Jiraiyra looked at his little son-pup and said to him gently, "Are you OK, honey? It's almost dinnertime. . . . Inu, maybe you remember back in the office that you surely belong to two worlds, the human and the animal. Now, I hate to contradict your sister--I'll speak for her because your mama is coming in after your snuggled in bed with your brother to talk to you on the same topic--but Kagome is, right now, anyway, but I think her way of thinking will change, chiefly interested in your human aspect. But you simply have not considered your animal-feature enough. Yes, you refer to such things as the "alpha" and the "pack"--fitting for dogs, but you seem in your speech, which often is figurative and hard to grasp, though I know you've acquired this fashion of speaking to protect yourself and--nobly--so many, many others--to use these dog-appropriate terms only metaphorically, not exactly realistically, maybe not even applicable to you.

"Now," Jraiyra continued, "I, at least am giving you the go ahead to--explore--your animal nature, to "run with the pack" now and then, and finally to BE A DAEMON-DOG half of the time--as long as you follow the conditions I set for you earlier--and as mama will repeat to you tonight.. . . . Inu, your a very, very intelligent boy, as shown in your scholastic record and your period in Special Forces. You know, only the most gifted--physically and intellectually--of men and women are accepted into the branch of service. You're just a boy! You've advanced further than most kids have by the time their 21!

"Right now, as far as your daemon-dog side of you is concerned, you're just a pup, and you have so much to learn still of animal life. But I know that you're a quick learner, and you will be able to express your daemon nature to the other dogs--in whatever mysterious language dogs have, or through demonstration--and other dogs, and even otherwise dangerous animals such as wolves and other predators--will come, as you become older and more formidable in size, strength and speed, the rest of the pack will come to respect you, even fear you a bit: and these traits are indispensable to a leader, as well as the intellect you possess as a boy, and I've no doubt are transferrable when you assume your other nature as --a now but also growing--pup.

"Get your mama and my permission and find a pack--for you it'll be easy: mother canines have BIG hearts for pups and cubs--run, attack prey, learn and relearn canine--and other types--of predatory srealth; not only regarding prey but also dangerous enemies and rival packs; you alone are capable of concluding verbal treaties with rival packs, other enemies--even your brother wolves; right now follow and strictly obey your dog-dam's guidelines of behavior; when your older run with the pack; very importantly at first obey explicitly the alpha's instructions. When you are older still you can assume a position as one of his most valuable advisers--and as I said YOU can create some degree of peace, at least for your pack, by verbal agreements: these animals will become your vassals and defenders! When the alpha dies, and if you are old enough, big and strong enough--you're already smart enough--you can yourself become Alpha dog! You may have to fight for your position, but I know you will be strong enough and cagy enough to defeat any rivals; besides, I'm pretty sure that the dying alpha, if you perform all the tings you should have beforehand, will name you as his preferred successor, and his word carries a lot of weight. In fact you may be the logical choice, and if another dog challenges you, I'm pretty sure a goodly number of other dogs will join you in fighting off the other claimant--or claimants.. . . .

There is so, so much more to tell you about what life in the wild will be like, but I'll leave that as much as possible for your mama to tell you tonight. If she should leave anything out, well, I'll tell you. InuYasha, I know that you understand that your life in the forest as daemon-dog--in fact you may even follow a wolfpack--you'll do just as well there--is a PART-TIME thing; the rest of the time (you're not ready for it but over time you'll spend half of your time with your pack)--the rest of the time youll be human, here at home with your mama and I, going to PS, playing with your sister, learning things from your brother and fellowshipping with him. . . .

Now, Inu, as a favor to daddy, will you assume your human form, so that you can join us for dinner? I know you've been through a lot today, and you must be hungry! If you want your privacy to tranform and get dressed, I will leave. Then come out and join your family. But, please, Inu, for me, will you do it?" Jiraiya smiled at his son, scratched his bent ears and left Inu, closing the door behind him.

