New Beginnings (For Little Sayuri)

Ricardo sighed, preparing lunch for his daughter, It had been a long custody battle with his wife after he realized she had given birth to a child. A 14 year long one at that. He had been giving a chance at parenting after all these years, seemingly to redeem his mistakes. Ricky rubbed the back of his neck almost nervously, not knowing exactly how all of this would work. Hell, he hadn't met the child for years upon years and now he was getting her in the prime of her youth and the prime years of gray hairs for a certain man.

His slightly short and wavy, dark brown hair curled in at the nape of his neck and just cascaded around his face and eyes in the front. His blue eyes surveyed the pan before him. He didn't know what she was or could possibly be allergic to, so he made pasta. Who could be allergic to spaghetti for crying out loud?! He sighed, crossing his arms. Over his slightly tight, dark blue V-neck T-shirt; the outline of his muscles from years of sports and exercise could be seen.

He wore a pair of slightly faded blue jeans, held around his waist with a thick, black belt. He stood tall, a height of 6'5 as he was yet to put on shoes. He wondered if the girl looked like him, or more like her mother. He ran a hand through his hair, wondering what he had just gotten himself into. He was unsure that he was ready to be a parent, he still had to learn to take care of himself!

Isabelle looked out of the carwindow as the taxi started driving her to the flat where her father was living. Her father. The girl never thought much about him, even if she secretely missed him every now and then, especially when she got into a fight with her mother. She often wondered if he was the kind of father who would hug and soothe her in such a situation, or if he would just tell her that it was her own fault ? Could a person be that cruel? She didn't know.

As her mother told her often, he left her as she slept and without the knowledge that a child was on his way. But was it the right way to keep her like a secret all these years? Isabelle knew that even if he would have known about her earlier he wouldn't be able to make up with her mother, she heard a lot of fights on the phone. But finally, she got what she wanted and was on her way to her father.

As the car stopped, Isabelle wiped her long dark curls out of her green eyes and payed the driver. Showtime. She went to the door and rang the doorbell. While she waited, she started playing with her hair nervously.

Ricky seemed to jump as he heard the doorbell. He cleared his throat, trying not to rush himself on the way from the kitchen to the door. A shake of his head allowed his curls to travel out of his face. He took a moment to lean against the frame, rubbing the stubble on his chin. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea...well, he hadn't exactly much of a choice at this point...

He opened the door, looking at the girl before him. His eyes noticeable widened, although she took on many of his similarities, she did have many of her mothers features. It seemed to take him a long time to speak before he granted the girl a warm smile. He didn't know exactly what was the right thing to say was...So he decided he could just try his best.

"...Isabelle? Hi...How was your trip? ...Come on in." He managed, the hints of an accent caught in his voice and signifying an Italian heritage. He never let the smile leave his face as he allowed the girl entrance, shutting the door behind her gently. This was going to be...very interesting.

Isabelle looked up at the man who looked at her nervously. She stepped inside and looked around for a moment. Her new livingplace was nice, so far.
"Hi...good I guess, the food in the plane was not as disgusting as normally", she said and smiled politely. "Can you...give me a tour around this place?", she asked as she let go off her suitcases.
All this was strange, but she would try her best and give her father a strange.

"Yeah sure, why not!" Ricky said chuckling. "I cleaned up for you a bit, don't white glove test it." He replied. He picked up her bags for her and smiled gently. He led her just forward of the front door, down a hall. "This here will be your room." He said, opening the door and revealing a quite large room. For now, all that was in it was a twin sized bed with drawers underneath. "Closets over there." He pointed. A desk lay in the farther wall of the room and there was also a comfy looking chair. "I wasn't sure what you really liked so I left it near-bare for now so you could do what you wanted." He said, setting her bags down.

"Bathroom is right across the hall, and my room is right down here." He said, leading her back out and pointing her in the other direction. He led her back out of the hall taking her to the right of the front door. "Here's the kitchen, feel free to help yourself whenever you want. I made pasta if you're hungry, you want anything to drink?" He asked gently.

Isabelle smiled gently at her father and looked around interested. "Wow...my room is ... wow...", she just said stunned and looked at him with shining eyes. She had a few ideas what she would do with all the room and wondered if she could ask her father to drive her to the mall tomorrow. Maybe he would like to join her while she was shopping? After all she would go to another school and so she didn't have friends here already to go with them. And shopping alone was really boring in her opinion.

And he was nice so far and so she nodded at his suggestion, deciding that she would ask him after dinner. "Sounds good to me, I love pasta", she smiled friendly and went into the kitchen. After they both started eating, Isabelle asked: "Hey...uhm...", she stopped. Should she call him by his first name? Or Dad? Or maybe even daddy? She wasn't sure. She decided to avoid it for now and just continued: "...can we drive to the mall tomorrow and buy some things for my room?"

Ricky looked from where she sat at the table across from him. Now he could get a better look at that face of hers. He smiled at her gently and looked up when she began to speak. He could feel the hesitation and was glad he wasn't the only one feeling slightly awkward in this situation. "I don't see why not! Do you have an idea of what you'd like?" Thankfully, the man didn't have too crazy of spending habits and actually saved up just in case he ever had to care for the girl.

As he took a bite of the pasta, he was happy to see how polite she was. Maybe it was better that her mother had gotten her some, she seemed to have done a good job...from what he could tell.

Isabelle thought about that question. She didn't want the things to be too expensive, after all she wasn't sure of how much she could spend. She noticed that she had a lot from her father, at least from the outside. But even from the inside as it seemed...he wasn't sure what to do with that whole situation himself, and it kinda helped her to feel a bit more safe. And she noticed that her father was a good cook, the sauce was awesome....She smiled at that thought and wondered if she should tell him about it. Later maybe, if he was as nice as he seemed...

"I don't know...I would like some decoration and maybe an armchair", she answered after a moment.

Ricky nodded at the girl as he ate his pasta. Why not, he had pretty much left the room bare. He smiled gently as he finished the bite. "I think that's just fine, we can go tomorrow." He said with a smile. "I have a pretty flexible schedule so it may also be a good time to show you around town, where the bus for school comes and all of that." He added. He simply threw it out there to view her expression, certainly not wanting to add too much stress onto the alright stressful situation.
