“What is this?” a snide demand accompanied slender finger tapping the colorful page Jonas held with in his grasp. Just bellow the haughty superiority the younger vampire could detect a childlike curiosity. Jon had to remind himself that his bitchy brother was turned before long before the cinema. Daniel had never seen a movie. There was a bit of trepidation for Jonas as Daniel also often tired of things quickly...that and his insanity made taking the pretty creature out practically impossible.

With a sigh and a smile the man from the roaring twenties held the paper up for his Victorian brother to see more clearly, “It’s an ad for a film. A moving picture.” he told with a smirk, “wanna go with me?” Jonas asked knowing it was ultimately up to the tiny lady trapped in a child’s body on whether either man would be leaving the manor this night.

Cinema was a poor man’s form of entertainment. It had started as a curiosity and now was a billion dollar industry. With caution in those hard brown eyes Daniel read over the paper taking in the vivid images. The ad was for an updated version of Romeo and Juliet, a story Daniel was familiar with if a little uninterested in but this looked intriguing. “I believe I would.” the elegant beauty said placing the page down beside his and Mother’s idiot. A movie might be nice? Daniel had been confined to the mansion for a several years because of various reasons. Chief among them was Daniel’s unpredictable insanity. Though Valentine often didn’t care to leave the protection of home tonight something was different.

“Alright, go ask Mother.” Jonas ordered simply figuring she’d more readily give permission for Daniel to go out into the world then Jonas as Daniel knew how to talk to the tiny ancient vampire.

Lucille was practically at the opposite side of the big mansion she owned, in the library she had filled with thousands of books during the centuries, comfortably sat on a velvet armchair, in front of a crystal coffee table.
A silver jug full of red and viscous substance, something easily recognizable for any vampire, was on that same table, along with a few female magazines.

The eternal child, leaned against the back of the armchair, was lazily turning the pages of one of those magazines, with an almost bored expression drawn over her freckled face.
The fingers of her right hand were tight around a stem glass full of the same content of the jug, her breakfast, but she wasn't really paying any attention at it, just sipping from it from time to time, before leafing through the magazine once more.
Her little body was wrapped in a simple black summer dress, making a huge contrast with her pale skin, her red hair and her grey eyes, which were highlighted by some eyeliner.
Even if she was trapped behind her childish appearance, inside she was an old woman and everything in her posture and her way of living was pointing out that fact.

When she heard Daniel's steps along the corridor, and Jonas' presence not so far, she started to suspect that her boys were up to something, so she patiently waited, her attention now drove toward the door even if she was still pretending to read.

A tall figure cloaked in a pair of dark skinny jeans and form hugging crimson sweater but otherwise bright with light blond hair and pale skin appeared in the doorway to the library holding the flyer for the film Jonas had given him. “Mother.” that deep voice that honestly shouldn’t belong to such a fair creature called before the clicking of heels brought Daniel to the tiny vampire’s side. Lowering himself to kneel on the floor beside Lucille’s seated form the pretty son handed over the piece of paper over to his little mother, “Jonas was going to see this film.” he announced with his ever polite speech, “I would like to join him.”

Staying in the door Jonas watched the love of his life converse with the creature of his devotion grinning at Daniel’s body language and vernacular. Bitch never failed to make it clear that Mother is his beginning and end. Jon wasn’t stupid enough to put his two cents in unless Lucille rejected Val’s plainly stated proposal.

Their Mother didn't looked at the door, when she noticed Daniel approaching her, but instead she just turned another page of her magazine, like if she wasn't paying attention to him.
-Yes?- she responded at his call, always without looking at him -What do you want, children?- she then added, knowing that both of them were there to ask something.
She knew her boys, after all...she had chosen them.

A moment later, when her British brat started to talk, finally the ancient vampire raised her head, turning her face toward Daniel, after giving a quick glance at the piece of paper he had held out for her to see.
-Oh, so he's going out, uhm?- she asked rhetorically, when Daniel announced that his brother was going at the cinema, before asking permission to go with him.
But there was something in her voice that should have warn her American rascal about her approval.

In fact, a second after...
-Jonas, come over here.- she ordered, a bit more sternly, her empty hand pointing out at the other side of her armchair, clearly wanting him to kneel like his older brother, so she could talk with them without having to look up.
Once the other had obeyed, she gave him one serious gaze.
-First of all, who gave you permission to go anywhere, tonight?- she inquired, putting down her glass of blood, and looking a bit more closely the ad for the movie -I don't remember you asking me.-

With a sigh Jonas pushed himself away from the door frame when called to knee at Mother’s other side. He had hoped Daniel’s super manner would sway the little lady but clearly she was not being fooled tonight. Getting down on his knees on the hard wood floor Jonas aimed light blue eyes up at the red haired demon he called Mother. “Daniel was supposed to ask your permission on my behalf.” Jonas explained glaring at his brother who now wore a smug look. Good Lucille almighty why did Jonas love this brat? Val was always getting him in trouble. British brat seemed to enjoy seeing Jon squirm.

Resting his head on the seat beside Mother after favoring their idiot with a condemning gaze Daniel listened to the sudo-scolding. Cornsilk hair fanned out over the velvet fabric of the over sized chair and keen brown eyes moved from Mother to Jon. Serves Jonas right for not asking Mother himself. Thinking he could just make Valentine ask for him. A light laugh left the lithe vampire at the thought of Jonas using him like Val was a naive little brother...even if evidence pointed to Val being younger emotionally.

