Kassandra sighed as she glared out the window at the rolling green hills thst practically flew past the window of her father's car. No one spoke, the silence hanging heavy over them as the teen sat in the backseat, eyes trained out the window with her arms crossed over her chest.

this only proves they don't care. They were never home before and once they couldn't pretend I didn't exist they ship me off to some state ran, super-sized orphanage

She thought bitterly while trying to ignore the burning sensation that pushed at the backs of her eyes.

Kassandra thought just as s large brick building came into view.

She had expected it to look like a prison, complete with guards and a barbed wire fence however the building, though huge had an almost welcoming feel to it. She could even see a group of people in one of the surrounding Meadows playing football.

However as the car was put into park and she was wordlessly handed her belongings what little hope she had held died away. Though she would admit she had brought this on herself.

This school was a relatively new one, and its headmistress, Silmani, was, at twenty-five years of age, relatively young. Having loved and worked with troubled children in her everyday life as a younger woman, she had helped to found this school when very few people had believed it would be useful or beneficial.
Silmani made a point of meeting with every one of the school's new wards in person. Today, however, as she pinned her long black hair back, and adjusted the collar of her gown, her hands shook a little.
This was the first time that the school had ever been asked to take on a teenager. There were teenagers here, yes, but they had all been children when they first arrived. Silmani would have to pretend that she was not terrified, for otherwise, she could make no headway.
When she had deemed herself presentable, and had taken a few deep breaths, she made her way into the entrance hall, walking with a graceful stride, to meet the girl. She offered her her hand and a smile.
"Call me Miss Silmani. You're Kassandra?"

Kassandra looked at the woman trying to appear intemidateing and not like she was about to cry.

"Yeah, I'm Kassandra. I'm guessing you're the Headmistress?"

She replied, her voice nonchalant as she took her hand.

she may act nice but she'll be just like everyone else. She doesn't really care about you

Silmani looked into the girl's face and felt a silly urge to throw her shoulders back and raise her chin. "So, if she does seem a little upset?" she thought, almost defiantly. "I'm not afraid of a teenager!"
"I am. Let's get you to your room." She gave her hand a gentle little tug. "This school is still a little new. It isn't very big, though we're planning to expand it. You'll be sharing your room with three other girls and a boy. They're all under eleven." She had heard some things about the girl's temperament and had thought it best not to board her with other teenagers. Surely she and the younger children, who were sweet things, would leave each other alone and not fight too much.

Kassandra followed, she didn't like being lead around like a kid but she didn't comment.

Silmani couldn't help but to squeeze the girl's hand a little. She remembered her teen years, and she remembered that her parents had had high expectations of her, behavior-wise, academically and careerwise. She'd done her best to fulfill them, to be the good girl, but it hadnt been easy. The feeling that she wouldn't be loved or liked unless she could be perfect had made her sympathetic to youngsters who were considered troublesome.
"We have the room to ourselves for a moment." They stepped into the sunlit bedroom. "This is your bed, where I'd like to sit and talk for a minute. May I call you Kass?"

She answered, unsure of where any of this was going. She already knew that she was sent here to live until she was too old for the system. She knew her family had given up on her and really hadn't seemed to care in the first place so what did they have to talk about?

"What do we have to talk about?"

"Whats there to talk about? I fucked up and my parents ditched me." she retorted, crossing her arms over her chest. She was determined not to show how badly she felt, nor how much she felt like crying.
"I got into a fight at school then got caught smoking in the bathrooms. Anything else you need to know?"

She didn't mean to sound rude but her tone of voice comes off as such
