Default Knights of Zenith (For Cleverfox)

Uriel looked down upon the Los Angeles skyline from the clouds. It was quite fitting that that his mission would take him to the so-called "City of Angels", seeing as how he was indeed an angel himself. Not only that, but a true warrior of the divine. He was clad in shining golden armor, his long sword at his side, and his long blonde hair blowing in the wind. Looking over to his squire, a young angel named Remiel, he explained the purpose of their mission.

"Remiel, this shall be your fourth sortie since you ended your training in Zenith. You've shown great promise since you began embarking on missions amongst the mortal world, and I must say, you performed admirably against those ice demons in far Russia. Our business here concerns a demon which has taken up residence in the city's old subway networks...the archangels have information which leads them to believe that it is devising narcotics to turn human addicts into it's slaves...possibly, transforming them into demons themselves. We are to find this creature and interrogate it, killing the demon if necessary."

As he spoke, a pair of golden, fiery wings extended from his back.

"We shall descend on the city by wing, keeping our divine invisibility up for as long as it takes to reach the streets, at which point we shall assume mortal shape. Remember, your invisibility will most likely be exhausted for the rest of the day."

Remiel stood beside her mentor with a thoughtful look in her icy blue eyes, the youngster, appearing around the human age of eighteen, taking in the sights while at the same time listening to what Uriel was saying to her. The wind was also causing her flowing white hair to sway slightly in the wind but she didn't pay attention to this and instead just kept her focus on Uriel as he explained to her the reason why the two of them were currently standing above the 'City of Angels'.

An odd name for such a depraved city, she couldn't help thinking to herself.

"I understand but would it not draw less attention if I were to go alone?" she couldn't help but question, having had the desire to test her wings on a solo mission for some time now. Perhaps she wasn't ready, she had been told as much after all, however that desire was still there and it was burning just as white hot as it had the first time that she had lent voice to that desire.

She summoned her own white wings when Uriel's appeared, Remiel nodding her head to show that she had heard him as he informed her of just how things were going to progress. "I understand," she said, giving her wings an experimental flap before she launched herself down toward the city itself, making sure that she kept up the invisibility so as not to freak out any humans that might happen to be roaming the streets.

Uriel shook his head. As admirable as Remiel's zeal to serve the Angelic cause was, he worried that her pride might turn into defiance, and in turn, insubordination. He would need to keep a close eye on her. The Angelic commander leapt from the cloud and let his shining wings carry him through the sky, as he veered next to Remiel.

"Follow my lead. We will be landing near the so-called 'Angel's Flight' next to the Grand Central Market."

Descending on the shining skyline of Los Angeles, and looping around the U.S Bank Tower, Uriel noticed the hill above Grand Central Market and the defunct tram with the orange sign that incorrectly said 'Ancel's Flight'. Slightly annoyed, he landed at the top of the plaza and immediately cocooned himself in a sphere of energy. It faded to reveal his human form: a young man wearing cargo pants and a blue sweater. He had lost the fiery, radiant glow in his eyes and hair as well as his shining armor, but he looked regal all the same.

Uriel looked around to see if Remi had followed him.

Remiel thought that she was capable of more than she was being allowed to do and she had a thirst to prove herself.

She looked at Uriel when the older angel shook his head and she wasn't really surprised by the response that she gained, she had been expecting that all along. Not saying anything further she leapt from the clouds, her white-blue eyes going to Uriel when he appeared beside her and told her to follow his lead.

Something that it seemed she was constantly doing.

"Yes sir," she said quietly even though she didn't really want to follow his lead, she wanted to prove that she was capable and he wasn't making that easy for her. Remiel said nothing about that and instead just followed him to their destination, landing a short distance from her mentor and then using her powers to assume her human guise.

Dressed in a flowing light blue skirt and a modest white blouse she looked like a typical teen despite that she wasn't showing off her body. Ballet flats covered her feet, giving her a willowy, ethereal appearance despite that she no longer had her angelic light.

Uriel briefly observed Remiel and moved onwards.

"The the demon is believed to reside in the so-called 'Skid Row'. It is not too far from here. Either we find it or a witness who can lead us there."

He descended the staircase alongside the tram to the busy streets below. The populace of Los Angeles had no idea that angels and demons were in their midst, and thus went about their business.

But not all evil took a demonic form. As they walked down the street, a group of young men started moving alongside them. One of them, a muscular, ragged looking goon in his late twenties or early thirties, walked uncomfortably close to Remi.

"Hey, there, sweetness! Are you a ballerina? You have those little shoes. You know, I always liked ballerinas...petite, flexible...and those tights? Forget about it. How about you come back to my place and we could 'dance' together?"

