Latrodectus Mactans are small shiny black spiders found in the south east USA. They have a bad reputation for delivering a nasty bite that can be fatal. When I was a kid me and my friends use to throw them on each other. We also put them in drinking straws and used them as blow darts. You can identify Latrodectus by the red hourglass on her abdomen or white and yellow spots on her back. Some people in the south call it the black widow because she eats her mate after sex. Their bite has a protein that destroys everything in its path. A deadly toxin that causes necrosis and paralysis. The chances of being bit are slim. Out of every one thousand bites only five will die. Most widows don't inject venom in their bite. You can eat Latrodectus and your stomach acid will destroy their deadly toxin.
Black Widow Soup Bring one liter of water to a boil. Add one onion and one Bell pepper. Add Fennel for a delicious licorice flavor. Add spiders.