When she had Jonas next to her, her tiny, slender hand moved quickly toward him, delivering him one sharp smack on his scruff, one of her most common and motherly ways of showing disapproval.
-If you want something, you should ask me yourself, not making your brother do the job for you.- she scolded him, before turning her face to Daniel and his pleased smirk -Especially when your brother is a little brat who finds amusing to put you in trouble all the time.- she added, before giving another slap on the scruff to her British son, just like she had just did with Jon.
Oh, she knew them too well to be fooled by any of their tricks.

After this little reprimand, though, Lucille sighed and she stood up from the armchair, passing her finger through her hair to tidy her curls a bit.
-Anyway, i'm sorry but you're not going anywhere, tonight.- she told them -An old friend is in town, but he'll leave tomorrow, so i'm going to spend the night with him.- she explained -And you can't go among such a crowd without me, Dan...you know that.- the short vampire looked at her older son -Maybe next time, alright?-

She then gave a glance at the other man.
-You don't have enough experience to deal with him, if he loses his mind in public, child. It could be too dangerous, so....you both will stay at home.- and with that, the issue was settled for her.

The slap didn’t really surprise Jonas, he knew trying to get around Mother by using Daniel wasn’t always a good plan, but it seemed to shock Val. Pressing that pretty face into the cushioned seat his head was previously resting upon Daniel took a moment to feel Mother’s mild disapproval. There was nothing really to say though. Val understood that he was a danger to his family without Mother present. Face still hidden by hair and velvet Daniel simply waited for Mother to walk away.

Jon gave a groan at Mother’s dismissal of his ability to reign in the beautiful psycho. “I’m twice as strong as Val, Mother.” the shorter man protested raising to follow the little lady, “if he acts up I can take care of it.” he tried wanting Lucille to trust him with Val. Really Jonas thought Mother tended to overact where Val was concerned. How was Daniel supposed to be able to figure out walking among humans if he was never allowed. Of course Jonas only heard illusions to the horrors Daniel visited upon humanity so he didn’t know the extent of the pretty creature’s insanity. “We’ll be fine. It’ll just be an hour or two then I’ll have Dan home.” Jon continued pleading his case.

The little lady stopped a few steps before crossing the doorway, at Jonas protest, and she turned to face him, staring at the man with a now annoyed expression.
-And less than a half of me.- she commented about his strenght, putting him in his place -It's not about that. I don't want you two to put up a show in town, discretion is everything for the ones like us.- she added -If Daniel have one of his panic attacks in a theatre full of people, what could you do to solve the situation, if not drag him away? Someone could follow you, someone could notice you. And i don't want that to happen, understood?-

Only at that point, Lucille seemed to realize that Daniel was still hiding his face into the cushion and looking like a kicked pup, so she rolled her eyes and she gave out a sigh.
-Dan, my dear...go upstairs for a moment and let me talk with Jonas in private.- she told him -I will bring you some treat when i'll be back, i promise.-

Only once that the blonde, slender man had left the room, the older vampire resumed the talk with her other son, now folding her arms over her chest in one of her typical scolding poses.
-The next time that you want to go anywhere with him, you will ask me about it BEFORE proposing it to him, are you listening to me?- she rebuked him, harshly -I hate having to tell him no, but you have no idea of how unmanageable Dan can be. You have never saw one of his real crisis, out of that door, in the world. I had to fight with him in the past, to take him home, Jonas.- she told him -Me, his own Maker. He tried to bite me, to beat me and to run away from me in more than one occasion and, even if many years have passed, i don't want to take risks. So, like i said before, stay at home. End of the talk.-
E moment later, without adding anything else, the ancient creature was gone, like a gust of wind.

When the main door slammed, it was clear that Lucille had left the mansion for the night.

Turning to look at the drama queen still sulking on the floor Jonas quirked a smile when Mother pointed out how she didn’t want them drawing attention to themselves. “That seriously can’t be the reason.” he muttered remembering that it was just Daniel’s presence that had attracted him at first. “He’s a freaking beacon.” Jonas laughed, “take Val out of this house and he attracts a crowd.” the younger Vampire reminded.

When noticed by Mother and told to go upstairs Daniel rose gracefully from his spot on the floor. The pretty man crossed the library in those measured strides that gave him an ethereal aura. As the slighter man passed his brother a slender hand rose and connected with the slightly shorter vampire’s head. “Speak to me informally again and I’ll use my claws.” Daniel threatened. Understanding he had no where near the strength of either his Mother or the moron Jonas Daniel did have ways to hold his own against Jon. Blue eyes flashed with anger at the prissy bitch’s insistence but cooled when Daniel continued walking out of the grand room.

Returning his attention back to Lucille Jonas pointed at the retreating blond, “such a brat.” the smile faded from Jonas’ face when Mother resumed her scolding. It was, indeed, unknown to him the extent of his beautiful brother’s madness. That Daniel actually fought Lucille and is alive today astounded Jon. But Mother’s coddling was a little humorous to the former gangster, but only a little since Mother knew the strange creature better than any one else in the world ever had and ever would. Daniel was truly her child in all respects. Nodding when asked if he was listening Jonas had the good sense to look contrite. At least until Mother had vanished.

“Don’t think he’s as torn up about it as you do.” Jonas muttered remaining in the library a moment longer.

-Especially because he will attract people anyway, he can't go out without me to check on him, Jonas.- she responded him, sternly.
And she huffed in irritation when Daniel walked behind Jonas, threatening him.
-Stop doing this, boys. I don't want you to provoke each other and i don't want to see you fight like dog and cat, it that clear?- she told them, before that the British man had left the room.
Anyway, once she had clarified the situation with Jonas, the little vampire went to fetch her coat and she left, heading to the city center, where she had her date.

She was meeting an old friend, another ancient vampire like her, one of the other few left in the world and they had planned to go hunting together, like in the old days.
So, her night started like many others, searching for the right prey in the streets.