Inuyasha did as he was asked, coming out in his normal state while wearing a tee and shorts.... Tucked under one arm was a rather thick-looking book...... The story within was what inspired his code-name.... And one of his two favorites. His gaze averted when he saw his mother and sister/love-interest. He in truth skipped lunch when he dozed off and fell asleep after taking refuge in his room. And there was in fact truth in his father's words of surrogate Or adoption occurring among she-wolves........ One pack who had been loyal to Inuyasha's natural father, Inu-no-taisho Or as he known within the village as Tōga Senju...... The alpha male, his mate and elderly predecessor had adopted the hybrid child as one of their own cubs; being introduced just after his birth....... Seeking to locate after he was stolen away from their demon ally....... Upon finding him among humans who treated him well, the pack kept careful watch and guard....... So there was truth in Jiraiya's words of wolves calling out to the puppy/boy.

It was now 7 PM, the usual time that Jiraiyra and his wife, and now that his entire family sat down to dinner. Tonight's fare included a fine roast, vegetables, and the starch potatoes, and iced tea or milk; each member of the family was free to choosw whichever drink he or she preferred. Ton Ton was fed at the same time, whenever his family ate. She had the same food as everyone else, as much as she wanted, including a piggy favorite :sliced aples in milk, sweetened with a little sugar. Like everyone else Ton Ton could eat as much as she wanted. She loved iced teanot too sweet but always mixed with a sufficient amount of saccherine, never sickeningly sweet. So Tsunade always saw that she had her fill of it. Jiraiyra and Tsunade alternated in feeding him so that the porky little pig would love each of her "parents' equally, and this arrangement satisfied both her "parents," and Ton Ton was always obedient to each ones' call, and she alternated eating--on the floor as befitted a pet--beside either Jiraiyra or Tsunade. But tonight she began a practice she would observe everynight from now on: she ate beside Inuyasha and nudged him gently whenever she needed more food; the pig always insisted on "seconds" Jiraiyra aske Inu if he from now on would like to feed Ton Ton.

after silently saying Grace to each one of the family's Deity or deities, all but one "dug in," but InuYasha waited briefly before he filled his plate with all he thought he could eat, which was not much, consisting largely of roast beef. True to his daemon-doggie nature, Inu was on better days a big meat eater; however, he would eat what was set before him.

His brand-new big brother, Naruto, noticed that Inu was eating rather lightly tonight. Naruto, who had remained mysteriously silent during the day, was himself devoted to food, and he was concerned that his little brother was not eating much tonight, and was often, though not always, only picking at his food. "I'm surprised that you're not eating much tonight, Inu. You've had quite a day, and whenever I go through stuff like you've been through, I just bury myself in food! Eating somehow makes me feel better: it lifts my my spirits, makes me stronger, so that that I can do my exercises beter, and also my assignments." Here Naruto confidentially whispered in Inu's ear, "I get thrashed on ny bare butt A LOT by my masters and other stronger, more experienced ninja kids--even strong girls! Eating helps! You can kinda "bury" your sorrows with food!" Inu felt a little better at this and began eating with a little gusto.

At this time Jiraiyra reminded both Inu and Naruto that Tsunade would be coming to the boys' bedroom very shortly after they were in bed; she wanted to talk mainly to Inu, but she would do so loud enough to include Naruto, since what she had to say would affect him too. Naruto answered for both of him when he said "Yes, sir."

Jiraiyra laughed at Naruto's formality. "I'm your father now, Naruto! Call me 'dad'!

Tsunade told Naruto likewise. "I'm your mom! Just call me that. We're family!"

Both tsunade and Jiraiyra looked at an unhappy Kagome. Jiraiyra told her on behalf of himself and his wife, "The same goes for you, my dear! you're our daughter!"

Kagome looked at Jiraiyra, smiled, and nodding her head said simply "OK, dad!" Then she returned to her food. Though she had taken a lot, she found she had not that much appetite and began taking small bites, and soon only picking at her food. Kagome was not only unhappy. She was as well ashamed of her excessive behavior toward Inu in the afternoon. She now thought that she should only have spanked Inu with his pants pulled down, but otherwise clothed, not nude and wallopped by her. She decided to tell Inu, "Maybe we can play "house" tomorrow or "school"; I'll get my friends, a few of them boys, to come play with us! It will be fun!" At her invitation Kagome felt better. She would still discipline her "little brother" as she found necessary; but she was now desperate to act as a traditional sister [maybe future boyfriend] should behave with her brother, and as was appropriate for siblings close in age, they should play together.

