Morbid's Unexpected Fan (For Barbossasdaughter)

Morbid leans over the edge of the building's parapet, his cold eyes scanning the city beneath him with calculating glances. Years ago, when he was still called Kinetico, he would be doing this as part of his nightly patrols, constantly watching for signs of criminal activity. Since the death of his girlfriend... well, the girlfriend of his alter ego, Eric Kroger... as well as his subsequent murder of her killer, a former archenemy of his, he now patrols for those unfortunate souls that he will reap tonight for the sheer sake of enjoyment. There are more deaths on his hands than he would care to count, though he has tried on a couple of times, just to see how he rates.


He wears a far less prismatic suit than he did in his superhero days. The pitch black skinsuit carries no insignia except for the skulls worn on his chest, shoulders and cowl. As he glances down, his eyes wander over a pair of lovers in Pinnacle Park, a favorite place for hormonal teens to hide out with their dates. His gaze follows them into the darkness until his vision no longer registers them. At that point, his internal sense takes over, and he can feel the kinetic energy flowing through their bodies as they pull away each others' clothes in the bushes. Morbid starts to lean over a bit further, waiting for the right moment to slip off and pursue his prey. With their attention diverted, it would take mere seconds for him to swoop in and cut their young lives short in a frenzied moment of carnage.

Sandy was in the park as well, she was a young girl aged 12. It was no safe place for a kid her age but she was an orphan and sneaked out like every night to look for a certain someone.

She had shoulderlong brown hair, blue grey eyes, wore jeans and a T-Shirt. She was a bit little for her age and she had some special abilities. She was able to manipulate ice and fire, but she could not control it and so it just worked sometimes.

While others admired the superheroes and costumed vigilantes of the city, Sandy was an admirer of Morbid's work. She collected everything that had to do with him and tried to follow him at night. She met him now and then and bugged him to take her as a sidekick.

Within moments, the deed is done, and Morbid stands amidst the presence of death and drinks in its succulent aroma. When his girlfriend was killed, something snapped inside of him, and his immediate reaction was to track down his nemesis and return the favor. Normally, his morals would prevent him from killing, but the loss of his beloved pushed him to a point that he actually enjoyed the feeling of snapping Red Bull's neck. After that, with two deaths on his hands and mind, he became obsessed with death and the macabre. He is a super-powered serial killer, and only a few in the city could stand against him. Sure, the Stalwart would be able to stop him, at least for a little while, but the city's premier super group was too engrossed with global crises to noticed an adversary that only caused the death of one or two people each night. Well, there was that one time with the Ferris wheel, but that was a rare opportunity that was just too good for him to pass up. Some of the unorganized heroes stood up to him, though, including a very memorable battle with the magnetic manipulator, Chain. The battle had been titanic, but had still only resulted in a draw. Thus, Morbid went on to continue his spree.


For tonight, though, his thirst has been sated. He'll be able to go home and rest. If he's lucky, he'll get there before his new girlfriend, Scarlet, goes out for her own nightly hunt. Unlike him, though, she does so out of necessity, as she is a vampire. Her thoughts on killing also vastly differ from his, as she does not enjoy it, and tries to avoid it when possible. Even when she must feed, she tries to eat from criminals and the waste of humanity, and the guilt still consumes her. He forgives her morality, though, because he's so fascinated by her condition. The thought that he gets into bed with the living dead gives him that extra perk for better lovemaking, as well.

Sandy strolled around and noticed a big figure near a bush. Two bloody corpses beneath it. She smiled. She was no ordinary child as she liked the macaber and that often grossed out her peers and the staff of the orphanage.

As she recognized Morbid she stormed to him. "Sir! Sir! I seeked ya!" she stood before him and looked down. "Uh, nice work. I improved my powers...a bit...I managed to set some girl´s hair on fire! She pissed me really of and I thought about..and then it happened! You have to take me as your sidekick!" she tugged on his leg.

