Jonathan Brighton knew he was smart. Very smart. He had always gotten top grades in his class and even had been skipped ahead two grades so he was in a class of twelve and thirteen year olds, despite the fact he was ten.

He walked home alone- as always, he wasn't very popular- with three books from the school library and lots of extra homework that he'd actually asked for. He went into his house and wondered if only his sister would be home. He hoped not, he was annoyed by her, 'averageness' as he called it.

Jonathan sighed and took off his bag, it was too heavy for him really and sometimes gave him backpain. He opened it up and took out his books and homework, ready to start them straight away.

"Going to say "Hello"?" Katherine Brighton asked. Nobody called her that though, Katie was fine. "What's with all the books? More volentary homework I presume?" she reasoned. ~He isn't ever going to be socially accepted if he keeps his smart act up.~ she thought to herself, smiling from behind the railing on the second floor.

Jonathan rolled his eyes, not even bothering to answer her enquiries or greet her. He just flopped on the sofa. Claiming the living room as his, if she entered she'd be assaulted by a maths textbook. He started to work on some ionic equations. Wondering what kind of trashy magazine his sister would be reading. And when their parents would be home. He sighed and solved the equations quickly, ready to start his maths. It was algebra, expanding brackets, he knew it was odd, but he really enjoyed that topic. Jonathan loved this, alone in a rather comfortable room with lots of figures. No sister bugging him and no parents trying to coddle him.

A few minutes later, after reading through a few magazines, whatever she could find in their parent's room, she came downstairs. Brushing some hair out of her face she slowly "barged" into the living room.

The moment her foot passed the living room door a maths textbook came flying at her, hitting her on the forehead. Then dropping to the floor with a smack. Jonathan didn't say anything but glared at her, as if she'd just thrown a textbook at him. He stared at the textbook on the floor and then at her, expecting her to pick it up and give it back to him.

His ginger hair was messy as usual, and parts of it stuck on end even though he didn't use any gel. His eyes were narrowed, as he was glaring.

Katie was caught off-guard by the text-book and backed a bit when it hit her, frowning greatly she stopped.

Katie glared back just as strongly, making a considerable effort to look frightening as she walked up to her little brother. "Apologize, now!" she demanded, still glaring into his glare.

[Said]

"Give me my textbook back." He replied. Those were the first words he'd said to her that day. And he said them completely flatly. He even held out his hand expectantly.

Katie made no effort to pick up the book, in fact she just left it there as she glared at her brother, a glare she kept as she attempted to avoid snapping, "I've been reading some interesting magazines..." she started, now with her hands on her hips in front of the boy, but out of arms reach.

Jonathan stared at his big sister, noting the dominant body language. It pissed him off. "Really? Interesting? About how to attract boys in 30 seconds, cut down your waist size by 1 inch in 1 week? Which celebraties are seeing which pro wrestlers?" He asked, sarcasm dripping from his voice.

"Oh hell no." she said, emphasizing "hell", as she had not sworn before. Sure she was sarcastic all the time, but their parents taught them not to swear, not even "damned". "I have been reading parenting magazines." she said, allowing herself a small smile as she waited for him to figure it out, if he would figure it out. Somehow she doubted he would.
