Default CYOA or AI-Character?

Hey everyone,
This threat is just to get kind of a feel where this community is at about this topic.

I got into spanking novels lately and quite enjoyed them, but an interactive part in such a story makes them much more fun. CYOA-"games" like "aka"'s "victormammoth"'s stuff are really fun to experience. But currently the most I hear about texted based content is all about AI and personilized interactive characters.
It feels like these CYOAs are a niche in an already niche field. I just want to figure out if there not more of them because of missing demand or because not many people create them.
So, for those of you who like "text-adventures" is there a demand for CYOA-stories or are you prefering AI-sites to interact with?

Thanks for the input.

I strongly prefer CYOA (or whatever Victor does is classified as) over the AI stuff, like character.ai.
While I do somewhat enjoy messing around on there, most of the time it breaks itself
If it was hella refined, and actually allowed NSFW content, i think it would be a lot better.
When using the AI stuff like character.ai, i found on longer stories, it starts to break and saying random stuff that doesnt match the time period or theme of the story I'm trying to play through.
Granted, i mostly use the "World of Punishments" story that was posted here awhile back.

I do wish more people did their own stuff like Victor does, but i do understand some people don't like pure text-based games. One of my favorite games that "kinda" follows the text based genre is Strive:Conquest. I go back and replay this game a LOT because it has so much content in it.
If people added their own custom art into Text-based games, then maybe there would be more people interested, but i dunno. I'm not talking about that whole "real people/porn star pictures" either. That shit is boring and lame af.

Hopefully this helps a little bit . I play every single Text based game i come across, and the majority of them i like.

Edit: also i have to put in here, aka's scarlett moon is 10/10 <3

AI is fun, but CYOS is more fun as you have an human writer that usually doesn't need to be retraining every few minutes lol!

I mean, I vastly prefer CYOA to AI, but when your preferences are very specific, it's hard to find particular ones that scratch that itch, so to speak. That said, shoutout to Akas Scarlet Moon story, fantastic. Otherwise as someone who enjoys playing as female spanked with predominantly male spankers, the pickings are slim. Often then AI becomes the mire easily accessible option, stick your own parameters in, give it some lines if hard truth/facts and iff you go. Something is sometimes better than nothing

To answer the poll: both!

Honestly I think you should choose in the end, but personally I prefer AI characters due to how many different paths and scenarios it can take

i tend to like CYOA more but its kind of hard to find a good one (outside of this site), i remember following one based on lilo and stitch but the language got butchered suddenly, like if it was taken by someone who not only didnt know english but refused to use a translator.
i still enjoy the AI from time to time but the stories have to be really short for the AI to rember what they did or said

@sora666: I got similar experiences with AI. I tried a few different ones, but I can't get over the feel of a tech demo, it doesn't feel like a story being told, at least not for me.
Thanks for tip about Strive:Conquest, I will look into it, it doesn't stood out to me because it wasn't tagged with "spanking" at least not where I came across it.
It helps quite a bit, so thanks again.

@Melissa72 I'm with you on that one, you follow a vision and not feed yours constantly into one lol

@errevi I certainly get that, I'm into male perspective M/F and F/F stories and it's hard enough to find something in that category, I can imagine it gets even harder if it gets more specific.

@Krypt66 Interesting perspective. In my case it wouldn't be an either/or I don't really have interest in setting up AI-Characters because I'm not a fan of it myself. I just want to test the waters not that I make something only for myself lol

@ULPI Finding stuff worth reading/playing is probably a problem we all share in here.

Thanks again for the resposes.

I've always liked these kind of conversations.

If I can add my two cents, my feelings towards AI characters are pretty much the same along the lines of AI art or AI anything that requires creative imagination. AI is a great fundamental tool that has come so far and will only improve with time, but at the end of the day it will always be a tool, one that can only help you walk down an already beaten path.

I never considered myself an intellectual. I don't think I could give you a dissertation on the depth and passions of Shakespeare and Hemmingway, but thanks to AI, I think I can finally say I know what someone means when they say something like "This artwork doesn't have any soul".

Good stories, good artwork, usually means the creator got a message through to you. They were trying to capture a feeling, a moment, and message, they were trying to tell you something, even if it's something simple or silly. I can look at a picture by Insonia and tell a character is humiliated, or secretly enjoying their punishment. I can tell if the spanker is performing a punishment out care or discipline or if they're just trying to dominate. The expression of the artwork get's the message across so well and it's why I love it so much.

In another sense, I can look at Alt_Cor's work and see what he's trying to say. Something like he wants to depict a no win situation, or he wants to give us a good laugh. He delivers a situation that we can read the room so well.

AI work, it just feels like, it's just there. I can't read into anything and if I do, it feels like I just forced a scenario or thought on it. Don't get me wrong, it can tell a fair story or draw a really nice ass in a spanking picture, I just can't really find anything on the other side to connect to unless the person using the AI adds some kind of personal touch. It wasn't trying to tell me anything, it just did a job it was supposed to do.

Sorry for the ramble. I like to pontificate and pretend I'm smart and nuanced when I just really love to blather on about spankings. Hope there was a useful nugget in there somewhere.

A character in AI is fairly easy to get going, but I wouldn't really call using one a "game." It's more like automated roleplay, or tool-assisted story writing. There aren't any of the things you would expect to see in a game, like a predefined systems of rewards and punishments to discover and master (which can be as simple as "find clues in the text to guide your next choice" which is typically how CYOA's operate).

Don't get me wrong, they can be fun and they're incredibly flexible, and they give you a *lot* more flexibility to define and roleplay a character than games typically will. But I don't think they'll capture the feel of a "game."

So if you're mostly interested in giving people an interesting starting scenario to play around with, go with a character in character.ai or a similar site. If you want a coherent story with coherent characters, and you want players to explore and master a ruleset, go with a game.

I feel they both have their times to shine and it's hard to compare them apples to apples.

Ai can be manipulated, allowing me to control the scene, setting, and results. It has the perk that any character can have any scene type at any time. AI is also a lot more involved, making me think about how to manipulate it to get the desired output as opposed to just enjoying the story.

CYOA is better for two things, lack of control and relaxation. I find CYOA better for more submissive adventures because it can't be manipulated. You make your choice, you accept the consequences kind of akin to real life. With CYOA I can turn off my brain and just enjoy the story. But it has the downside of being limited to the amount of effort that was put in. Where AI can be never ending, CYOA can have limited paths, incomplete story, and unrefined characters that you can't do anything about.

In the end it's the difference between reading a story and writing one.
