Ash Ketchum, and his best friend Rodrigo, were having a sleepover. They had recently celebrated their tenth birthday, and the following day, was the day that they and three other trainers, would start their pokémon journey. At the moment, Ash and Rodrigo were watching a pokémon battle, between a Gengar and a Nidorino, on TV.

"Gengar's totally gonna win" said Ash, watching eagerly.

"Yeah,well,there's not many moves Nidorino can use that would hurt Gengar..." smiled Rodrigo.

"Yeah, I know" said Ash, nodding.

When Gengar used Hypnosis...making Nidorino fall asleep...Ash chuckled, as he was recalled.

"I knew it" he said, watching as the trainer then sent out Onix, to battle Gengar.

"That won't work" said Ash, "Gengar can fly."

He turned, when the door opened, and smiled.

"Oh hey Mom" he said.

"What are you two doing up?" she asked, sternly, "Do you know what time it is?"

"Aw Mom, we can't sleep" said Ash, "We start are pokémon journey, tomorrow."

"No, you need your sleep" said Delia, grabbing the remote, and changing to a show, about the new pokémon, "If you must stay up, watch this. But go to sleep, as soon as it's over."

"Ok" said Ash, watching the show, eagerly.

Delia left, and the boys continued to watch the show, in which Professor Oak described the three starter pokémon, trainers got to choose from.

(You know...I never quite understood something. Each new trainer, gets to pick from Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. So if there are four trainers, about to start their journey, you'd think that Oak would have four of each starter pokémon. I know they had to make it, so Ash would get Pikachu, but still...)

(Yeah,now that you mention it,Ash got lucky Oak had that Pikachu around.)
