In the world of Atmor, on the western coast of Olympia, there was a skyship preparing to set sail. One of the daughters of the High Lord wanted to explore, so her father hired a ship and crew to take her wherever she desired.

Meanwhile, a street rat orphan by the name of Joseph also wanted to explore and sail the skies. So, the small boy snuck onto the ship.

Sixteen year old Marianna's crew was not a formal crew. It consisted of a handful of her friends. Sixteen year old Onstan, the ship cook, was preparing beef sandwiches. Eighteen year old Jack was trying, and failing, to be in charge. He wasn't a bad guy or even a bad tempered boy; he was actually very energetic and good-natured. A bit TOO energetic and too good-natured. Having dispensed some unwanted advice regarding fitness to Marianna, he was now peering over Onstan's shoulder.
"You sure you don't need help with that, Stan?"
"YES, I'm sure. And don't call me STAN."
"A little more meat on that wouldn't hurt."
"You become the ship cook, then, and make everything the way you want it." Onstan ducked past him, carrying a plate of sandwiches.
Marianna couldn't help but to giggle, having been torn away from the beauty of all that lay below by the sound of the usual bickering.

Little Joseph smelt the sandwiches and paled when his stomach quietly growled. He was gonna get found out, and they hadn’t even left port yet!

Marianna accepted her sandwich from Onstan. "Thanks, Onstan. They're perfect, as always."
Onstan smiled, but the smile was replaced by a narrow-eyed glare in Jack's direction when he helped himself to three sandwiches, as well as the meat filling out of two others, leaving the bread behind. "So where are we headed now?"
Marianna took s bite. "I don't know, Jack," she admitted as she chewed.
"You mean we're lost?" Onstan worried.
"Of course not. I only mean - well, that we're just drifting along till we find another world - any world. Thats why I've come out here - for adventure. I don't know where we're going, and i don't care, so long as it's somewhere."
Onstan sat back, hands tucked behind his head, and reflected on what she'd said. Jack, however, frowned.

Joseph tried to sneak himself a sandwich from the kitchens.

At length, Onstan remarked, "Random adventures sound good to me!"
But Jack didn't approve. He sat there for a time, brow furrowed. Then, as if suddenly inspired, he smiled again. "Hey, my Lady! Since you don't know where we're going, why don't you let me take a look at the map and decide for you!"
Onstan bit his tongue.
"That's sweet of you., Jack," Marianna began, "and i -"
"Then that's settled!"
"Hey, she never said yes!" Onstan snapped. "And leave my sandwiches alone!"
They bickered some more, and then Jack went off, singing badly, to the kitchen for food.
