White FedEx car stopped near Mrs. White house. Postman slowly walks to the gate and calling in. Delivery wasn't large, but it was important and required receipt signature. "Come on, Mrs. White, big yellow envelope awaits you!" said he out of boredom two minutes after ringing bell. Day was hot like a hell and postman wasn't curious about damn envelope even in a slightest bit. But if he could (big no-no, but just imagine he did) look into it...

Envelope was full of legalese stuff. Main letter stated:

Dear Mrs. White,

We are pleased to inform you that your request to become a custodian for Bethany Baker was approved. You could pick her at...

...after some contact info things become interesting:

You could at a full extent exercise parental control and right to discipline mentioned person.

...Spanking was not banned in this state, not even in schools. Of course, old good days are all over and hypocrites didn't mentioned this effective mean directly, recommending "detention", "witholding of pocket money", "parental control over communication devices" and other nonsense. Mobile SIM and banking debet card was included, with boringly detailed instructions how custodian could remotely control it, limit, or even block completely. Girl was actually quite rich, but for now assets were frozen due to trial over her Dad. Thus, she have to rely on social security and mercy of her custodian...

"What?!" irritated high-pitched girl's voice responded after a while through latch in the door.

"We have to go. You will receive PIN to your phone..." insistingly said woman in uniform.

"What?! Ping-pong? Bwahahaha!! Do YOU wanna play with me?" girl laughed out loud.

"Bethany, please do not cause us any more trouble. It is your last day here at centre..."

Mention of the last day was inspiring enough and girl imposingly left the room.
"Oh, home, sweet home, I'm leaving forever, no-o-o-o-o!" quavered Bethany while walking before staff member. Woman in uniform quietly sighs. Their way lay in waiting room with just long methal table and two office chairs. Waiting here would not be any fun... After a while another women arrived with some legalese.

"What's this? I was promised a phone, money and my car. If you release me from prison..." said Bethany.

"This is not a prison, Bethany, it's centre for detained persons. Please sign here. This is your codes for your debet card and phone. Just codes, OK?" younger staff member responded.

"And where should I show this *CODES*, huh?"

"Your custodian just arrived to pick you up." said older woman. "And I hope" (she emphasized), "she will show you where..."

Women left and door was closed again.

Samantha White, arrived at the center and was directed to where she could pick up her charge, the young Bethany Baker, her old boss had told her about the case that her father was the defendant in and she wanted to help the girl so that she wasn't lost in the system given that her father't trial would end up having him never see the outside of a jail cell for the rest of his natural life.

Samantha, or Sam as she asked people to call her, was a middle aged woman in her early thirties with shoulder length beach colored hair and wore a white short sleeved shirt and knee length blue jeans and trainers, to most she looked relaxed and she was these days given that she had left her rather stringent career of a criminal district attorney, she had made her fortune on one of the largest cases of her career and was now set on cash for life. As she now spent her time by herself she wanted nothing more than to help people so when this situation was presented to her she jumped at the chance.

Opening the door into the room where she was told her charge was Sam took off her sunglasses and opened the door as she stepped inside and looked around till she spotted the young girl, "hello I take it you're Bethany?" she asked gently

Bethany quite snapped when the door suddenly opened. The woman entered looked affable, but she did not wear uniform, which made girl wary a bit. This may mean that she is her custodian and future is uncertain. Bethany liked the fact centre staff never even elevated the voice, while girl slowly increased her enfant terrible level, just to test limits. Enough with this, she could play a good girl too.

"Good afternoon, I'm Bethany!" she rose from her seat rather enthusiastically. Girl suddenly noticed that the anxiety covered her more and more, almost to a shudder in her voice. "Damn, if I appear weak..." quickly flashed a fragmentary thought, and Bethany began to look at the ceiling with as calm a face as possible.

Of course, all this time she tried to read the woman's face with quick, cautious eyes. She seemed well confident and friendly.

Sam nodded with a warm smile, "Good afternoon Bethany, My name is Samantha White, but you can just call me Sam" she smiled, "I'm your custodian, the one who's going to be looking after you while you come and live with me" she explained, smile never falling.

"Nice to meet you, Sam! I'm ready!" said Bethany, awkwardly hiding received envelopes in the pocket. During a short stay in the center she was left completely without her belongings. What she was wearing now was meant to be formal and make innocent impression in court, and she would prefer comfortable clothes now. Instead, she was left with blue strict jacket and the same colour pleated skirt. The costume was finished with a white blouse and half-closed white shoes, as well as a neck scarf, which, however, she tore and threw out yesterday, when she was hysterical about trial outcome.


Girl left the table and approached Sam, waiting for further events. She looked with her deep blue, almost violet eyes and head slightly tilted.

Sam smiled and nodded, "alright then, come along dear" she said and turned to lead the young girl out of the center and to her car that was parked outside, it wasn't anything fancy, while she did have a lot of money Sam preferred not to flaunt it, evident by the middle class life style she lived, while not having to work another day in her life.

Seated in the front seat, girl again felt calm and confident. When Mrs. White turned the key, she murmured "Sam, by the way, could we drive to store first? They sorta confiscated all my clothes in house, I need something comfy, just dying in this jacket. Please..." After a while, she added "And new phone. They said you should have my phone, I 'll call all my friends right now. Is it here?"

Sam nodded, "Yes I was planning to take you to the store to get you some new clothing" she explained, "And I don't have your phone exactly, I have your phones sim card, so once we have gotten you a new phone and put the credit on it I will give you the sim" she explained as she drove heading to the mall.

Bethany was slightly dissapointed she can't start chatting with friends right now. Looking at the interior of the car for a while, girl decided to talk about Samantha's life.

"Sam, you probably know something about me... I want to know about you. I was told you will not just look after me, help finish school and all that stuff. You can restrict me..." girl said jokingly, continued with all possible directness "I do not beleive somebody will scold me if I show late, for example, better give me a key and I promise to step silent like a faerie. Just example..." Bethany raised hands, smiling.

Sam listened and nodded, "Yes that is true, I will be looking after you and help you to finish your schooling, before I retired I was a very successful prosecutor, a lawyer, so I know quite a few things" she explained

"you will be restricted, you will have rules and curfews to follow, as such will help you to learn discipline and obedience, going out late and such things like that will be considered privileges that you will have to earn, so no I will not be just giving you a key," she said with a sight edge, "you may have had a lack life up till now young lady but things have changed, and either you change with them or you are in for a very rude wake up call"
