Sanguine ties (for Little Sayuri)

Isaac strolled a few paces behind his sister, eyes fixing on her as though she might fade away to smoke given a moment's inattention. He wasn't afraid of her becoming lost or even of assault, as a matter of fact he didn't doubt that whatever poor soul made the attempt would find themselves in pieces in short order. No, the matter that concerned him was that she would be known for what she was, what they were.

"Alex, don't you want to go home yet? It's getting late." He said softly, eyes flicking upwards to the sun uncomfertably. It was good to be seen out in the light of day from time to time, no matter how the goverment lackies tried to educate the people where was always that lingering suspicion that their kind would turn to ash and bone at it's meerest glance. Still, there was a lingering feeling that he should be resting now, waiting for his propper time to come when the world went dark and became his domain once more.

As his pace picked up to catch up with his wandering sibling the tight black braid began to sway and bob against his back, tapping out a little rhythm to match his heavy footsteps.

Alexandra turned around to her brother, her lightblue eyes sparkled as she smiled. "Come on brother, it's a wonderful day!", she said in a good mood and giggled before she turned back to watch where she was going.

She was looking around for some places to hide or to burry things if someone would find out what she was.
It was necessary to know these things, in times like this.

The government didn’t show mercy with the immortals also called vampires these days, killing them one by one (because they were too ‘dangerous’ and a ‘risk’ for the association), and Alex, being one of them, started to fight against it, together with her big brother Isaac.

Fortunately, the humans wasn’t able to see the difference between a immortal and a normal human, so all the immortals had to do was to act like the humans, by getting a job and not acting up. It was sure a safe way not to get caught, but not the way that Alex wanted to walk. She sighed. In moments like this one she wondered why she was doing all these things. She could have a safe life out here, if she would just stick to the status quo, but that was exactly the problem for her and so there was no other choice than the one for the ‘other side’, even if it was much more work for much less results.

Alexa watched some birds in the sky and smiled. Everytime she started thinking about these things, she distracted herself, as if she wanted to protect herself from the knowledge of what dark times they had.

"Slow down, the next street isn't going anywhere and one you don't see today will still be there tomarow. Patience, it's why we're still around." Isaac drawled in a soft lecturing tone. With their very lives foreit should they be discovered that patience has been invaluable.

He'd always looked after her, as much as their parents had dispite his youth. Barely a man and he was trying to watch over a girl who would be a woman in a few scant years herself. Of course it was a welcome burdon as it had means more time spent in the presence of his darling sister, the light of his life. It was with her that the thoughts of oppression and deciet lost their meanings, where he could become just another devoted brother on a long and peaceful walk with his dearest sister.

He had no idea what was going through her mind, as far as he was concerned she'd stopped ageing some time ago and was still the sweet little thing who barely came up to his knees. The idea that she'd been thinking of their situation, even planning out what to do about it was laughable if not complete madness. "I promise I'll come out with you again tomarow if you're not satisfied, alright?" He added, seeking to placate her wander-lust without letting her run wild.

Alex stopped and turned around again. She looked at her brother, her precious big brother who always cared for her, who was always patient with her and gentle and who would always protect her, no matter what.

A little smile lightened up her face as she thought about that. Isaac was indeed a good big brother, and even if he was the gentle type, he could also be strict, which was okay, Alex thought.

She knew that she could be a handful sometimes, and that her brother didn't like punishing her, but he loved her and sometimes had to, and she knew that. She also tried to be patient with him sometimes, not pushing her luck too far, but she also wanted to test how far she could go of course.

The girl went to her brother and nodded. "Okay...", she said, slightly disappointed. "Can I go and watch the sunset later?", she asked with puppy eyes.

Isaac mutterd softly under his breath, her requests were always innocent enough but there was often the little tinge of difficulty added by their nature. It wasn't as though there was some grand curfew for the general populace but there was an unspoken understanding. Though the same superstitions that caused those who avoided the sun to become suspect, those who were out late at night just a little too often would find themselves with just a little too much attention.