In that second, the moment is lost, and all of the sweet ambiance is wasted by the sound of a grating child's voice. Thinking that he would recognize the source, Morbid looks down and sees that annoying child that has been following him around, apparently having better detective skills than any of the city's superheroes. Truth be told, he doesn't understand why he hasn't simply killed her and put her out of his misery, but something about her obsession must appeal to him.


“Child, what are you going on about now? Do you honestly think that setting some girl's hair on fire qualifies you as the likes of me? Your powers are still in their infancy, as is your villainy. Look around you. Does this look like a comic book to you? This is real!”


He slams his foot down on the dirt, sending a kinetic forcewave cascading through the ground. As it passes, trees sway with it until the shock dissipates several hundred feel from his position. To someone standing right next to him, though, the earth would almost explode under their feet.


“Maybe, in ten or twenty years, you'll have enough power to compare. Right now, though, your powers barely rate as annoying.”


He looks down at the child, snorting wickedly.


“Go home, child. Lie down in your safe bed and pray that the monsters don't come for you tonight.”

Sandy felt the wave and was swept of her feet. "Ouch!" she looked up and rubbed her head. She growled. "I may be a child and my powers may be not as good as yours but you could train me and show me how I harness them!" she stood up. "I won´t go back. The orphanage is a home for babies, no one understands me there." as he mentioned the monsters she snorted. "I don´t fear them."

She had to impress him and that only could be done if she used her powers. She concentrated and and was able to sent a wave of little frosted daggers out to him.

Morbid eyes the daggers as they fly at him, stopping rigidly as they make contact with his body. They hang there, suspended in the air with only their tip touching against him as if they'd been glued in place. In truth, his body had simply reacted to the threat by absorbing the kinetic energy that the daggers carried in them. As he takes a step back, the daggers then fall weakly to the ground. While he can realize that she will someday have an impressive power, it takes more than that to impress him.


“Look, kid, you're just not getting this. Take a moment and think about my powers, and then think about what I spend my time doing. Does it look, in any way, that I need any help with it, or that I need a cheerleader on the sidelines to root me on? Do you even realize why villains don't have sidekicks to begin with? It's because we don't want to have to protect someone who's supposed to be helping us. You ever see what happens to heroes with sidekicks? They spend the majority of their time rescuing the kid from whatever nemesis is after them on any given week. Why would I want to complicate my life with something like that?”

Sandy cursed. She knew it was no match for him. "I want to follow you sir, I want to learn to get stronger. You have to take me in, as an apprentice!" She growled and raised her fist. "I am not a lap dog like those little children following pathetic wanna be heroes. I have powers." she said. "I won´t give up and will follow you again and become stronger...and one day I might beat you and then you´re sorry you didn´t take me in!" she said and tried again, shooting a heatwave at him, but it was not strong

“Watch your language with me, young lady.”


It is odd that Morbid even would care about the child using cuss words, but there is not always rationality behind the things that he does. After all, he's killed people simply for being too happy around him, and yet he has never hurt the little girl that continues to bug him each week about letting her hang out with him. Obviously, something about Sandy must appeal to him, or at least to some part of his psyche that he doesn't openly admit to.


“Look, you have spirit, kid, but you wouldn't last five minutes following me around. You'll be carried off by the first hero that sets eyes on you, with me or without me. Even if I trained you, you wouldn't be by my side every minute of every day. Just being seen with me, though, is enough for the heroes to target you.”


When the wave of thermal energy approaches him, he simply stands there with his arms crossed over his chest. His powers aren't able to stop other forms of energy besides kinetic, so he would be a sitting duck for such powers if he's caught off guard. Standing right in front of him, though, is not the ideal position for a sneak attack. Rather than trying to avoid the blast, he absorbs the kinetic energy from the air surrounding him, effectively creating an invisible wall that deflects the blast away from him. Once it passes, he releases the forcefield and moves up to the girl, picking her up by the neck of her shirt.


“Child, my patience is growing thin.”

Sandy growled and struggled. If he was going to kill her she would not give up without a fight. " screw you! If you don't take me in I don't have to listen to you!" she punched around with her little fists. She looked up to him with her grey blue eyes. She was determinate.
