Gareth walked into the jail, past the Hedradan guards stern and unyielding in their perfectly forged armor. Gareth himself wore only plain clothes emblazoned with the symbol of Corean, his god, on his back. But he still carried a sword at his side, for he was as much a holy warrior as the guards (though some might have said otherwise). He wore his dark hair cut short so as not to give an opponent something to grab, and his green eyes were sharp and piercing.

"I wish to see the boy." He told the guards as he handed them a slip of paper. "I have your superior's order for you to release him into my custody."

The guards' expressions couldn't be seen through their helmets, but it was obvious that this was highly unusual. "Very well." One said. "He is on the first level, petty crimes, third cell on the right."

Gareth nodded, heading in the direction the guard had indicated. He soon came upon the cells where minor criminals were held pending trial, and stopped at the third on the right.

"Hello." He said. "Do you recognize me?"

Percy looked at the walls and cement bars as he sighed he was never going to get out of here he thought he had no parentage that he knew of his father long since passed and he never knew the elvish woman who bore him and left him with his father.

He ran a hand through his semi-long dark brown hair, blue eyes searching through the cell in hopes to find an escape route or something to pick the lock he wasn't a skilled theif for no reason. When he heard a deep voice thin frame looked out the cell "vaguely I have seen you around the village and heard of you your a hero and knight" he answered the man.

He leaned against the wall "what brings you here though?" He asked curiousty clear in his tone as he looked at him with confusion and a tilt of his dark head.

"I'm the one who's pocket you tried to pick." Gareth reminded him. "Not very smart of you. I would normally leave you in this cell to await your trial, but there isn't going to be a trial in this case. I have secured your release into my custody."

"oh" he said for a lack of response to that "sorry" he added as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment he didn't usually get caught he thought "why am I in your custody though" he asked with curiosity swimming in his blue eyes as he looked at the older man as his cell was open.

"You are going to be my apprentice." Gareth told him. "I am a knight of Mithril, of the order of iron. All of my order has the ability to work magic..." He looked to the boy. "as do you."

Percy looked confused "you think I'm magic" he asked with a unsure tone "are you sure iev never known I had magic before" he admitted uncertainly as he stepped out of the cell "may I ask why you think I am" he asked not being used just simply curious as he tilted his head.

"I was using a simple spell to detect magic back when you were trying to pick my pocket, and it detected you." He told the half-elf. "You have probably been using sorcery without knowing it your whole life. Anyway, I'm offering you a deal. If you let me train you, you won't go hungry or sleep on the streets anymore."

Percy blinked "well that's doesn't sound like a awful deal" he said "ok I mean if you can teach me how that would be amazing" he said accepting the deal I mean food and a place to sleep wasn't exactly that bad a deal he thought as he tried to think of when he might have been using magic.

"Not so fast." Gareth grabbed his collar as the boy tried to walk past him. "That means you agree to be disciplined by me. Do you agree to that too?"

"ow ok" he said not fighting the grip he kind of thought that was obvious since that was how most apprenticeship went he thought he didn't have much experience in it but that was what he had heard from around the alleys when other apprentices would complain of it.
