Default IC House Rules

Islandra Rose has proposed the following rules and regulations to the other adult members of the staff for review. The list is an incomplete rough draft, all comments and criticisms to this proposal will be noted and used one week from now in a revised copy of the rules, which if accepted by the powers that be, will then be codified, dispensed to the residents of the house, and implemented immediately. Currently the list is in no particular order, and numbered only for ease of discussion.

#1
Respectful and appropriate language will be used at all times. This does not mean zero tolerance on cussing, rather it means that the use of any language for derogatory or malicious intent is strictly forbidden. Expressive gestures are also subject to this rule.

#2
No physical violence. If there is an issue between the residents that cannot be resolved by the offending parties alone, they are expected to seek an adult or responsible teenager to act as mediator.

#3
Younger residents of the house must obey older residents of the house. Likewise, older residents are expected to assist the younger residents and act as a good role model.

#4
Weapons are strictly forbidden. Toys, practice, and faux weapons may be kept and used only with permission. Dangerous objects such as tools may be kept and used with permission, but requires supervision from an adult or responsible teenager. This rule also applies to appliances such as the oven and snowcone maker.

#5
All pets must be approved prior to their introduction into the house. The pet owner must accept full responsibility for the pet. This includes training, feeding, washing, cleaning up after, and seeing to special needs of the pet.

#6
Children under five must bathe once a week, or as needed. Children under ten must bathe twice a week, or as needed. All other residents of the house must bathe or shower daily, and are expected to maintain proper hygiene.

#7
Children are expected to wear play clothes outdoors. School uniforms and good clothing should not be worn unless leaving the House grounds, or remaining indoors.

#8
Residents of age may obtain a driver's license and are permitted one parking space on House property. Residents without their own vehicle may take the House car only if permission has been granted in advance. Any tickets or traffic violations may result in the immediate suspension or removal of driving privileges.

#9
Bedrooms and personal areas are expected to be kept tidy and free of offensive material. Bedrooms will be checked once a week to ensure compliance, and items which break any of the rules may be confiscated.

#10
There must be at least one adult or responsible teenager in the House who knows your whereabouts at all times. Residents are responsible for always having their cell phones fully charged and turned on whenever appropriate. A cell phone ringing inside a movie theater is grounds for an immediate spanking, whether or not the offender is a resident of the House.

#11
Prior to eight o'clock in the evening, all television and movies shown downstairs must be rated PG or lower. After eight o'clock PG-13 will also be allowed.

#12
Public displays of affection must also be kept at a PG-13 level.

#13
Noise, music, and all forms of producing sound must be kept at a reasonable volume.

#14
The presence of an adult or properly certified responsible teenager is required for pool use.

#15
All residents of the house are expected to display common sense and act in a mature reasonable fashion. Just because something is not specifically mentioned in the House rules, does not mean the residents are allowed to do so.

Rule #4 is ovverriden by Sensei who has always allowed blades so lond as you're not a dumbass about it. They were only confiscated whrn Elias refused to stop practicng with his katana in the back yard.

As for Rule #8, only adults of the house my have lisences and vehicles. This is a pre-established rule.

Rule #9 Jack would fight tooth-and-nail, to the point of attemtping to inflict physical violence upon whoever tried to check her room, and she has absolutely NOTHING to hide. Her room is her private place, her sanctuary from the outside world, and not allow that sanctity to be violated.

Teen rooms are private, and have never been checked... Make it children's? Hence the lock on the teen doors, and not kids.. It's just how the RP's been since the start... For Teens/Kids I mean. Private and Non. (Aka I'm going against this rules because it invades too much into privacy for the teens)

And Jack, I didn't refuse to stop practicing, I refused to give him my 700$ Katana to hide... There be a difference

I want these rules to be discussed, so I don't mean to rebut anyone, but I'm going to... Please take note of the introduction paragraph. These rules are being proposed by Islandra in an off-screen RP (though feel free to discuss them with her in character if you're an adult who would have access to them.) So arguments of "it's always been this way" are moot, because this isn't retconning in pre-existing rules, it's proposing a new set of rules.

The rules are to be decided on by adults, for everyone else. So arguments such as "my child character would hate this" are also moot. Try to view them first in the terms of what your adult character would think of the rules, and then what you as a player honestly think of the rules. And don't forget you can be suggesting more rules instead of just critiquing the ones already up.

I am surprised that #9 is being debated... In real world, kids in a group home would NEVER get that kind of privacy... But I guess in this fantasy anime home where every other kid is a millionaire and the rest are superhuman martial arts masters, it makes more sense that the adults around would trust them not to be concealing illegal substances or homemade shivs.

Okay, that was a little bitter. But come on, if your character doesn't like it, it's just another reason for them to get spanked, right?

Not always just about the spanking, and I failed to notice the first thing from lack of brain function.

I just brought it up because Sensei's already allowed all the teens to do what they wish in their rooms, as long as it's not harmful etc, etc... And Since we didn't have a set out list of rules, I figured you were throwing a list out there.

Just cause I know for a fact that 80% Or so of the teens that are mainly on, have some sort of sex related item in their room due to the prior ruling.. And I thought it would be a total contradiction xD

If I didn't have privacy then, I woulda killed peoples.

I think for the most part this is an excellent list. I do believe #9 should be modified somewhat. Checking the children's rooms would be appropriate, however as for the teens. I'm not so sure. I don't think ANYONE would be comfortable if a 'room check' was made only to walk in on someone having sex. Not that that is the only thing that goes on in those rooms, but maybe instead of random invasions if there was reasonable suspicion that the room NEEDED to be checked, and it belonged to a teen, then the adult in charge of the matter could speak with that teen and take them along for the room check.

For example, say there was reason to suspect that one of the teens is taking drugs. The adult could approach that teen and talk to them about that suspicion and inform the teen they could produce the items or join the adult for a room check. At which point the teen could go and get said items themselves or go along with the check in which case the item will be found or not found depending on the situation.

This way you COULD set up a scenario for spanking, but room checks on teenagers are limited to REASONABLE suspicion of items such as drugs, alcohol, weapons, cigarettes, home made explosives, etc. Anything that is actually dangerous/harmful to the body.

And NOW that I have thrown in my two cents I would like to propose an addition to this list!

Specifically for the younger children but may also apply to the teens in areas where they have difficulty. I think there should be a rule for homework checks. Once a week perhaps just to see how they are doing in any subject, or if there have been any notes that are required to be seen/signed by an adult. In the case of the teens this would apply to any subject they may be struggling with and could be tempted to ignore or procrastinate on due to disliking the subject or being frustrated with it.

So those are my thoughts ^^ Disregard or Consider as you will.

Sorry for the mistake, Elias. My memory on the event is hazy at best, as it happened more that thirty-six hours ago. I stand corrected.

I agree on the room check thing. For the teens, reasonable suspicion should be required for a room check.

I've had privacy and a lock on my door since we moved to this house when I was two. Hell, my parents even knocked before entering! Though Mouse's point still stands that this was a private home, not a foster home! I just think that personal pricavy should be respected for all the people int he house, not just the teens.

I like all the rules, with the exception of the perpetually disliked #9. I agree with Shaxel/Lea, room checks could be instituted if there is reasonable suspicion, but not at random or scheduled.

Room checks would be needed for the pup, in the form of mangled-shoe checks ^^

The bathing one is good, especially for the Nekos and Kichi. >.