Naruto was not jealous of this projected relationship between Inu a nd Kagome. He would sleep with his brother everynight and the two of them would talk--about anything; and Naruto would, try at least, to teach Inu to speak more plainly, to abandon figurative cloudy, metaphorical language as much as possible, to assist his brother wit dilemas Inu may be facing in his daily life. Naruto also knew that he would be Inu's ninja master before long, to teach his brother all the advanced wisdon and maneuvers in the martial arts and the Eastern philosophies including metatation, to reach God and / or his inner-self, so important to Tsunade, and naturally to Jiraiyra, who wanted Inu to come into greater contact with his daemon-canine self. Both he and his wife would speak confidentially and together with Naruto for each one's basic goals they wanted InuYasha to achieve. Both Jiraiyra and Tsunade desired that Inu be awarded the ancient Japanese knighthood; in the meantime both parents agreed that Inu should continue to help those in distress, as he had done in the past and as a knight would be his duty; but both parents agreed it would be years before Inu was ready for this. Jiraiyra, in particular, was interested in Inu's advanced knowledge of his animal nature and additionally discover means by which he could be a great, but non ruthless but just ruler--one day--of the forest. Again, both Inu's parents, keeping to themselves their ambition for Inu that their small son should be one day in advance of Naruto, that he would in fact be a knight in shining armor for the people; Jiraiyra dreamt of a daemon-animal that would display such skill, such intelligence, and such a seeker--and establisher--of peace and order, a creature the like of which the forest animals had never seen, nor yet even realized could exist--even conceived.

The family in company with Ton ton spent about an hour at table, with Jiraiyra, Naruto, and to a lesser extent Tsunade doing the most of the talking. Mom told Kagome that she and the girl were responsible for washing the dishes, but the whole family helped, with Inu given the task of dumping the evening's garbage. With everyone helping in one way or another it took only a short time for clean-up. Tsunade informed the boys that bedtime was 9:00, the same for Kagome, and Tsunade showed the young ones their rooms.

The family returned to the living room, wher they would engage in the usual activity of people after dinner. Soon it was bedtime, and Inu and Naruto went to their bedroom. Naruto laid out their nightshirts, the only item of clothing the boys would wear. As it happened Tsunade did not go to the boys' room for half an hour after the boys' bedtime. This would give them a chance to talk, especially about Inu "outburst" against himself, Tsunade and Kagome. But neither one dwelled much on that. Naruto was far more interested in Inu's reaction to his new family. He stll planned to strap Inu's bare bottom the next night, for his previous disrespect, yes, but largely to establish his own hegemony over Inu: his position as a protective big brother, as an indication of what Inu could expect for disobedience or disrespect to him, to remind Inu that he would not only be his trainer but also his master--and always would be, no matter how far Inu had advanced, no matter if Naruto's training of the boy had gone as far as it could: he would always be Inu's master. But, most of all, he would always be Inu's loving older brother and protector; even when InuYasha was supposedly "on his own," Naruto would somehow always be there--just in case: and like a lioness protecting her cub, he would SPEED to Inu's help when necessary. When the two were in bed, Naruto simply put his hands behind his head and asked his brother, "What's on your mind, Inu?"

"I know that You're Plenty sore at me....... Saw how your face turned Tomato-ish......." Inu started, meaning color. "And what I can't figure out is Why I keep picking up the smell of a kitsune when it comes to you And Not human like I do with Momma and Kagome.........." He added. The book he had carried out was nearby. There was a set of distant howls and not from any of the dogs that lived in the village. He knew that it was his surrogate sire, dame and grand-sire. "Aw drat!......." He grumbled. "Didn't think that they'd come out of their territorial boundaries........." He added. The pack's culture was like the native american tribes of humans in the part of the world where he mostly grew up. The wolves in question were like wolf demons in size but didn't have a human form.

