The Crimson Castle was placed far from big cities and wide roads. The family which lived there had it's own ways to maintain their living without villeins and servants, distant from the pretty dark times teh rest of the world was going through. Those were the ways of magic. The Nates family had great talents in wizardy, kept through generations, and collected a lot of occult secrets, being probably the most powerful magicians in the world.

The magic made them live longer, stay younger, protected of many trials and tribulations of commoners...

...But the magic was also dangerous and required the special discipline and responsibility.

Which made the Nates household and it's rules kinda special in more then one way.

Katherina Nates was in her mid 30's and had a number of kids, but looked, especially in comparsion to women of the same age outside of the Crimson Castle, incredibly well and younger then one would expect. She had wavy golden hair reaching her waist and lower, big eyes, blue as saphires, and curvy, yet elegant and slime figure, now partly hidden with her expensive crimson-red dress with fine golden needlework on it. Any noble lady out there would be proud to wear something like this. The needlework actually contained lots of occult symbols and powerful spells.

Right now Katherine was reading alone in one of castle's many libraries, sitting near the big stained-glass window...

One of her sons was called Samuel but he wanted to be called Sam. He was 10 but looked like a 8 year old. he was in the courtyard practising swordmanship under the supervision of Saria his older sister. She was, a bit strange for a girl, very skilled with the sword and trained her brothers. And they better did their best and be polite to her or else!|

[Jinchu]

"No, Sam! Hold the sword higher. And please, keep your feet fully on the ground. You can fall very easily like that." Saria commented on her brother's attempts. "I told you that many times already. You can seriously hurt yourself this way."

"Hurt myself? With such a dull sword?" He snorted. "I could do more damage with a feather."

[Jinchu]

"Yes, with it, if you'll fall on it." Saria frowned. "Start to take it seriously, or I won't train your again. Maybe you're still way too immature for swordfighting."

"Like you are so much older." He talked back. "And you promised mom to teach me, if you break my promised you will end up across her knee getting your bare bottom spanked." He laughed.

[Jinchu]

Saria gave the boy a long, gloomy look. "You know, who might get over my lap very quickly, if he won't stop mouthing off this instant? You, that's who! Now take the right position and continue your training in silence. Or..."

Katherine raised her eyes up from the book and looked at the window. Sam was... well, of course, she didn't have favorite children as is, but Katherine especially pampered and maybe even spoiled him a bit. And now she looked at Sam's tarining witha mixture of tenderness and worry, hoping that Saria wasn't going too harsh on her little darling...

"The threath of the spanking worked and Sam took his begin stance again. It was not that he disliked training or his big sister but he found a bit dull so he played around so now and then. Besides, he loved teasing his siblings, without getting totally mean or rude. But sometimes he went too far."

Saria nodded approvingly, though she still looked a bit irritated. "It's better. Hold it more tight! Good, now aim higher!.."

Katherine decided to check the kids meanwhile. She put the book aside and walked out of the library, going down to get to the garden and watch the training more close...

"Even higher? What are you planning to let me fight? A giant or something?"