Regardless of her response, the thug held out his arm in front of Remi and caught her. He then blatantly fondled her breasts as he reached back with his other hand to feel up her bottom. He then brought his hand back and slammed his calloused palm against her tender ass, which caused his companions to holler in delight.

This was a huge error on his part; as she was a powerful angel and they were only mere humans. Remi ended up making eye contact with Uriel, who nodded, giving her permission to beat the living daylights out of them.

"I suppose that should be simple enough," Remiel said when Uriel told her what it was that they were going to be doing.

She walked alongside her mentor, taking note of her surroundings considering that she had been taught to always be vigilant. Mainly because one could never be certain just what might be lurking out there, as the next incident served to prove. Her ice-blue eyes shifted toward the man that decided to walk along beside her, far too close as far as she was concerned but she said nothing, not even when he spoke to her.

It wasn't until he touched her that Remiel paid the least bit of attention to the thug.

It was not attention of the positive variety however and after a brief glimpse to her mentor Remiel grabbed the thug by the arm, using strength that a seemingly frail girl should not have possessed, to twist his arm back to the point where it would likely be dislocated at the very least.

"You should develop some manners," she told him in a quiet but at the same time forceful tone of voice as she kicked the back of his kneecap in an attempt to bring him to his knees. Which would no doubt be a humiliating change for the burly man who was probably used to being able to take advantage of those that were weaker than himself.

The bastard was just about to begin licking her neck when he heard the sound of his kneecap breaking and was slammed onto the ground. He let out a pitiable cry of defeat and collapsed in pain.

"What the hell was that?? Crazy bitch...let's get out of here, man!"

The other two thugs swiftly abandoned him and ran in the other direction.

As the head thug whined in pain, Uriel stepped over to him and put glowing hand on his knee, healing him.

"Hey, hey thanks. I woulda been fu-"

Uriel then grabbed him by the skull with both hands. From the thug's eyes, he took on a terrible, fiery glowing form as he delivered his command.

"YOU HAVE SINNED BEFORE YOUR GUARDIANS. SURRENDER YOURSELF TO THE NEAREST GUARD POST AND AWAIT YOUR PUNISHMENT."

The criminal's eyes glowed briefly, before his whole face turned dull and emotionless.

"Yes, sire. I shall obey your orders, for you are the will of Zenith."

He then got up and began walking in the direction of the nearest police facility.

Uriel arose from his kneeling stance and turned towards Remiel.

"What a pathetic distraction. Are you alright?"

Remiel probably would have taken it farther and she was actually about to use her powers to force the fleeing thugs to return so that she could give them a taste of what their friend had experienced. However before she could make good on that thought Uriel took control of the situation and healed the man who's knee that she had just broken, that actually getting an annoyed look from Remiel.

As far as she was concerned he should have been left to suffer for longer than a few brief moments.

There was no way to know how many human women he had tried this with, women that were no doubt far less able to fight back than was Remiel herself. She didn't say any of that however and instead just watched what her mentor was doing as Uriel used his powers to command the thug to go and turn himself in.

Still she said nothing.

It wasn't until Uriel rose to his feet again and then posed his question to her that she seemed to regain her voice. "That was unnecessary Uriel, I could have taken care of the situation on my own," Remiel said rather than actually answering his question. Of course it would have been a disgrace were she actually harmed by that human so as far as the young angel was concerned it didn't really require an answer from her.

The answer should be obvious.

Uriel looked back at Remi sternly. He did not look pleased at what she had said. The older angel slowly approached her until he was very close in proximity, his body towering over hers. From where he looked down she resembled a caricature.

"It is not your place to decide who lives and who dies" Uriel said coldly. "Your task is to follow my lead, and comply with my orders. If you have any difficulty understanding this, I would be more then happy to punish you until you come to your senses. Do you understand, girl?"

The angelic commander retained eye contact with her until she replied.

Remiel took note of the stern look that she was being given by the elder angel and she met Uriel's unhappy gaze as he walked toward her, having to look up in order to be able to meet his gaze. "I do not recall saying anything about anyone dying," she told him in a rather blunt voice in response to what he said to her, the cold tone of course getting her attention but she was a stubborn thing by nature and it was hard for her to back down.

"Understanding and doing are two completely different things," Remiel told him when the older angel spoke ot her and then asked if she understood. The mention of punishment got her attention but at the same time she didn't think that she had done anything that merited that sort of threat.

And the look in her blue eyes was slightly defiant since in her mind she could do this mission even without Uriel so she didn't think that she needed him to treat her like a mere fledgling.
