New School Year (for Bombay)

When Ellie Turner was informed that she would be helping the new students, she was more than a little excited. Becoming one of the students tasked with helping the “new kids” was considered to be a time-honoured tradition among the student body of the Minerva Academy for Gifted Young Women.

Ellie had been lucky, joining the school on a sports scholarship otherwise she would not have been able to attend. She spent the next two years at the school working her way to becoming one of the best runners in the country at just 19-years-old, and much of this was due in part thanks to the school and also her previous mentor, an older student who helped her through it all. Now it was her turn to help someone.

With each semester, you never knew what type of kid would show up. They were all brilliant in their own way. Some were natural athletes, while others were creative savants. Soon a bus pulled up through the gate of the campus, and Ellie braced herself to meet her mentee.

Rebecca Dorn really didn’t have a choice in the matter here. It was either go to this school, or go to some rundown community college and get a degree she’d never use! Sometimes she regrets entering that writing contest and winning a scholarship to attend. The work’s going to be so much harder than community college, but hey, she might learn a thing or two. Plus, she finally gets to move out. Might be somewhat good.

Hopping off the bus with a normal suitcase with stickers of places around the world, her rundown backpack, and her skateboard, Rebecca finally arrived. Black skinny jeans hug her smaller frame, and a black shirt with a satanic pentagram with a ram’s skull above can be seen. Died sea-blue hair which has been shaved on the sides follows her as she approaches Ellie. “Sup, you gonna show me around, or what?”

To say that Ellie was slightly taken aback would be understating it, the picture in the file was accurate given the fact she still had her sea-blue hair, but the very rough and straightforward attitude did catch her by surprise.

“Not yet, we still have an orientation assembly we need to attend,” Ellie replied after composing herself.

According to the file Ellie got, Rebecca had received a scholarship after winning a writing contest that the school held in hope of finding more gifted students. Out of about 100 entries, Rebecca’s was the best.

"Are you kidding me? I have to go to some bs assembly just to be taught about 'school pride' and watch some idiotic, brainwashing, propaganda about how this school is the best? Come on girl, cut the crap and just show me my room so I can crash" the jaded girl said glaring up at her mentor.

This opinionated girl clearly had some biases about being told to do something she really didn't want to do, and one could tell it's just not the grouchiness from the bus ride saying that. "And you really expect me to carry my bags all day? Great first impression lady, you're killing it today." she scoffed

As annoyed as Ellie was becoming with the girl, she still had to try and remain as positive as she could. She wanted the new kid to like her, given the fact that she would be seeing a lot of each other during Rebecca's first year at the school.

"Actually, I would not worry about your bags," as soon as Ellie said that, a group of staff members began collecting the bag of the other girls.

"Just had the bag over to them. They will deliver them to your room." Rebecca said.

"As for the both of us, we need to head down to the assembly hall."

Squinting her eyes, Rebecca hesitantly gave her bags over to the staff members but kept her board. When they finally ran off, she squinted up at Ellie "Mmmmmmmmm...I don't like this, just for the record. Everything seems too perfect, I mean, where else do you have your teachers just take your stuff you know?"

Placing the board on the ground, she began skating circles around Ellie. Sizing her up, Rebecca continued "And then there's you, my so called 'mentor'. Why do we need to go there? I made it very clear I wanted nothing to do with school pride. Why can't you just respect my decisions and let it go?"

In that moment, Ellie wasn't sure if she should start laughing or sighing really loudly. Her mentee was circling around her like a terrible impression of a shark and trying to convince her to let the girl skip the orientation.

"The orientation is mostly about school life kid, and you're going to be attending no matter what." Ellie replied with a slightly annoyed tone to her voice.

"Oh come on!" Rebecca said, finally stopping in front of her new mentor. "I already know so much about school life, it's ridiculous! Go to class, eat healthy, make sure you get enough sleep, do your homework, blah blah blah. I'm a freaking pro at it! Why do I have to sit down and be lectured on it? That's not what school's about"

"Because I expected all my new students to attend," a voice spoke from behind Rebecca.

In all that was happening around her, Ellie didn't see that Miss Claudia approach them both. Miss Claudia is part of the prestigious Minerva family, who ran the school since it first open back in the 1920's. She had a reputation for being a very strict Dean, but one with a soft spot for her students.

She was dressed in her usual outfit; a white shirt and black pencil skirt. She is also a very tall woman and easily towered over both Ellie and Rebecca.

"Now come on, you are going to be late if you just stand here," she continued with a soft smile on her face.

“Uhm, excuse me, but we’re having a private fucking conversati-ohohohohohhahahahahaha, you…heeeeeeeeeeeeeeey you….Miss. Claudia, hehe” well, that changed her tune. She had a small conversation over skype with the head master before attending, and even if she’s pissed about having to attend this stupid orientation, she knows better than to get on her bad side on the first day of school.

“Well, of course! I was just telling my good friend and buddy…errrrrr” leaning over to Ellie, she whispered “What’s your name again?” when she finally got it, she went right back to addressing Miss. Claudia “Ellie that we have to go there now, or we’d be late! She’s such a chatter box you know? Welp, this was fun, but we have to get going, see you, bye!” she said with an innocent smile really hoping Miss. Claudia doesn’t want to give her a private lesson.
