Out Too Late (for Ilze09)

Isuzu sat in the overstuffed armchair in the living room, her fatigue showing from the dark circles under her eyes. Where was that boy? Her twelve-year-old brother was out late again, and she had to do something about it. Well...she already had the brush out. She propped herself up for what seemed like the millionth time that night and waited on him to come in. Where could he be, anyways...?

Kai stepped onto his front porch and stretched tiredly. He liked being out late and all but it certaintly did take it's toll on the boy. He felt like he would surely pass out at any moment. He was lucky that his parents were out of town though or he would probably get grounded for all his late nights. He was thankful the only person home was his elder sister. It's not like she could do anything to him, she really didnt have any control over his actions.

Tiredly, the boy turned and doorknob and stepped into the living room. He squinted and noticed Isuzu sitting in the chair, seemingly waiting for him. He rolled his eyes, "Can't sleep?" He asked her casually.

Ignoring his question, Isuzu blinked several times. "Oh, I would love to, little brother, but you've stayed out until midnight, and I've had to stay up all night worrying! Where were you?!"

The late news yapped on the TV. Isuzu muted it. "I guess I've just been too soft with you lately..."

He rolled his eyes once more, "Can we talk about this tomorrow? I'm beat." He said with a yawn, starting for the stairs.

"No, come back here!" Isuzu smacked her palm on the end table so hard her glass of hot milk tipped over and poured onto the linoleum. "You kept me up at all hours, so I'll return the favor..."

Kai looked back at her, raising an eyebrow at his sister's strange reaction. He stopped halfway up the stairs, "What the hell is your problem?"
