Tail of a Mischievous Fox {for Midnight Snack}

The life of a kitsune was long...and infinitely boring at times.

The problem with living so long was that soon you became bored with everything there was to do and had to find new ways to amuse yourself. Such was the case for a white kitsune who went by the name of Kieran and in his case the hobby that he found to keep himself occupied was thievery. It wasn't even really that he needed the things that he stole either, it was more that he just needed something to stimulate his mind and that was what he had found.

There was also a measure of arrogance involved.

Kieran did these things simply to prove that he could, that he was smarter than those that he was stealing from.

As the moonlight cast shadows upon the ground another shadow moved across the grounds of the elaborate estate, a figure cloaked in black producing said shadow. White ears poked through disheveled hair of the same hue and a fluffy white tail waved behind the lithe figure as Kieran made his way to the manor. It was a simple enough task to gain entry and once he had the arrogant kitsune immediately made his way to the treasury, having already learned where it was located.

Once there picking the lock was another simple matter and Kieran actually chuckled as the door slid open. "Pitifully easy..." the kitsune muttered to himself, his lavender eyes shifting around as he stepped into the treasury. "Now what shall my reward be?"

[Midnight Snack]

"I was thinking about that myself." A voice slipped from the shadows by the door. A tall man stepped from his hiding place, and with a wave of his hand set intricate magic designs that had been etched onto the floor and ceiling to glowing.

"I could ask for anything after catching the infamous thief!" The hood of his heavy cloak fell back, revealing copper hair and wide green eyes. He looked human, but not very old at all.

The sigils were glowing brighter and brighter, then suddenly all rushed at the trapped kitsune at once. There was a blinding, pale blue light, that caused even the magic's caster to look away.

When the light finally cleared, Riad stood with his hands on his hips, staring hotly at where the fox thief had been stood. He did not look pleased. This....this was not what he had been expecting to happen. Not even a little.

To say that Kieran was surprised to hear the voice of another would have been an understatement to say the least, the kitsune whirling around to look at the source. He stared at the figure as it moved forward and when the hood was lowered, he was completely shocked to see that the one that had discovered him looked human.

No, no that was just impossible, there was no way that he was going to be caught by a human.

Even as he watched the sigils start to glow Kieran's mind was whirling with thoughts of how he was going to get out of this. Raising his hand he started to summon his powers, which ironically enough were ice based rather than the typical foxfire, but before he got the chance he was suddenly surrounded.

A yelp actually escaped the lips of the fox and as the blinding light started to fade he looked at himself and then issued a louder and higher pitched squeak.

"Wh-what the... what have you done?!" the kitsune exclaimed.

Riad crouched, putting one hand to his chin. Already his mind was turning over the 'problem'. His spells had been designed to strip the fox of his powers. Render him weak and helpless. In a way, it had succeeded.

"I've caught one of the greatest sneak thieves in history." He chuckled. "After a fashion." The kitsune was sitting in a pile of his clothes, all of which had become much too big for him all of a sudden. He was cute as a button, though. Even if he was still a dirty thief.

The sound of many heavy boots tromped down the hall, and the treasury door was thrown open. Guards poured into the room, weapons drawn. Riad just watched with a roll of his eyes.

"Well aren't you late to the party." He muttered, standing up.

"Sir, His Lordship ordered us to...see how you were doing." The captain stepped to the forefront. He kept looking around, apparently not having noticed the pile of clothes with a young fox in it. Riad knew he was lying.

"You can hurry back to your lord and tell him that I have done it! I have captured the thief!" Riad reached over and grabbed the silver fox by the scruff, lifting him up, not unlike how a hunter would present their bagged prey.

Looking to the man once again, and having to look up much to his chagrin, Kieran pinned his ears against his white hair and growled in as menacing a fashion as he could manage currently. "Change me back! Fix this!" the little thing practically demanded, grabbing for his clothes when he realized that they were way to big for him now and thus were not going to stay on.

His lavender eyes went to the door as he heard the sound of the boots and he growled again when he saw the soldiers that entered. He would have made an attempt to use his powers but unfortunately right now he wasn't even sure if he could.

And he was freaked out to say the least.

Another growl, this one cut short, was issued when his would be captor reached for him. As soon as he was grabbed by the scruff Kieran reflexively ended up curling into a ball, using his fluffy white tail to cover himself since once agan his clothes were all to large now. A low growl continued to rumble in the kitsune's throat as he was held, more or less powerless right now because of the hold.

Several of the soldiers were a little bit startled by the foxling that the man produced and there were a few disbelieving looks amongst them, as though they couldn't believing that this was the thief that was legendary in this region.

[Midnight Snack]

The captain of the guard certainly didn't seem to believe it. He cast a cold look over the small fox, and then at Riad.

"You can't be serious. That is not at sort of legendary thief." He shook his head and pinched the bridge of his nose. Riad sputtered angrily.

"Yes! He is! He's just.....smaller now. For some reason." Okay that didn't sound the best. Not at all. And it showed how unconvincing it was, when the guard captain continued to be unconvinced.

Master Riad, there is no way I can let you drag that...urchin before the king." the man turned and started for the door. He motioned to a pair of guards, who moved to flank Riad, and presumably make sure he left without helping himself to the treasure. One even bent to gather up the discarded clothing on the floor.

"What? No! He is the real thing! You tell him!" Riad turned to Kieran, even holding him out towards the captain. "Go on! Tell him you're the thief and how I caught you!"

A startled little noise left Kieran's lips when he was held out and more or less ordered to tell them that he was the thief. It would likely have been in his best interests to hold his tongue and let the guards continue to think that this was all some kind of trick or something but his pride wouldn't let him do that.

Pride always comes before a fall.

"Check the pockets of those clothes," the little foxling said in something of a smug voice, his lavender eyes going to the garments that he had lost when he shrank. Even though he had been downsized rather quickly he had already managed to swipe a few very precious artifacts and he was proud enough of that feat to point it out to the guards.

Which was probably a dumb move but he did it anyway.