He had no intention of keeping her locked up at night, but he didn't want her rushing about and makeing a show of herself. The night was their time of course and though it made little difference in their bodies there was a tiny voice in their minds that told them it was time to be up, to go and play while the silly mortals were still asleep in their beds. It was rather simple to ignore most often, but he occasionaly found himself walking just a little too fast or speaking with just a bit too much agression. "Fine" He said finaly after long deliberation. "But you've got to be home as soon as it finishes going down, do we have a deal?"

Alex waited for her brother to answer, getting even more nervous by every second that he didn't answer. "He'll not allow me to go out tonight...", she thought sadly and prepared for a 'no' from her brother.

She watched him and could see that he fought in his thoughts what to do. As he told her to come home after the sun was down, she nodded, really happy about his decision. "Yes of course, I promise! We have a deal! Oh thank you!", she cheered happily and hugged her big brother tightly, happy to be here with him.

Isaac squeezed her tightly in return, basking in the warmth of her reaction. It was so wonderful to have these moments where somthing as small as a walk could bring her such joy. "It's fine, it's fine. There isn't any good reason for you not to go is there?" He asked, not expecting her to say anything of the like of course. If there was she would likely keep it to herself, the stuborn thing.

With a drooping brow reluctantly pulled away from his darling sister and cupped her cheek in his hand. Many would have claimed that he was too protective, but in the face of such criticism he could only point to her and inform them that she was still alive and healthy. That they oculd not prove it did not come from his protective nature. That it was, to him atleast, necessary. "Come on, let's go home, i'll put together something for your belly." he said with a tempting tone. It was always difficult to pull away from those sweet moments, as though it might be the last they would share together. But that was just paranoia, he wouldn't allow anything to come between them, not while he still drew breath.

Alexandra shook her head. "Not that I can think of any", she said with a little smile. Of course she could think of some reasons, but she wouldn't tell her brother even one of them, because he wouldn't allow her to go for her walk tonight then. She was always thinking that he was too protective, but she thought it was kind of cute, as long as she got what she wanted though.

The girl nodded. "Okay", she smiled and followed her brother, taking his hand and smiling at him. This day was really beautiful and it seemed like Isaac did start to learn that she wasn't THAT little anymore.

Because she was 13 now, she thought she was grown up, like every girl her age would think, even if she proved often that she wasn't, especially when she got into trouble again for something really stupid.

Alex blocked those thoughts out and continued to follow her brother, really hungry since he mentioned the food.

Isaac squeezed her hand gently as they walked, he took a bit of pride in his stern nature realy. Many claimed to be strict but were meerly sadistic, or worse yet weaklings that bent and swayed with the first -please- they heard. Whenever she'd gotten herself into trouble he'd dealt with it patiently and calmly before turning to deal with her, never jumping strait to discipline though never straying from it when he'd found it to be truly necessary.

He was on the cusp of adulthood, just getting ready to leave the teens behind him and accept that his world would simply not be carefree for quite some time. But he was alright with that, he'd known responsibility for long enough with his sister that a few more tasks and concerns would be trivial realy.

Looking down to her he gives the tiniest nod of aproval, glad that she was seemed to be thinking clearly and takeing the path of elast danger for once. The warm sun was a blessing, a gentle breeze the faint scent of meals being prepared in the surrounding homes reminded him of just how wonderful and tranquil things could be for them if they only played their cards right.

"How much do you think you'll need today sugar-cheeks?" He said, glancing to her with thoughts of their coming meal. He didn't used to ask her, he'd always make sure she had a little more than she truly needed out of concern for her being meek or modest. Somthing that he'd learned wasn't likely, but atleast he now knew he could trust her with such decisions.

Alex thought about that. "I'm really hungry, I think I'll need quite a bit", she said and smiled. She knew that her brother would give her what she wanted, making sure she would have enough. She trusted him and knew that he knew how much was enough if she said things like that by now.

Thinking of the food and the sunset which she would be able to see later on took her into an even better mood then she was already. Today would be wonderful, just wonderful! She would try not to get into trouble today, to make her brother and of course herself proud and happy, and to not ruin this peaceful day.

"Maybe I could ask him to watch the stars for a bit...maybe he wanted to join me...I should ask him...", she thought and cocked her head without noticing it really.
