The shrill shriek of the alarm clock died off.

10-year-old Lucas Diamond pulled his hand back from the alarm and continued his morning routine. Lucas had woken up an entire hour ahead of his alarm clock and chose to get a headstart on the most important day of his young life. Or was trying to. If only Lucas could pick what to wear. A plethora of outfits were already discarded on the floor. Currently, Lucas was in a black vest, a short-sleeved white undershirt, and blue pants, complimented by a red hat and red scarf.

Lucas stared hard at himself in the mirror, mentally evaluating the outfit. Was this really the one Lucas wanted to wear for his debut as a trainer? It wouldn’t be feasible to come back to the house for new clothes, not when he was miles and miles away, exploring caves and challenging gyms in cities on the other side of the region.

“Mmm…” Lucas hummed. He spared one last glance at the outfits on the floor. Pikachu hoodies, cyberpunk outfits, winter clothes. “This will do.” Lucas decided.

Lucas grabbed his pack, which was packed to perfection after hours watching tutorials on SerebiiTube, and headed downstairs. Lucas enjoyed an animated breakfast with his parents, talking with his parents about his plans and dreams for his journey. Who he wanted to start with, who he wanted to catch, etc. Lucas' parents smiled the whole time, encouraging Lucas to do his best.

“Don’t forget to call!” Lucas’ mother reminded him as he left.

“I won’t! Love you!” Lucas said, waving goodbye to his parents.

Lucas practically sprinted to the lab, which wasn’t far at all. Lucas was born and raised in Sandgem Town, after all. As it turned out, though, Lucas was early. Professor Rowan hadn’t even arrived. Instead, it was just the Professor’s staff, who were feeding the three starters.

“You can sit here. Professor Rowan should be here any minute.” A researcher said, guiding him to a little lounge area in the corner of the lab.

Lucas obediently sat down, staring across the room with stars in his eyes at the three starters, who were merrily eating their breakfasts. Lucas had no idea who he wanted to choose. Piplup, Turtwig, and Chimchar would all make amazing partners!
So Lucas sat there, eyeing the Pokemon with unconcealed anticipation and excitement, as he waited.

Meanwhile, at the same time in Twinleaf Town, a certain girl was awoken by the ringing of her Starly clock before hitting the snooze button.

Slowly getting out of bed, Dawn Berlitz rubs her drowsiness out of her eyes before walking over to the window to let some air in.

A short time later, she is having breakfast with her mother Johanna.

"I hope you finished packing." she said as she handed Dawn a cup of coffee.

"Did it all yesterday." Dawn proudly said, sipping on the drink.

"So, have you decided which of those three Pokemon you're going to pick?"

"Not yet. They're all so cute! Thing is, I'm sure any of them would make an awesome partner. I've gotta be smart through if I wanna be a Top Coordinator like you mom." Dawn fantasizes as she looks at the wall, on which many pictures of Johanna in her days as a Coordinator hung, along with several trophies.

Soon enough, Dawn walked outside, "Well, see you soon, mom!" she called out as she skipped down the porch as mounted her bike. "Off we go!" she cried as she rode off towards Sandgem Town through Route 201.

Soon enough, Dawn was outside of Rowan's lab, her bike parked besides her. Through being new at this, she wasn't sure if she was supposed to just walk in. "Hm, just to be safe...." she said to herself as she knocked on the front door.

As it happens, Dawn passed Professor Rowan on her way to the lab.

The elderly professor walked up behind her.

“No need to knock. The lab is open to everyone.” Professor Rowan said, opening the door and holding it open for Dawn. Professor Rowan continued speaking. “You must be Dawn Berlitz; here to receive your first Pokemon, are you?”

Prof. Rowan recognized Dawn’s appearance from her application.

Of course, Dawn wasn’t the only new trainer set to receive a Starter Pokemon today. Prof. Rowan took a cursory glance around the lab, specifically the guest seating area. He spotted the other new trainer starting today, Lucas Diamond, who had an unflattering expression as he stared at the starters. Hmm, well, Prof. Rowan supposed it was natural to be excited.

“Dawn, Lucas, welcome to my lab. The both of you will be receiving your starter Pokemon, Pokedex, and a set of PokeBalls to start your journey.” Professor Rowan began his introduction, calling out to Lucas and motioning for him and Dawn to follow him to the table where the three starters sat.

Lucas practically teleported, immediately by Professor Rowan’s side.

“Wow, I’m so excited. I know exactly who I want to choose!” Lucas said. His eyes flickered to Piplup.

“Good. Because since you were here, first, you get priority.” Professor Rowan said. It was the fairest way of doing things.

Lucas blinked, turning his head. “Oh, I’m sorry, I was so excited that I didn’t even notice you! I’m Lucas, and I’m a new trainer, too.” Lucas said, cheeks turning a little pink not only from embarrassment, but also because the girl was very pretty.

Lucas then hesitated. “I know I arrived before you, but you can pick first.”

“Hmmm? Ladies first, is it? We have quite the gentleman.” Rowan continued, his gaze now resting on Dawn. “Very well. Dawn, since Lucas forfeited his priority, you can pick first. There’s three options. Chimchar, a fire type, Turtwig, a grass type, and Piplup, a water type. All three of them are well-trained and will be invaluable companions on your journey.”

As Rowan introduced the three, each of them had a small self-introduction. Turtwig gave an eye-smile, letting out a gentle but excited hello. Chimchar waved, jumping up and down. And Piplup puffed out his chest, giving out a snooty, self-assured little chirp.

“Do you know who you want to pick?” asked Rowan.

Dawn was a bit taken aback by the Professor, it wasn't that he seemed bad.... just that he had a very 'intense' look to him so up-close, "Ah, y-yeah, I'm here for the Pokemon." she confirmed.

As Dawn walked into the lab, she saw another boy there, probably also there for his Pokemon. She supposed the boy was cute enough. Through as Rowan said she'd be picking second, Dawn gave a small pout before extending a hand out, "Dawn." she greeted in a friendly manner.

"Oh, wow, really.... Thanks!" she cried out as she quickly made her way forward, looking over the three Pokemon.

"Of course....." Dawn said as she confidently closed her eyes "......I choose you....." she said, pointing at the starter of her choice ".......Piplup!".
