[World] Archipelagos: Mortal Species
The gods are eternal. But even they can grow lonely. There were only twenty of them after all, and the Bionicle did their best, but their masters wanted not just them. They began wanting to create more beings, but some argued that if they made more Bionicle-like beings, they would just grow tired of them as well!
It was then that Azura came up with a compramise that pleased all of her kin. To make creatures that were intelligent like them, but fleeting, like the plants and animals of the world that they would inhabit.
Though Zenithar was the God of Creation, and Mara the Goddess of Motherhood, and the two worked together to design and eventually bring to life the mortals of the world.
The first to arise were the dragons on the isle of Avalon. The dragons were divided into six tribes, based on the element that they could breathe to defend themselves. You can always tell what elemental breath a dragon has (and thus its tribe) by the color of its scales.

The next race to arise weee the Griffins of High Rock, clannish in their ways and slow to trust. But if an outsider gained their loyalty, it normally meant the gaining of a life-long ally.
Then came the Mer, joining the Seawing Dragons in their underwater domains, debating philosophy and scriences, and delving into the powers of water magic.
The centaurs then rode across the many isles after they had burst from Elsweyr. The satyrs danced in the forests of Valenwood, and minotaurs guarded their labyrinthineian villages on the isle of Crete.
