The Vampire's Fox (Clever)
In a small town, overlooked by an imposing manor, pierced by a trade route, we begin our tale...
Taros was a strange land, at least by the usual standards. Dotted with villages, and very few major cities. There was no king, only nobles leading their lands. In the village of Varent, it was no different.
Walking down the road of the market, a man dressed in opulent attire seemed to have a purpose already in mind. Pale skinned, with vibrant, almost firey red hair, the man scanned the shops. His soft, red eyes were looking for a particular section...
Davris was the town's noble. His manor was passed down among generations... Though it had been in his possession for a few centuries. The man was a vampire, and he was in need of companionship. Hence why he was entering the pet stalls. He'd heard talk of kemonomimi, as they were referred, being brought through and sold. He wanted one for himself.

The sounds and scents of the marketplace were nearly overwhelming to the pale skinned youth that was sitting on a small chair in one corner of a particular kind of stall. A pair of brown fox ears poked from unruly brown hair while he was using a bushy tail of the same hue to cover himself clad only in a pair of loose fitting pants. Piercing and intelligent blue eyes shifted around as he took in the sights of the people that were moving to and fro, no one was really paying much attention to the slightly built eighteen year old.
He wasn't overly bothered by that despite the fact that he would have liked nothing more than to leave this noisy place.
"Oi, get up you," the man that was in charge said, walking over and grasping the leash that was attached to a collar that the boy wore around his neck. "How am I supposed to show off the goods if you just sit around?" As he said that he gave the leash a tug, forcing the boy to get to his feet so that he could be paraded around and hopefully entice someone to buy him.

The noble heard the words, and directed himself towards them. He walked over to the stall, and looked inside. Immediately, Davris's red eyes locked with the fox's baby blues.
"Shopkeeper. This fox you have here. Where is he from? Is he healthy?" he asked simply, though his voice radiated his commanding nature.

The shopkeeper looked over at the man, taking note of his clothes, and they practically screamed out money which he of course liked the looks of. "He's from a small village out in the countryside and is extremely healthy, I assure you," the man said, giving the leash another slight tug as he forced the boy to walk a little bit, showing off his lithe frame.
Blue eyes locked onto the man that had inquired about him, the slight teenager flicking one ear forward slightly as his tail swished around behind him.

"Bring him closer, please." he said simply, as he studied the boy. "He's a handsome lad, for sure. Looks like he could use more meat in his diet, though..." he said, more as a note to his own memory than anything.

"Over here boy," the shopkeeper said, leading the foxling over for closer inspection. "I can assure you that he is simply built small m'lord," the man said as he stopped a short distance from the man with the rope still held in his hand.
The fox looked at the man and his ears pricked at the mention of more meat but he didn't say anything in response to that and he tried his best not to look too hopeful.

Davris nodded softly, more to himself than anything, keeping an eye on the lad.
"Boy." he finally spoke up, looking into his eyes. "How would you like to live in a manor, hmm? Be the pet and companion of a noble?" he asked, studying his reaction. He wanted to see if the idea was of interest to the fox. A willing pet was the easiest to train. And the easiest to get affection from. A pet that enjoyed his company, and wished to stay near him was what he wanted.

Both brown ears perked up and blue eyes turned toward the man as he spoke up and the foxling's tail actually started to wag slightly before he reined in that reaction. Looking sort of hopeful the boy said in a soft edged voice, "You would actually want me?" He wasn't sure what it was that the man saw in him but he did like the sounds of living somewhere that was nice. "I...I would like that sir..." he said quietly, looking the man in the eyes.

The noble looked back into those blue eyes, before turning his attention to the shopkeeper. "How much for him." he said simply.
He reached into his coat, and drew out his coin purse. "300 gold seem fair?" he asked. Three hundred gold coins was an astronomical amount to most people of the land. But the vampire wanted the fox.

The boy's ears flicked again and he heard the rustling of the gold, his eyes widening slightly when the man asked about the sum. He couldn't believe that the man was going to offer that much, for him. It was enough to leave him speechless.
The shopkeeper also ended up gaping slightly for a moment before he nodded his head, briefly debating trying to haggle for more since the man clearly wanted the boy. His good sense talked him out of that before he tried it however, not wanting to risk the man changing his mind. "That is a fair offer, I accept," he said, holding out his hand for the gold and at the same time offering the makeshift leash that was attached to the foxling's collar.
