The New Interns (for youngwoon)

Today's the day. Today's the day that begins the new chapter of Axel's life. A great chapter, like the ones that you read and think are pointless, but really set-up for something great later on. And that's what Axel is doing right now. He had applied to Carter's Garages for an internship, which probably doesn't sound like a big deal, but this is Carter's Garages we're talking about. The place most budding mechanics aspire to go to.

And Axel was one of the lucky few that got chosen!

Axel was a pretty well-built man. At 27 years old- he started college later than most- hd stood at around 5'11", and was fairly muscular. His skin was tanned a bit, but for the most part pale. He had thick black hair that was almost always spiked up with hair gel. He also had dull brown eyes, and a bit of stubble growing here and there. Generally, he was a pretty casual guy, and wears T-shirts and jeans most of the time.

So, not wanting to waste anymore time, he grabbed his brand new key, and unlocked the door to his room. Before he started working, he had to unpack, right? Besides, he still had today before the internship officially starts. He got here earlier than he was told so he could have some time to get everything settled, before his roommate arrived. His name was like... Finish? Or was it Dave? Eh, he'll learn it eventually.

First day of college was as exciting as most people made it out to be. Not as daunting as he expected, but something he was looking forward to. He had applied and been accepted to study mechanical engineering at the college as well as being successful in securing an internship at a local popular garage; how could life get any worse for him right now?

The college he had been granted to study at had dorms the students could stay in, and since he was out of town he figured staying in them wouldn't be so bad. Best way to make friends and socialise, go to parties and he'd hoped he had a pretty decent guy as a roommate.

And he was about to find out.

By the time he arrived, the other guy had already came earlier and seemed to started to sort his stuff out. Finn knocked on the door, taking notice of the taller man who was to be his new roommate for next next few years.

"Yo... Alex, was it?" he said, calling to the other man. He remembered his name was on the introductory forms, but he wasn't sure if he got it right. He recalled it having a funny spelling.

Axel was in the middle of putting some books on his shelf when he heard a knock at the door. He turned his head to see another man standing in the open doorway. Must be the guy he's sharing the room with. He seemed shorter than Axel, which made sense considering he was supposed to be younger as well.

Axel quickly finished what he was doing and walked over to meet the man. "Hey, you must be my roommate!" he said, his voice laced in a very subtle German accent. He extended his hand towards Finn. "And by the way, it's Axel. Not Alex." he corrected. "And you are... Wait wait wait, don't tell me!" he exclaimed, trying to remember. "It starts with... an F, right?" he asked.

After scanning his brain for a couple seconds, he simply shook his head. "Nah, sorry, I can't remember. What is it?" he asked, with a sheepish grin. He never was good with names. Especially before he even has a face to connect them to.

"It's Finn," he answered, taking the othe rman's hand in his to greet him. "Man, great start, eh? Already got each other's name's wrong," He made his way into the room and had a look about him. "Seems you got first dibs on where you want things," he laughed, letting his rucksack slip off he shoulder and drop to the floor. "Guess I'll have to squeeze everything else in," he said, giving friendly smirk.

He had never shared a dorm with anyone. It was his first time doing so with going to college. It felt a bit weird, standing in the room with a strange guy he'd be sharing a room for three, maybe three years? That's in they both lasted that long. From what he could tell, Axel was older, and certainly not from the area telling by his accent.

Axel grinned as he firmly shook his roommate's hand. "Nice to meet you, Finn!" he exclaimed, trying to hammer the name into his mind. He pulled his hand away and scratched the back. "Heh heh, yeah... It's fine! We'll get used to each other eventually!" he assured, clapping Finn's back as if they were already friends. And why worldn't they be? They're gonna be sharing a room for a few years, why not start getting along now?

"Oh, yeah. I figured this way you'd be out of my way and I'd be out of your way while we unpack. Because let me tell you, two people trying to set up the same room, at the same time, with different ideas is not a good time." the older guy explained with a chuckle. Axel wasn't trying to be stingy with space or anything, he just wanted to avoid any and all tension on the first day as possible. "I tried to leave you plenty of room though. I can help you unpack if you want." Axel offered, giving a friendly smile.

"Sure, that's be cool!" Finn answered. "My stuff is still downstairs if you wanna come help me lift?"

It only took them about an hour or so to organize Finn's belonging's amoung Axel, the two of them chatting and laughing, get to know each other as they did so. Finn ahd been worried he might have been stuck with some douche of a roommate but Axel was not bad. Settling down, Finn, sat on his bed for a moment, thinking. He had a few things he had to do before the next do, such as finish of going over his internship papers. He took them out of his rcuksack and placed them on the bed next to him, along with other papers for classes he had signed up to.

"I didn't ask what you studying?" he asked the other man as he rummaged through his bag.

After they finished getting Finn's things set up, Axel sighed and flopped down onto his bed with a large sigh. Finn was actually a pretty good guy. His roommate from the year before was a total jerk. Luckily, he was already on his way out so he only had to deal with him for that year. Finn is so much friendlier and seemed like an overall fun guy to hang out with. This year was gonna be great.

Axel groaned as he sat up on his bed, looking at his new friend. "Oh yeah! I forgot to tell you, huh?" he pointed out with a grin. "I'm a mechanics major!" he said.

"Really, no way I'm the same," Finn responded. "That means we'll most likely be in same classes and shizz!" He finished sorting out his bag. "Man, could this year get any better? College with a cool roommie who's doing the same class?"

For the rest of the night the two of them chatted about their interest in mechanics, sharing their studies so far and finding things the other didn;t know and shairing their passion. Finn smiled most of the time, lost in the moment as he felt comfortable with his new friend.

"Yeah, when they first talked about piston slapping, I thought it was a mechanics crude word for masturbation!" he laughed as he took a drink from a glass of water he had.

"Ah, really? Awesome!" Axel shouted, with a smirk. The man had already figured out that Finn was a great guy, but this made it better. As a fellow mechanic, they'd most likely be spending a lot of time hanging out, studying and other cool stuff like that.

Finn was way cooler a roommate than Axel had even hoped. Not to mention hilarious. He couldn't help but snicker at his new friend's... interesting... interpretation of mechanic terms. "You've got a dirty mind I see." he said, still chuckling. "Same here, dude. My professor last year probably HATED me, seeing as how I always laughed whenever she mentioned lubrication." he confessed, taking a swig of his own drink.

"I can just see it when I start working as an intern down at Carter's. Hello sir, do you need me to lube up?" he almost snorted at his own joke, luaghing internally, his body jerking as he chuckled. "Man this years gonna be awesome!"

The day had passed by them without noticing and it was already late in the afternoon. Finn had suggested they go out and grab a bite to eat before they got themselves settled for the night. Both of them would have a busy day with the new classes in the morning.
