Default If you want NEW spankings art....

Instead of writing dozens of comments for a CG set pic, or a page out of a commercial comic, i sugguest writing one for an artist who does this for free, for fun, and put alotta effort into making great pics for the rest of us to enjoy.
I see alot of great artists in our genre who are under-appreciated. The people who made the CG's and doujinshi's wont see the comments and wont be inspired to make more spanking art. But the artists dedicated to this site will...

Check out :
CC, CM Zero, El mantonegro, Small mew, Dave B, Oscar, SpaSpica(same as Ai?)and one of my favorite new artists : SP Anka. and TONS more.

Just throwing out a sugguestion, i see alot of great pics by these guys that go overlooked.... Adding Favorites and Ratings is great, but feedback is always the best way to encourage artists to draw new stuff.(and i def wanna see new stuff by SP Anka, CC, and CM Zero)

If this post is irrelavant, than feel free to delete it.

And Lurkers....PUT FORTH SOME EFFORT!
i see pics with over 800 views with only 10 comments...

I must agree - we should always comment on pictures we like especially from artists that are actually seeing these comments - but only if we really do. Dishonest comments are a plague.

However, one thing: Some of the people who "viewed" a picture don't like it. For example they might not have seen the thumbnail right, didn't like the concept or pairing, and whatnot. Others view twice. 800 views doesn't mean 800 people looking at the picture and liking it.

This Is The Post For The Artists And Writers:

Agreed! After all, who wouldn't? Even so, I have to give the same caveats I always do when this topic comes up.

First--and this is really the most important one--is that you have to remember the demographics here... We've got 21,000 members. Out of all of them, maybe--maybe--200 or so are what I would describe as "active members;" People who comment on art, post on the forums, etc. This isn't ideal, but it's like raging against the ocean for being wet. The promotions system we have in place for moving people from probationary to full member status is the best we can do to encourage more lurkers to contribute. The vast majority of our members are silent lurkers, and they always will be. Nature of the beast.

That might sound discouraging, but it's really not meant to be... Every site on the internet has the same issue, you know? We aren't any worse or better at it on AOTK.

The flipside of this is what kind of comments you want. To all the artists out there, would it actually be more meaningful for you to see a bunch of lurkers posting 'ur art iz gud' instead of favorite-ing your work, or rating it a 10?

That's not a rhetorical question, I really want to hear your opinion. Because the truth is that I'm reluctant to comment unless I actually have something to say. Maybe not something deep--in fact, probably not something deep :P--but hopefully more than "Nice work! " For that matter, the sheer amount of art uploaded to the site makes coming up with a comment for every worthwhile picture intimidating, to say the least.

There are ways around this, of course. I have sometimes taken the time to contact an artist via PM or AIM to let them know I enjoy their work, and I would hope that's enough to make up for letting a few pictures pass without comment.

Dave Bishop isn't a site member; neither is Ai, so far as I know. El mantonegro is a site member, but hasn't posted in months due to RL business. CM Zero is on hiatus for similar reasons. Attention spans on the web being what they are, I'm afraid neither is likely to get many new comments simply because gallery traffic atrophies pretty quick without regular updates. But does anyone doubt those two are well-liked and popular artists among the active members?

You're perfectly justified in wanting people to comment, but I honestly think 'popularity' on this site is more nebulous than that.

...And although this post was about art, I have to throw in an additional word about commenting on stories. It is easier to find good spanking stories on the web than it is to find good spanking art. If you're wondering why your story isn't getting any hits or comments, I'll warn you now that one of the big reasons is that the competition is much fiercer. If you don't believe me, I invite you to compare the respective lists on the wiki: http://spankingartwiki.animeotk.com/...spanking_sites

I have to disagree.

Quite frankly, such hostility toward folks who choose not to post much (and from a moderator no less) doesn't really encourage me to contribute anything to the site.

I agree, though there are always lurkers in sites... you can't expect many more comments simply because you highlight it in such a fashion. ;3

I think new, budding artists would really benefit from a little verbal encouragement by ways of comments (though what Macha said is very true, also), not only those who know that they are able to draw. Artists draw what they like, yes, and would probably still post despite the fact that they get few comments (a good thing that quite a few of the key artists post elsewhere). Although, it does get discouraging sometimes when you get very few comments, speaking from intimate experience - often you get disillustioned - questioning whether it's your art, or you that does not warrant them. I just reason that it's WHAT I'm drawing that gets me overlooked rather than my ability. At least I HOPE so. ;3 (On that note, thanks for the mention, too, Congolike. X_x; )

A well-meaning and novel suggestion, but I'm not sure if it'll help in the long run. History repeats itself, and all that.

Quite frankly, your post count already puts you ahead of about 10,000 other members. None of whom care about what I write on the forums, because they don't give this part of the site a second thought. So be it, then; there's no holy obligation for them to comment. The site's certainly worked well enough so far. However, if you want to see more of Artist X's work, you should probably encourage them to post it, no?

What I said was no more 'hostile' than gravity is to a man falling off a cliff.

I dunno man, gravity'll kill ya. Everyone always tends to place blame on the guy that pushed, but never the force that made him fall.

But seriously though, guys. Comments are like cocaine. You get one, you kinda want to get a lot more. It's almost a driving force.
