Birthday Spankings
Before I start, this isn't a plug for my birthday, but I know in the US you have birthday spankings, one for each year of your life and one to grow on, but don't know much about them.
Are they real spankings, or playful? Are they smacks delivered properly etc, and does anyone get them now they're pver 18?
I have had birthday canings, where I asked a spanking friend of mine to give me one stoke per year, with no warm up spanking. I think the last we did it was when I was 30, I am due 36 now.
I love the idea of these spankings and wish we in the UK did it, is it the just US that does?

I am from the US but I have never been spanked for my birthday (kinda wish I had T_T) but what little I have seen it is just playful. Actually we I was in elementary school when it was a kid's birthday the teachers would turn the kid around and light playful swats and never forgetting that one for good luck

Got no juicy birthday spanking stories, I'm afraid, but I got my birthday spanks from my sister on my last birhtday, and I turned 19. I dunno if that means that any other people get it past 18, since I don't think sis is ever going to think of me as an adult. That's big sisters for you.

Can't say anything new, Macha already said it.
Is it SO common in the US? I've never seen it in an American show or movie nor read it in a book.
(Well, but they don't show cp at schools in America in movies and shows nowadays, too)

It's well-known enough that if you mention a 'birthday spanking', people will at least know what you're talking about. Birthday punches are more common nowadays though (at least with guys). I've only seen a spanking happen once or twice. Once was in gym class in elementary school. One of the coach's took a birthday boy over their lap, and playfully swatted the seat of his shorts, heh. And of course, they added the "one to grow on".
If you mention birthday spanks around the 'victim' and a group of their friends, there'll probably be at least some friendly teasing to follow.

A birthday spanking was a tradition for me, growing up as I did on a farm in a rural community. I got them from family members at my birthday party and sometimes from teachers in grade school. Mostly they were innocuous and the purpose was "to be sure you got punished for all the stuff you did in the last year that nobody found out about!"
My boy cousin carried on that tradition, or tried to (when I was cooperative!) until I was fifteen. That's another story.
Birthday spankings are still a tradition for me, but now they're erotic! Would you think that a girl could have five or six birthdays a year???

According to spankophilia folklore, a traditional birthday spanking is a real spanking, delivering one swat for each year of life, plus "one to grow on" or "one for luck", sometimes accompanied by a pinch "to grow an inch." The idea behind it is that the spanking will account for any wrongdoings of the previous year you were never caught for, and can start of the new year on a clean slate.
But giving a kid a real spanking on his or her birthday is pretty darn cruel, so mostly it's just done for fun or teasing. The swats are just gentle taps, so it's symbolic of a real spanking and still has that cleansing meaning. "birthday spanks" are in general assumed not to cause pain.
Happening on adults, it's purely for the eroticism, or just innocent humiliation.

Umm birthday spankings that I have seen and or participated where all play spanks. (well save for occationaly the one to grow on would be a zinger though) This it was not part of my families traditions.
According to Peter Berresford Ellis' non-fiction work The Celtic Empire, Birthday spanking originated with the Celtic practice of birthday spankings as a preventive measure to protect the child from evil spirits for the following year.
the concept of birthday spankings being a punishment, well, I think it comes from mixing it up with "maintenance spanking"

Coo, I find that interesting... does it define WHAT the punishment is? I mean, The celts were more civilised than they're sometimes given credit for... but not exactly gentle folk.
I'd be suprised if it was an Otk hand spanking.