Jiraiyra and Tsunade looked at each other briefly, Jiraiyra especially knowing what was going on. But both of them had agreed, when Jiraiyra asked his wife to speak to InuYasha about what he considered the boy's great, though by no means consuming, relationship to dogs--and, as he now realized, to wolves--that they would "Keep Inu" human" for at least two years, so that Naruto could train him more and be a close human companion, friend, and, most importantly, brother, to Inu; so that he could attend PS under the tutelage and support of Kogame, as well as advance his sibling-relationship with her, them being practically the same age and school form, and as she and both his parent hoped, her playmate; Tsunade's insistance on the legitimate mother-son relationship between herself and Inu; rare were the times that her son had received an actual, loving relationship with a mom, which a boy so desperately needed, one who could feed him well and properly, help him go shopping for clothes, tuck him in and kiss him goodnight, sometimes singing with her sweet voice lullabys to him (and to Naruto, too) to help him fall asleep, to nurture him and love him as only a mama could: she would rather bake in hell--"goddam it!"--than thurn him over to a pack of wolves now! Inu was HER son! Jiraiyra quite willingly concurred with his wife, and he too needed Inu at home all the time--except of course when he was at school--so that he could himself prepare Inu for the distant future that he and Inu so desired for his son, so that he could give his son fatherly advice and counsel, teach him boxing so that Inu could defend himself more effectively in schoolyard figting than his knowledge of martial arts could provide--Jiraiyra was grateful fo Kogame's projected--and as seen past--support of her brother against teasing; but Inu daddy wanted his son to be able to defend himself in case of attack. Like Tsunade, Inu's father loved his son, and he too would nurture his son as only a daddy could; that, like Naruto, would be around--somehow--when Inu was inserious troble; that he would "invisibly" watch over his son. So, it appeared to Inu, rightly, that neither of his parents, nor Kogame or Naruto, wanted him to "run out of the house, puppy as he was, and join his mysterious, mystic and powerful family outside," as Jiraiyra remarked earlier, while the little puppy whined himself to sleep in his room.

Inu's parents and Naruto discussed forthrightly all these maters to Inu during the hour he and Naruto were given until bedtime. Kagome, however, was rather ashamed, not of punishing Inu but of whipping him so severely that afternoon, and she sat in a chair, a twin of which graced the couch on one side, Naruto occupying the other side while Inu sat comfortably and not uneasily between Jiraiyra and Tsunade on the couch. Kagome was the only one of Inu's newly-acquired family that did not speak. She sat, her head down, in a rather sulky position, silent. After all had had their say, and it was only 10 minutes before the three kids' bedtime, Jiraiyra urged the girl to give her opinion, and Tsunade echoed this (close to) demand. The girl stretched and yawned, physically and psychologically tired from the events of the day, and addressed InuYasha directly. "I'm so, SO very sorry to have treated you so--savagely--this afternoon. Yes, brother, you deserved a spanking on the bare bottom. But not totally naked, not with a leather strap, and not so hard and long. A hand spanking would have sufficed. . . . There will be times when I'll have to spank you--even naked but with a hairbrush, as well as with just your pants down and by hand. But I understand now that your--performance--this afternoon was a doggie-like response to being, seemingly, cornered and threatened. . . . I KNEW about your daemon-animal nature, I should have realized what was going on. . . . But I forgot. I know you HAVE to train a puppy, sometimes by spanking--but never to the point of abuse. Please, Inu! Please, forgive me! I forgot. . . . . I certainly overreacted!. . . . And I heard your whines from your room."

Afterward she joined her new parents, saying Inu needed more experience of human family life before he ventured out, even for the briefest of times, into the forest, in his animal form. "Besides, Inu," Kagome observed, "Your just a puppy! Wait until you're older!"

Then the antique, grandfather clock in the hall chimed 9:00, and Tsunade aid, "All right, kids! Bedtime!--Inu, give me a few minutes and I'll be at your bedside to provide more information about and in addition to, what your father has told you about your human / daemon-animal nature."

