Jessica's Second Chance. (for Lil_Angel)

Tabitha Norris was known to be a firm but fair headmistress at the Toonerville Hight's private academy. However right now she didn't look like either of those things as she looked over the file for the newest student that was being enrolled there. She had a large track record of foster homes, group homes and schools that hadn't been able to handle her. I shouldn't judge her based on this. I should get to know her.

She thought as she headed toward the door, adapting the mask of someone who was all business as she headed toward the doorway and glanced over at the bench where the girl had been instructed to sit.



"I take it you're Jessica? I am Miss Norris, the headmistress here. If you would be so kind as to follow me inside my office please we'll get you set up." she stated, silently taking in the girl's body language as she debated on how to go about this whole process with the obviously troubled teen.

Jessica looked up at the huge building in front of her, she would deny it to anyone who asked but the 13 year old felt quite intimidated by it. She slowly closed the distance between herself and the entrance, clutching a letter in her left hand while the right pulled a large suitcase behind her, she was already slightly late but she didn't even want to be here and decided to take her own sweet time. She hadn't had the easiest start in life and had been passed around a few different care homes since she was born, both her parents were dead and she didn't have contact with anyone else in her family. It had caused her to develop a very protective shell around herself, if she didn't let anyone in, then they couldn't leave her or hurt her but unfortunatley it caused her to come across as harsh and uncaring, however, she also loved to be the centre of attention and knew exactly how to get it, whether that meant good behaviour or bad.

She reluctantly headed inside and presented her letter before being directed to the headmistress' office, she rolled her eyes and dramatically stomped off in the direction that she was guided, she dropped herself onto a small bench and pushed her red hair out of her eyes before pulling out her phone and beginning to tweet about her experience; of course, she was being extremely over-dramatic but she loved the reactions that people gave her and all the retweets that she would get. It was only a few moments later that the foor opened to reveal an older woman who introduced herself as the headmistress before she raised an eyebrow at her first few words "Who else am I gonna be? The new spanish teacher?" Jessica replied sarcastically, she hated when adults phrased a statement as a question that clearly didn't require an answer "And it's Jess. Not Jessica" Jessica corrected her quickly as she slipped her phone into her pocket and reluctantly pushed herself off the seat, dragging herself into the large office.

"Why did I even have to come here?" Jessica spat annoyed, almost as soon as the door was closed behind her "It's not my fault that my last school had a complete sense of humour failure" Jessica added quickly, she didn't doubt that she was making a very bad first impression which was her plan, they could send her here but they certainly couldn't make them keep her or force her to stay.

"Jess, you were sent here because your social worker thought that this school would help you find structure. I know that it probably doesn't seem fair but I promise you, there is a place for everyone here." She Tabitha stated with a small smile, despite the tone that Jessica was using. After all, Tabitha understood that anyone would be irritated if suddenly forced to go somewhere that they didn't want to, especailly if it was half way across the company.



"They lack a sense of humor? Tell me, what exactly did you do at that school. I promise, I won't judge." she stated, hoping to get the girl to open up a bit. She had been advised to keep a firm hand and close eye on the girl but she would perfer to get to know her before making any judgement on how she should approach the girl. After all, she didn't want to be too harsh with any of her students, even ones that were nortorious for causing trouble.

Jessica raised a slightly surprised eyebrow when she called her 'Jess', she hadn't expected her to actually listen when she corrected her because hardly any adults ever did, she rolled her eyes when she explained that it was her social worker that prompted her move to this school "Surprise, surprise. Old bat always sticking her nose in" Jessica complained quietly, she didn't exactly have a great relationship with her social worker and they frequently had arguments as she felt that she was never listened to and they just treated her like a child without her own thoughts.

"What about people that don't want to be here?" Jessica questioned harshly when she mentioned that everyone had a place there "Do you just force them to stay against thier will? You know that's illegal, right? It's like against human rights or somethin'" Jessica added quickly, deep down she knew that it wasn't really illegal because everyone had to go to school but that didn't mean that she agreed with it or thought that it was fair, after all, they would never force an adult to stay somewhere that they didn't want to be. Part of her felt bad for spouting all her anger at the headmistress who had been quite pleasant to her but she felt so annoyed and angry that she couldn't control it and she had to tell someone, it was just that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

She didn't try to hide her grin that crossed her features when she asked about what she had done at her last school "I decided to redecorate the school website, a little" Jessica answered cryptically, she waited to see her reaction before continuing "I photo-shopped all the pictures of the teachers and changed thier heads with farm animals" Jessica elaborated slightly, she had a lot more stories but she certainly wasn't going to reveal all her plans to the headmistress, telling her one small thing would allow her to see her reaction however and judge how much that she would have to do to be expelled "Oh, and I changed the school song on the website to 'Old MacDonald had a farm, for obvious reasons" Jessica added grinning proudly as she crossed her arms over her chest.

Tabitha tried to hide her amusement at that. "I see..." She said before sighing "No, it isn't illegal since technically those who enroll you are the ones who are legally over you." She answered, letting the girl express herself, knowing that this was a big change for the girl and she wasn't going to take that from the girl.

"See?" Jessica said grinning, she couldn't be sure but it certainly seemed that the headmistress was attempting to hide a smile as she revealed the reason that she'd been forced to leave her last school "Harmless, right?" Jessica added quickly, maybe this place wouldn't be so bad, after all, it seemed like she wasn't that unimpressed with her prank and may actually have a sense of humour, unlike most adults.

She rolled her eyes and sighed deeply when she disagreed with her former comment about the illegality of her being sent here "I'm 13. Not 3. Why can't I decide where I wanna' go and where I don't?" Jessica questioned angrily "Actually, what are you gonna' do if I just walk out of here, right now? You can't stop me" Jessica added with a smirk, her earlier anger dissapearing as she felt she gained more control of the situation, she had so many feelings mixed up inside that she wasn't sure how she was meant to feel.

"well that could go two ways." Tabitha stated, leaning against her desk "Either i could call the police and report a runaway or I could force you back into the school myself. Either way, I would perfer Not to do anything like that. But I can assure you that this place isn't the prison you are envisioning it to be."

"Police, seriously? Don't they have anythin' better to do with their time?" Jessica questioned in surprise, she didn't believe that they would really get involved but the word 'runaway' made her think twice. The police didn't seem that friendly and she certainly didn't want her first involvement with them to be something negative, she scoffed at her other choice "You? I'd love to see you try" Jessica muttered smugly, she had no doubt that she could get away from her quite easily, however, that would then lead back to her first problem "Really? Then prove and lemme leave. I won't tell anyone" Jessica replied quickly, she wouldn't admit it but she found herself becoming more and more endeared towards the headmistress, although she was trying to force the opposite.

"Fine" Jessica relented, her curiosity beginning to win out against her stubborness "What is this place then, if not a prison?"
