The Two Horsemen (for Mavrick the mutt)

Merritt McKinney shut off the television, getting sick of watching the news. The man stretched his arms out with a yawn before getting up and walking out of the room, and toward the kitchen. "Kid, you home?" he called out to nowhere in particular, opening the refrigerator and grabbing a beer from it.

A member of the Four Horsemen, he had little to do while the group was on break from doing anything big. Atlas and Henley were off somewhere together, leaving Merritt stuck with Jack. Not that he minded too much. The kid had grown on him a lot through their adventures, and they had gotten pretty close. Now the pair lived in this little apartment together while they figured out what to do next.

Jack was currently in his room just lounging about on his bed whilst shuffling a small deck of cards, he was the youngest out of the group of magicians and on stage referred to as ‘The Sleight’ due to his card magic, at home however he was often just called ‘kid’ though more often than not it was by Merritt. The others usually just called him Jack or Jackie which he didn’t mind too much.

Upon hearing Merritt call out and ask if he was home the twenty year old got up and stuck his head out the door and looked in the hypnotists direction, “No.” He answered jokingly before fully emerging from his hide away wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt, his short brown hair a ruffled mess as he stretched a bit.

[Gare]

Merritt turned to the boy, taking a sip of his drink and taking a seat at the nearby table. "Finally. I've been waiting for you to get out of my hair for weeks." The older man didn't bother hiding the grin that showed he was joking just as Jack was. "So what, you were just laying in bed all day, kid?" he asked, taking note of the stretching.

Jack gave a small laugh man at the man’s response as he watched him take a seat before leaning against the side of the fridge after he’d finished stretching. “Played with my cards for a bit but other than that yeah, just been laying in bed.” He told the older male before sitting down in the chair across from him and leaned back a little.

[Gare]

"Not that I can blame you. It's not like we have much to do, just sitting and waiting." Merritt admitted, taking another sip of beer. He eyed the younger man, mostly out of instinct rather than actively searching for anything.

Jack eyed the man’s beer for a moment before turning his attention to the light fixture above them before pulling a card seemingly out of nowhere though in reality it had likely just been sitting in the pocket of his sweatpants. “Mer, I’m bored.” The young man said as he sent the card flying across the kitchen only for it to stick into an apple that had been sitting in the fruit bowl. “I’m gonna go and walk around town, wanna come with me?” He said as he stood up retrieving both the card and apple he’d cut into. “Maybe hustle a pool table or two.”

[Gare]

Merritt watched as the card cut into them apple before standing up himself. "Anything beats staying in here all day. So long as you don't get in too much trouble," Merritt teased, nudging the kid's shoulder.

“I can’t make any promises.” He said with a grin as the man nudged his shoulder before heading back to his bedroom to get dressed as well as brush his teeth.

[Gare]

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just hurry up, alright?" Merritt chuckled, finishing off his beer and tossing it in the trash while waiting for Jack to finish getting ready.

Luckily it never took Jack long to get dressed as he emerged about five minutes later sporting his usual black jeans, grey t-shirt and leather jacket. “Alright, I’m ready.” He said doing a final check to make sure he had his phone, keys and wallet....where was his wallet? A slightly puzzled looked crossed his face for a moment before looking over at the older horsemen.