Jiraiyra said "I'll be with you in a few minutes, Kagome, to see to your needs, and boys, after your ama has spoken to you I will be in to see that your're snug and tight for bedtime."

After that the boys walked to their bedroom; Naruto completely undressed and put on his longish nightshirt, then Bade Inu to do the same. "By the way, Inu," Naruto asked, pretty curiously, "What is that big book you carried about? It looks pretty hard!"

"Oh, that? It's a story called White Fang........ The title character was part wolf and part dog...... born wild but is domesticated first by the brother of the mother's owner...... In time He's befriended by a young man who unlike the other humans that he came across...... shows him affection....." Inuyasha explained as he put on the nightshirt, knowing what he Once worn was more towards boys Naruto's age. He hadn't looked at the state of his bottom at any point since running to his room after his spanking from Kagome, glad that she saw her error.......... He missed out on what many thought was the best part about getting spanked: cuddles. "It's fine If You're gonna poke fun at me for it....... Used to it........." Inuyasha muttered, letting it slip of the "abuse" that he suffered by other kids. He didn't know just how affectionate kids could be. He had yet to explain his reaction over being and told to strip by his sister and mother.

In their bedroom Naruto did examine the color and general condition of Inu's bottom, ans went so far, after his brother had finished speaking, "Well, your butt's pretty red, and I see a few welt marks. I know it hurt, Inu, both during and after your strapping. And, of course, we could all see your attitude toward Kagome's stripping of you. As far as Mrs. Tsunade's--mom's--switching of you is concerned--just last night! well, she had lost you once, and she doesn't want to lose you again! But, at least she did admit to you that she had--at least somewhat--gone too far; that maybe even her whipping of you was based on a total misunderstanding, and that she was sorry she had gone so far! But you did atleast see that she's REALLY protective of you! She waled the tar out of that girl who teased you while mom was punishing you! And she'd do it to anyone, boy or girl, that attacked you! Anyway, Inu, maybe your language, even when your speaking to mom, is sometimes a little mysterious, a little figurative, a little metaphorical, even, and, yeah, it's a great weapon when you're acting as a double agent; it's even effective in talking to guys and girls you know are enemy spies; it can even get you out of enemy custody, if that ever happened to you. Maybe at school it can keep you from getting into trouble! But at home, well, I think dad pretty much gets what you're saying, but mom, Kagome and I--we have problems with it; maybe it sounds like you're lying, or hiding the truth, when, maybe you think, you are speaking as plainly as you can right now--and the truth, too! Anyway, I'm gonna try and teach you how to modify your language--never for when you're talking to strangers, and not even when you're talking to Mr. Jiraiyra; but when you're talking to me or mom, ya gotta learn to speak in plain language--or you'll get in trouble with us because, like I said, you'll sound like you're either deliberately lying or hiding the truth in fancy, really mystic language that maybe guys who spend all their lives on a mountain top reading and meditating can understand: that's not gonna help you when you have to explain yourself to mom or me! So, we'll start working on that soon, but quite a while before school starts so that you can answer long-answer test questions and questions about the lessons in class that the teacher may ask you directly.

As far as Kagome is concerned--you saw, and felt! pretty clearly that she really doesn't understand everything about you yet. She's pretty smart, and she's picked up a few things about you. She knows you're teased at school and don't really know yet how to respond to that. So she steps in and wales Clair's tail again--and she's a brat! She deserves it! And she's gonna pass knew rules against bullies, so that for their first offense they get their bare asses whipped with a thick bamboo cane, and for a second offense their whipped bare ass and expelled. ALL that's good, and it'll go some ways to helping you. One more thing she's gonna do is hang out with you at recesses and will scare kids who tease you away! Yeah, Kagome loves you. But I've been her friend for a while, and I know how she is. She DEMANDS complete respect, obedience and truthfulness from everyone, and when she doesn't get these things from someone, then she gets 'em! One way or another, she gets even. Right now she hates bullies! THEY'RE gonna get it! Sometimes from her, sometimes by the school, but they'll pay! And they'll especially get it if they bully or tease you! Yeah, she'll be there for you. But Inu, I'M gonna be there too! You can count on me! I'll kick their asses from here to China!

