to target the site randomly to mess with.

I did notice someone was already logged in under my name when I came here a couple days back, but I'm pretty sure that was just a quirk of how I was messing around with my settings in Firefox.
Just to be on the safe side though, I will attempt to use the Dictionary.com Word of the Day in each of my posts from now on so that any malevolent doppelgangers can be quickly identified and purged. My own cleverness leaves me positively ebullient! :P

Yeah, it's happened to an awful lot of people - including me - it's not something that I'm worried about.
All in all, it was probably a computerised attempt, so long as your password isn't your username of 12345 I don't think anyone here stands any real chance of being hacked.
The IP address was banned as a routine precaution.

The user linked to that IP address was also banned If it was a hacking attempt it was rather pitiful since the user obviously didn't have a clue how to hack
