Unfortunately with his position as royal scientist, Gaster had no choice but to constantly by trying to improve life down in the Underground. It meant his children were either in school or left to their own devices, since Sans was now old enough to babysit his younger brother. “Unfortunately no, Papyrus. We’ll finish the book tomorrow, I promise.” Gaster said with a small smile, smoothing a hand over Papyrus’ skull.

Sans didn’t seem like he was in the mood to wake up, and Gaster chuckled softly. “You won’t sleep tonight if you don’t wake up.” He encouraged, but he did snuggle Sans up against his sweater. It was cold in the winter, and they didn’t have any fur or feathers to keep them warm. Gaster’s magic kept him warm, but Sans and Papyrus’ magic wasn’t as developed yet.

“Come on Sans, let’s wake up.” He tried again, giving his son a little shake. “You must be hungry, Kiddo.” Gaster stood up with Sans settled against his chest, ushering Papyrus into the kitchen while he carried Sans.

As tired as the older boy was, Gaster wasn’t dealing with an overtired Sans who was bored and wanted his father’s attention at midnight. He sat his older son on one of the chairs carefully, considering his sore little rear. “What do you two want for dinner?” Gaster asked, opening the fridge and looking back to them.

Papyrus sighed. As much as he would have loved to get to that best chapter, his father's word was final and he was in no position to argue...at least he had guaranteed that they'd finish tomorrow and nodded. "Okay father, don't forget that that's a promise, you have to keep it." He smiled and stood up beside his father while he continued to try and wake Sans, he was such a lazy bones, it was unbelievable! "Sans! Sans wake up!"

Sans sighed, there was no use in trying to stay asleep. With his father shaking him and Papy yelling at him, it was almost impossible. He slowly began to open his eyes and yawn. "I wasn't sleeping, I was just resting my eyes, that was an amazing movie we saw." Papy frowned. "You were asleep Sans, we were reading a book, not watching a movie!" Sans shrugged. "Well, books are just movies with pages and words, right?" Papyrus took his seat at the table, squirming just a bit, the seats were always so uncomfortable after getting punished, but he didn't dwell on it. Sans was sat beside his brother and couldn't the bit of squirming to try and get comfortable. "Dad, can we have hamburgers and fries?"

Papy shook his head. "But I want spaghetti and meatballs." Sans looked at his younger brother and shook his head. "Nope, hamburgers, and fries. It's my turn to pick anyhow."
"No, it's not! It's my turn!" Papy quickly protested. "No, you picked last time, which was a spaghetti and meatballs.

Gaster sighed internally when his sons immediately began arguing over dinner, glancing behind him. Truth be told, he was tired of hamburgers and spaghetti. If anything, he would rather eat neither of those things after all that time. “How about we try something new?” Gaster offered, turning around and leaning against the countertop. “We’ve been eating the same things for quite some time.” He added, tapping his chin.

“We could venture into town and see if there is something that all three of us can agree on?” Gaster suggested, looking from one squirming child to the other. It was cold out, but for Snowdin it wasn’t all that bad. Besides, the boys had been cooped up all day. “You can stretch your legs…and play in the snow…perhaps the Royal Guard is out patrolling.” He smiled, since he knew his youngest son practically idolized the opportunity to be apart of what was basically the army. Papyrus was too kindhearted to actually hurt anyone, but Gaster wasn’t going to crush his son’s dreams. Sans was more ambivalent on his future prospects, but Gaster knew that the older boy took after his father’s science proclivities.
