A New Foster parent.

Amara sighed as she glanced at her watch, waiting for the social worker to bring out the little girl that she had agreed to foster. All she had known was that the little girl had been given a hard life before and she wanted to change that and she had the resources to do that.

Emily fiddled with her dress as she sat quietly in the back of the car. She was on her way to see a 'nice, friendly person', as she was told, but nothing about those words was reassuring.

She had been in the care of 'nice, friendly' people, and the result of that was something she did not want to think about. Now she was going to be shipped off to some other woman who was likely going to traumatize her even further. Just the thought of it made her want to cry.

"A-are we there yet?" She asked the driver softly, secretly hoping that the car would never reach its destination.

"almost." the social worker stated, before sighing as she glanced at the directions again, only to say "actually we are." she stated as she pulled into the driveway of a large white house that had a just as large yard.

"This is the place."

Emily waited in the car, watching the house as though she expected a monster to come rampaging through the door at any moment. She really didn't want to go and see whoever or whatever was beyond that door, even if the yard looked pretty nice.

"D-do I have to...?" She asked. It was a pathetic question, but she could not help herself. "You can just say I tried to run, and..."

[Shadowlight]

"I promise...this one isn't like the others." The social worker stated with a small smile "You'll like Amara, I promise. Now come on."



Amara heard the car in the driveway and let out a breath, she was nervous since she hadn't really been around small children since she was a teenager and helping with her younger sister.

here we go....pull yourself together.

she thought, trying to calm her nerves.

Stepping out of the car with shaky steps, Emily took a long, long look at the house...

... and bolted.

She didn't really think through her plan or destination, but simply ran as fast as her legs could carry her (which wasn't saying a lot). All she had on her mind just then was that she wasn't going to meet whoever they wanted her to meet. She wasn't going to be fooled again.

"Emily! Stop!" The socail worker, Trissa called as she ran after her, finally grabbing her by the arm.

"look...I know this is scary but I know Amara personally and I know she will take care of you okay? But you running off will make it even more difficult to place you and you may grow up in one of those group homes that you hear horror stories about.....I don't want that for you Emily."

she told her in a winded yet understanding tone

"B-but... but..." Emily tried, tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm scared, Trissa... I don't want to go anywhere..."

She tried to wrestle her arm out of Trissa's grip, desperately trying to escape before the noise attracted this 'Amara' she heard about.

"Let go!" She pleaded. "P-please, Trissa! I don't wanna go!"

"Emily...I know you are. I know you don't because of the others but I know that Amara is different, okay? give her a chance." Trissa stated




Amara heard and walked out, chuckling slightly to herself.

"Oi, is this one giving you a hard time?" she called, walking over to where they were.

The girl seemed terrified and she understood why from what she had heard from Trissa.

"Amara, Meet Emily. Sorry she's a bit....nervous."
Trissa stated, sending the tomboyish looking woman a pleading look.

"Anyone would be, being tossed around from place to place." she retorted before crouching down to Emily's hight.

"Nice to meet you Emily, I'm Amara."

Emily gave up struggling as Amara approached, utterly scared stiff by the intimidating woman. She couldn't tell how this person could possibly be nice in any way, and just looking at her drained all the fight out of her body.

"... y-yes ma'am," she stammered, remembering the woman's rough tone. "N-nice to... um..."
