Unorthodox Therapy {for Abbadon}

This was something that Caoimhe never would have seen herself doing in a million years. And yet here she stood, outside the polished wooden door of an office, her hand raised and poised to knock though there was a slight tremor to it as she took a deep breath and tried to calm the hammering of her heart. She had only spoken to the man that she knew was on the other side of the door via emails, this would be the first time that she was actually meeting him face to face, and that was certainly enough to make her more than a little bit nervous.

All the same Caoimhe couldn't deny that her life was spiraling out of control and none of the usual methods of correcting this seemed to be helping.

The young woman was still floundering, risking flunking out of college when she was more than smart enough to be able to pass with flying colors. At least she could do so if she could focus but there were too many other things that she had on her mind, too many problems that were taking precedence over school.

Which was why she was here.

Forcing herself to get over her case of nerves, or rather to act in spite of them, Caoimhe raised her hand and finally knocked on the door.

Dr. Bradley Nichols had worked hard to earn his PhD in psychology and he knew all of the traditional therapies for people that were struggling and depressed. Somewhere along the lines he had also learned about a few 'alternative' methods that he'd found extremely beneficial to certain patients. After speaking at length with Caoimhe Walker over email correspondence he was of the opinion that she was one such candidate that could benefit from his treatment methods.

To that end he had suggested it to her and not surprising she had been a small bit put off at first but after discussing it at length the young woman had at least agreed to give it a chance.

Which was all that he asked of his patients.

Hearing the knock on his office door Brad looked up and he called out in a crisp and profesional voice, "Enter." The word managed to also have the ring of authority behind it, the man keeping his green eyes focused on the door as he waited, hands clasped in front of him on the desk.

Somehow that single word served to send shivers through Caoimhe's body.

The commanding tone was something that she hadn't been expecting but after taking a deep breath and swallowing around the lump that had formed in her throat the young woman reached down and pulled the door open. Forcing herself not to seem as nervous as she felt she brushed back a strand of her brown hair, the teenager turning her aquamarine eyes toward the man that was sitting behind the desk.

He didn't really look like a doctor in her opinion but then again considering the type of therapy that he had suggested to her Caoimhe wasn't sure why it was that she was surprised. "Good evening Dr. Nichols," she said politely, walking over to the desk and offering her hand, marveling at the fact that her voice actually sounded level.

She had successfully hidden her nerves, or so she was thinking anyway.

Brad was dressed casually in pair of khakis and a polo shirt that matched the hue of his green eyes, his black hair brushed back save for a few strands in front. His emerald eyes focused on Caoimhe when she entered his office, the man watching her as she walked across his office, his practiced eye picking up on that she was nervous. She was doing an admirable job of hiding it but Brad had seen many in this situation and he could pick up on the minute tells that were given off.

Getting to his feet he accepted the hand that was held out to him in greeting. "Hello Caoimhe," he greeted her as he walked around the desk so that he was standing in front of her. "I half expected you to back out of this as so many others have but I am pleased to be proven wrong on this. You have taken the first step toward solving your problems."

The way that the man was dressed just further added to Caoimhe's thought that he didn't look like a doctor but she didn't say anything about that and forced herself to stop staring at him when she realized that was what she was doing. She watched as he rose to his feet and she gripped his hand firmly when he moved to shake with her, her aqua eyes remaining focused on him the entire time.

She instinctively took a step back when he moved to stand in front of her though she kept her gaze on him.

"Honestly I almost didn't show... but I've ran out of options at this point and my life keeps spiraling out of control," Caoimhe told him, really hoping that this man was going to be able to help her. She didn't want to be a disappointment to her family and at this point she was willing to do almost anything to prevent herself from totally failing at life.

Brad listened to the words that were coming out of her mouth, nodding his head slightly at her confession as he saw it. "I am not surprised but I am pleased that you realize that you need help in this," Brad told her, gesturing for her to walk with him over to a couch that was situated off to one side of the room. There was another door in the room as well, one that connected it to a different office, but that was something that he would show her a bit later.

After they had some time to get to know one another at least a little bit.

"Please, have a seat Caoimhe," he told her, making a 'sit down' gesture toward the couch as he said this. Not because he thought she needed to be told where to sit but more because he was just typically a take charge kind of guy. Taking his own advice he sat down on the couch, turning to gaze at her in a contemplative manner after doing so.

"Guess maybe I'm doing something right," Caoimhe said with a nervous little giggle when he said that he was pleased that she'd actually shown up rather than standing him up. That was a weird way to look at it and the teen realized that but tried not to think about that as she kept her gaze focused on the doctor. When he gestured for her to walk over to the couch and then to sit down she hesitated for the briefest of moments before she did as he was asking.

Walking over to the couch Caoimhe brushed back her periwinkle blue skirt and sat down, turning toward the psychologist again when he sat beside her. "So, um, I've never really done anything like this so you're gonna have to walk me through what's going on," she told him, her voice quiet and some of the nervousness actually entered her voice at this point.

She couldn't help it, this was all too real currently and she was nervous. And the point and purpose to hiding it had more or less been forgotten by the girl.

Brad had to fight a smirk as Caoimhe said that he was going to have to walk her through this process, the upfront way that she addressed it almost amusing him. He was nothing if not professional and he fought back that urge, instead offering up a reassuring smile. "It is really quite simple, you have pent up feeligns tht you need to release in order to start the healing process," Brad explained to her. "For that I am going to give you what I call an 'introductory session'. After that we will discuss what areas you need to work on and together we will come up with consequences for short comings."

Pausing after he explained this to her he waited to see what Caoimhe might have to say.

He fully intended on taking her into the special room that he had for his non traditional clients but first he intended to make sure that she was comfortable, both with him and with the choice that she had made.

She was being blunt and to the point right now but that was mainly because of her nerves.

This was pretty much the only way that the teen could ensure that she actually went through with this and didn't end up chickening out the way that she almost had already. Her aqua eyes remained locked on the man as Dr. Nichols told her that they were going to start with an introductory session, that one sticking in her mind since she had a slight idea of what it was that he was intending.

"I understand," she said, nodding her head and taking a deep breath. "I'm ready to start this whenever you are Dr. Nichols...before I have the chance to second guess myself too much." Which she knew that she would do if she were given the chance, that was one of the things about herself that she wanted to change.

Brad didn't really mind blunt, he actually preferred patients that were straight forward with him. Especially when he was dealing with the ones that had decided on an alternative method of therapy. So he listened intently as she spoke to him and said that she was ready to start this whenever he was.

He could work with that.

Seeing as she had passed off control to him as it were the man rose to his feet and once again gestured for Caoimhe to follow him. "Alright Caoimhe, follow me and we will get started," he told her, leading the way over to the door that lead not out into the lobby but rather into another office.

At least it was the same size as his office.

That was where the similarity ended. The room had a couch pushed against the far wall but there was also what appeared to be a bench, with a padded place to kneel and then another padded place at what would be waist level if you were kneeling on the other bench. It was a very odd looking piece of furniture with a practical purpose and it was toward this bench that Brad gestured with one hand. "Alright Caoimhe, kneel right here on this bench and lean forward," he told her, his tone calm.