"Anyway, since Kagome is such a--I've gotta be honest!--power freak, she whipped your tail so that you'd KNOW she's "in charge" of you! In short, her whipping was, yeah, in part because she was mad, because her feelings were hurt, because she thought that mom, she and I were liars from what you said--and she DOESN'T like people "scratching back" at her and her friends when she's got 'em cornered! But THAT by itself is a sign that she doesn't--yet--get your full nature! You're a young guy but you're a pup too--and she knows it, but she may forget it! Kagome wants to set up her hegemony over you--and I think I kinda said that before! So, when you're talking to HER, ya gotta be as plain--and as truthful--as you can be. She doesn't want you to be afraid of her. She's your sister, and you guys are gonna do the things brothers and sisters the same age do--you're gonna play together! She doesn't want you like a scolded pup around her, slinking almost on your belly, your eard bent, your tail between your legs. She wants you--as do I--as a friend, a confidante, a brother--NEVER as a servant! But, because of the way she is, or can be anyway, be real careful to avoid her saying "I don't understand. . . . What do you mean?. . . . " Ya gotta talk as plainly to her as you can--you and I will work on it. She's not your enemy, she's your sister: so you don't have to lie to her, and you don't have to use flowerly, mystic language that might give her the impression that, even though you aren't out-right lying, still you have SOMETHING to hide--maybe something important.

"One more thing, Inu. I'm your older brother, and I'm gonna help you, support you, fight for you. And I'm gonna teach you everything I know about the ancient, Eastern knowledge of fighting, and the way you can put this knowledge into practice. And I'm gonna teach you how to meditate, and to learn total obedience, and when you don't obey me or my instructions, if you make mistakes--not because you're just learning bu because you didn't obey a rule or guideline I set for you--for eample, or whenever you don't show me respect during your classes with me, I'm gonna whip your bare ass with a leather strap! Also, as your brother, it's my responsibility to keep you safe, to keep you out of trouble--that you could have avoided completely to begin with, or not begin mouthing off to someone or because you didn't listen to me you would get in trouble, and you don't listen to me, or whenever you deliberately put your own life in danger--by however means you do it--I'm gonna strap your bare ass! And I don't care who's there to see!

"Not tonight, Inu, since you've had it kinda rough today and last night, but tomorrow night, after you're dressed for bed, we're gonna have to have a serious talk--not about lashing out or calling me and your mom and sister liars--but about all those times you took on dangerous--really fatal, unattainable missions voluntarily. You were just too young, Inu, and someone's gotta take you to task for it! You're gonna have to 'fess up to all the dangerous missions you--voluntarily--took on for the Special Forces, and you're gonna have to tell me the plain truth! I KNOW you've been on 'em. We've even past each other when you were on operations, and I thought then--and I think now!--you were just too young! A baby, really! They should've sent a guy at least my age with about my experience to go on these missions. So, since you're my younger brother, I HAVE to find out about these missions! Anyway, how do I know you won't go on another one again, somehow, for some reason, on behalf of some guy?

