Steve sighed as Tony flitted about the house, trying to make sure all the paperwork was in hand. And to think, he was supposed to be the one with a mother-hen complex.
"Steve! I can't find-"
"It's right here Tony...calm down. It'll be fine." He said, hugging the smaller brunette close to his chest.
"I'm just so excited-"
"I know." Steve smiled. "We still have to go choose one." Tony grinned and took his hand, dragging him to the limo. The two were soon on the way to the orphanage, unsure of who their new family member would be. Steve wanted a little boy to play football with. Tony just wanted someone smart to explode parts of New York with. They hoped they finally found the missing part to their family.

Little Peter Parker was in the outside area of the orphanage tinkering with a gadget of his. Inspired by spiders and superheroes, he was trying to create a web-shooter made of a substance that he created himself so he could defend the kids of the orphanage from the bullies and he would call himself...the Amazing Spider!! No that didn't sound right...The Human Spider!! No that was stupid too....hmmmm Spider-man! Yeah that was perfect!!
"This is going to be great!" Peter grinned, ready to test it out. "But who to test it on...?" he muttered thoughtfully before seeing to men enter with the caretaker. "Perfect"

Steve and Tony glanced around, trying to sense their new little child. Whenever Steve wanted to choose a child, Tony would disagree. After a good hour, it seemed pretty hopeless. Tony was becoming irritated with endless failures and Steve was close to giving up himself. Maybe their child wasn't here.
"Tony, maybe-"
"No! He's here! I know it."
Steve sighed and kept going, until they passed a small boy holding some kind of gadget.

Peter stalked after the two men for a while, still not noticing that they were Captain America and Iron Man. He wanted to make sure they were by themselves so he wouldn't get in trouble by the caretaker and finally opportunity revealed himself. Grinning widely, he walked into there line of sight and blasted them with the gadget, laughing at the their shocked faces.
"Ha! It worked!" he yelled happily before running away.

Steve yelled out when a sticky substance his his body and Tony cursed loudly. "What is this? It's some kind of...weblike substance." He said, now intrigued. "I've never seen this before!" Steve pulled free and gave chase to the small boy, quickly catching him and throwing him over his shoulder. "Got you, you naughty little-" Tony came over and touched Peter's face.
"Steve, I think he's the one."
"What?"
"Look at him!" Steve did so and melted at the pouty little face in his arms.
"Well, nice to meet you Buddy. What's your name?"

Peter yelped and struggled when he was caught by the larger of the two men so quickly.
"I'm not naughty! I'm ingenious!" he said, pouting before blinking curiously as the smaller of the two touched his face. "The one? The one for what? And my name is Peter! Peter Parker!"

Tony and Steve looked at each other, nodding. "Well, we came here looking for a child to take home..." Steve began.
"And we want you." Tony finished, looking at Peter with hopeful eyes. "Think you could teach me how to make that web substance of yours?"
"I'm Steve Rogers-Stark and this is Tony Rogers-Stark." Steve introduced themselves, wondering if the child knew their alter-egos. Soon enough, a teenager approached and shouted, "It's Captain America and Iron Man!"
The duo sighed and smiled down at Peter.

Peter looked on with wide eyes as the two men said they wanted him, he couldn't believe it! Him! Peter Parker to be adopted! Screw Spider-man for the moment, this was way better!!
"R-Really me?" he asked in disbelief. His eyes widened even more when the teen yelled out exactly who the two men were.
"You are Iron Man and Captain America!?" he yelled in awe, just a little be intimidated.

"Yes we are." Steve nodded. Tony smiled at Peter, eyes warm.
"And yes, really you." Tony added, taking Peter from Steve and hugging him. Steve wrapped both in a hug, happy to have found their missing piece. "You'll live with us in Stark Tower."
"Shall we go do the paperwork?" Asked Tony, looking down at Peter happily. Steve grinned and beckoned the caretaker to them. "We're going to adopt Peter."

Peter was so happy so so happy! He snuggled into both men's arms feeling an emotion that he hadn't felt in so long...love. It made his eyes well up with tears and before long he was bawling.

The caretaker, Kris, came over with a smile as she heard they were going to adopt Peter.
"How wonderful!" she said clapping her hands. "I'll get the paperwork right away! Aw, what's wrong with Peter?"
