Default The thing about anime-style games

If you use typical RPG Maker assets, your characters are going to be "anime style". In my view, this can change the tone and narrative in a good way. Anime can be serious and realistic, but it's more often the case that anime is just... silly. It's something you can have fun with.

Anime is a medium of Super Saiyans and people dramatically yelling out the names of their attacks. It has training montages and bizarre character archetypes. In other words, it can be completely over the top, and that's OK.

So it stands to reason that the same creative flexibility can be embraced in anime-style games. That's what I love about some of the games people here make. It's about letting go of reality and just letting your imagination run wild.

I hope to see even more awesome content from this forum in the future, and I will be doing my part to contribute as well.

Honestly, I kinda dislike that anime looking assets of new RPG Maker MZ, they look too childish. In my opinion, the assets for MV and VX were better.

So let me preface this by saying I'm not an artist myself so some of what I'm going to say is based on observation not personal experience.

That said, from my perspective the virtue of anime is that it seems like it works out to be a good compromise between realism and talent/skill. Anime that doesn't seem like it requires a great deal of talent/skill to create looks better than a lot of other art forms at an equivalent level of talent/skill.

That's not to say that there isn't really beautiful anime that DOES clearly require greater skill, I'm just saying that it seems like for low to middle tier artwork the anime style seems like it almost always looks better than other styles.