Inuyasha sighed almost grumbling, sniffling with a bit of a whine as he laid on his tummy. "I said that you guys didn't understand, didn't call you liars...... That's why i stayed among the team, no one but them understood me..... I can't help using military-style jargon......... Learned it by listening, like anybody else....... Reason I fought with Kagome was partly because Those jerks at my old school....... Used to do it to make me change forms in hopes that I'd get expelled...... Not suppose to transform on school grounds........ Usually shoved me in into my locker, where I'd be trapped until a janitor Or teacher found me......... I'm normally on reserve during the school year...... Happen that the last couple of days were teacher-in-services which meant freedom like any holiday. After all, Not really a demon; not really human. I'm not either. That's all. There was no place for me, so I had to find one myself. And then I realized. I had a place, but I was the only one in it. I didn't know any other way to live. Far as i could see........ I'm walking/living on the line yet....... Only few can see past...... The joes...... The wolves currently outside the village........ That's Not possible, my induction as a joe came under unique circumstances And rules set by Social Services.... I'm only Allowed on missions when i'm Not in school.... I'm The Only Official Juvenile member, one's honorary being the son of the man who led G.i.Joe, nice guy once you get to know him....... Those who demand what Kagome's demanding..... are Usually heading down a very dark path if they're Not careful...... The head of the ones who took me's proof......... The times that we've crossed paths....... It was My turn in rotation..... 'Kura usually griped because of locale..... Everyone there has some sort of specialized skill-set either learned through experience through service prior to joining Or in their lives outside of the organization. Besides If I'm Not mistaken, Kids can be deemed fit for missions by the time they're My age If Not Younger...... Studied up on customs of the shinobi nations.... Simple, You don't." He explained, ears flattened over his brother's sentence. He then explained of what was said the evening before not knowing if it had been rumored about. He didn't know what Naruto's feelings towards him were, were they like Kagome's?

While Inu was finishing his semi-autobiography, explanation of his unusual, maybe sometime esoteric speech, a reflection of his--and the "spy" service for which he worked--his fellow soldiers and others knowing they had to use euphymisms, just in case enemy agents were around, his explanation that he was a fully-commissioned sabbateur-espionage agent for the Joes--which meant that he was working for the government; and his and the government's plan was never to use little boys to accomplish selfish or nationalistic goals for the men who sent him but to save lives, on both sides. Even though Inu lacked the chain male, the stallion, and the spear--though he did carry the long knife, kind of a sword--he was already a knight in shining armor, or even a paladin, his goals never selfish but carried out for the protection of friendly and enemy people, children, women, men sometimes too weak to know what was going on--all the people under his protection. Inu said none of this, but, maybe, these words were floating in his mind.

Anyway, Naruto could not read Inu's mind, but he did manage to piece together a scenario for Inu's past life and experiences. First, Inu did not believe he was fully human and fully daemon. He wasn't quite sure, yet, of his new mom's opinion about Inu's wild nature as very definitely real and a full reflection of his ability to live in the wild for an indefinite period of time, and in that respect, Naruto believed was fully daemon, and by means of showing that he could control his transformations, no matter how angry he had been while Kagome strapped him naked, only converting afterward into the puppy he also was--possibly feeling he did not want to cry long and hard over, what he considered, Kagome's harsh and even unfair, not to mention his frustration of all this--Naruto saw that while his bigger, stronger sister whipped him, he was wild. But he was wild like a boy who was struggling to avoid a hard, maybe unjust whipping--a sentient human boy who knew exactly what was going on and was fighting to avoid it. Naruto had seen it, and experienced it first hand, among boys at the academy and, more saliently, among both "recalcitrent" girls as well as boys, never thrashed in private but always "bare ass"--even the girls--out in the open, for all to see. Naruto was a feisty boy, was always officially labelled as one, a boy who often disrespected, even attacked it verbally or "sassing" it--all his instructors knew about it, as well as older, stronger boys and even girls realized and, instead of fist-fighting them, as Naruto wanted, would humiliate him by tanning him--once again out in the open--and their practice continued until Naruto was able to ingeniously, based on some mystic skill, or even Easter magic, to create "clones" of himself, who would either defend him against "ass--assault" as Naruto termed it--or one of them would present himself for the whipping that was due Naruto--the boy got off scot-free. Naruto learned this skill not so long ago, just after his 13th birthday.

Naruto realized he had spent too much time reflecting on himself and not analysing his brothr's nature. Anyway, Naruto's completely human responses diring Tsunade's punishment of him--and the fact that he did not transform even afterward to whine and lick his wound--an action he obviously believed befitted his puppy nature rather than his--genuinely strong--human nature, and his willingness to take Kagome's whipping as a boy, not transforming until it was all over--well, Naruto saw that Inu's human nature was very strong. He was also a human hero and comrade of the Joes, and Naruto realized this.

