Underappriciated games thread
The Legend of Dragoon thread got me started.
My favorite underappriciated game of all time is Psychonauts. The game has everything I love; memorable characters, 30+ hours of gameplay (I like to take my time), and of course, hundreds of things you can spend long nights searching through the levels to find. This game is one you'll want to play again and again, just to walk around and get a closer look at everything.
How about you? What under the radar game do you love?

Two games.
ICO
and it's follow up, by the same company, equally amazing.
Shadow of the Collossus.
I could spend the next two years talking about it, but no point.
There are no better games than these two. They do in about 10 hours what a final fantasy does in 70.
I cried for the first time in almost six years at the end of Ico, I was in tears at it's beauty and sadness and joy and emotion.
It's semi-sequel - different game, in a different universe is not a sequel except that it carries on the legacy.
Truely amazing games, both on the PS2. They arn't that long, it took me two days to complete each and they came out about three years appart.
Both are PS2
Both are the best games I've ever played - and bear in mind, including Halo3 I've played almost every game on every system. I'm a hardcore gamer and these are the best two, unheard of games I've ever played.
Get ICO and go cry at the best game out of Japan, or anywhere else.

All games of the Langrisser series. Hardly anybody knows this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langrisser
A gem of the Strategy RPG genre. Only the first two of five games were released in English under the name of Warsong. That didn't hinder me from buying and playing through them all, with the help of walkthroughs and translation FAQs. Awesome games with great storytelling, with different paths and endings.

@Topic: Shadow of the Collossus is rather good, true.
One of the most underappreciated games, however, would be Grim Grimoire. Aaah, so cute, so funny, too.
I also liked how one character threatened another character by saying "if you don't do this, I'll sleep on the couch next night!" or something like that. Haha ^^

Klonoa. Probably the best series Namco had. Too bad they decided to push it into a franchise too fast and killed it.

Xenosaga, aka How Namco Shamed Square-Enix.
Sub Rebellion. Sure, it wasn't big-budget, the visuals weren't anything special, but DAMN that game is so much fun!

I have ICO and Shadow of the Colossus! ^_^ I love playing them, but I'm not very good with the controls. Despite finding myself dead quite often, I don't find myself throwing controllers in anger because I died. XD I love the mood and music of those games....
But my vote is Magna Carta: The Phantom of Avalanche. Or maybe The War of Genesis III Parts I and II? I bet most people here have never heard of these games, and if they had, perhaps they're thinking Magna Carta: Tears of Blood/Crimson Stigmata? That's not the game I meant. The only other reason people might have heard of these games might be that Hyung-Tae Kim is a rather well-known artist even in Japan, but no one plays the games they just cosplay the characters.
I'm a Softmax fan, so I love their games. I especially like the scifi feel of The War of Genesis III Parts I and II.
I guess I'm not surprised that people don't like them/don't care. After all, according to most people I run into, good games only come from Japan. South Korean games don't stand a chance against that attitude, but that's okay. I'll keep this delightful little treat all to myself... :P
Um, I also throw in Koudelka. I love the Shadow Hearts series, but it's not as neglected as Koudelka. Koudelka was an amazing game, on the short side for an RPG, but considering the entire game was supposed to happen in only one night, that's not bad. :P The music was excellent, the story great...the graphics were amazing. The enemy designs in Koudelka and in the Shadow Hearts games are some of the best monster designs ever concieved.

Go look for the recent fan-translation of Der Langrisser. I cried twin waterfalls, true story. Now if I only had the time to play it... TT____TT