Finally, he saw that, probably so many of the kids at school , some of them not even considered bullies, Inu felt much more at home among the guys of Special Services, who knew what he was and understood his unique power, and naturally preferred them to those "assholes" at school, cornering him, trying to make him turn into an animal--still a pup, but a formidable one, really more wolf than dog. Naruto had heard this from reputation, and the fading howl of the wolves otside of the village showed that his wild family wanted him, needed him. So, with all the rather plainly spoken words of inu, Naruto could see, even understand, why his little brother preferred being a "secret agent," a spy, a soldier specializing in a kind of diplomacy because of his flowery, figurative language, ability to tell truths but hiding many of them in figures, as Naruto understood through his knowledge--teaching in--spy work, etc.--and metaphores that others might not understand fully, or even at all, but sounded covert to enemy agents--disguised as diplomats, even trained in that art in special schools set up to teach them about the matters, and tricks and lies of diplomats; or they were trained in this art by universities--of necessity to protect his people's desire for peace with the enemy--often genuine, but just as often not--that his own government, or even the Joes or Special Forces he worked for--were supposedly unaware--but knew all about; this covert language of the little "embassador" was necessary to protect both himself and then. This resulted in basic acceptance of Inu's "truthfulness" to them. especially sinse they did eactly the same thing, with some but usually unsuccessful results, sinse Naruto recognised their falsehoods covered in pretty, "reassuring" languge. They did this, As did Inu himself, to alert moles and outright spies among the Joes so that these would get the picture of what was going on.

What Naruto did not know, and Inu might choose to tell him or not, was that unlike adversarial agents and diplomats was that he was, besides being expert in PE in shool and complete mastering of the languges he already knew, leading to total expertise of Midwestern-standard Amirican English, down to the minutest accent and little-known phrases and slang of young people and kids, Inu had a knowledge of the art of rhetoric, enhancing his service to the joes. He learne that and it's difference with logic, which sought to attain the knowledge of some kind of truth, didaining entirely flowery or mystical language; he learned how to establish premises, true or not, and how to support them with examples, which sounded reasonable but were often based on hearsay or even old wives tales, or downright lies, cleverly disguised as truth. This led to Inu's all-important mastery of lies that sounded like the truth. If Inu were ever captured by enemy agents he could, of course, tranform, and run as fast as he could, his daemonic speed, and reach safety, and this was something that Special Services, to a man, told him he should do; but his more clever, even reassuring rhetorical speech to the enemy, that he was a "mole" in the camp of the Joes and that he had "special information" for him, revealing false, but seriously, "supported" evidence--that would lull the enemy to sleep, opening the door for some kind of damaging attack; Inu knew he could use this method only once among a variety of enemy agents, but this method often led to the desruction of enemy strategy, saving the lives of many.. . . . Naturally, Inu could use this clever maneuver to avoid getting into trouble at school and at home, especially on Kagome and Naruto himself--neither of whom knew, yet, that Inu was more clever, even smarter, than they gave him credit for, maybe even smarter than them.. . . . Anyway, Naruto understood that Naruto was not neither but BOTH fully daemon, fully human, and Naruto knew this alone would serve Inu well in his upcoming training. But Naruto was not going to be like Kagome; he would, occasionall and under close supervision, allow Inu to take chances which, the older he got, the more dangerous they would become but never such that Inu himself or assistance with Naruto could overcome. He would also allow the boy to transform into his animal nature, sometimes allowing him to run in the forest and make some contact with other wild dogs and his broth, parental wolves, sometimes on hunting and fishing trips, allowing his brother to live and hunt successfully, even to--closely--and dangerous--referreing by Naruto; how to live and thrive in the forest when he had to; all of this as part of his loose training by Naruto.. . . . Naruto made special mention of Inu's vague language and animal nature and human nature, his daemonic qualities standing equal to his humanity, both of which Inu was in full possession of, so that Inu, far from being a weirdo, was the most gifted individual he knew, and he would teach the boy to make use of both, as part of his martial-arts training.
