Default A Continuation Quandary

Hello and greetings to everyone.

I wrote a series of fictions for the site featuring the adventures of OC Rosaline and Scarlet. Don't recall them? That's probably because I uploaded them six-and-a-half years ago. The problem? I want to continue the story.

Ah, my muse is a fickle thing. And she certainly doesn't work to my schedule.

So! Good people of AOTK, my quandary is this. Do you have any ideas how best to continue the story without completely alienating the vast majority of people.

I was thinking of perhaps having links to the previous chapters, but I don't want to put people off by having pre-requisite reading.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you my friends!

I don't think I ever read any of your things (I read very few stories from this site in general), but I fail to understand the problem. Unless you have piles of convoluted continuity or multiple-layered inrigues, both of which are rather unlikely in spanking fiction, you should be able to easily write the story accessible for both new and old readers. E.g. you see plenty of stories, when two characters are just friends or lovers and the exact backstory of their relationship is not given and it doesn't hinder the readability, same goes for stories when characters meet in episode 1, but details of their meeting aren't focused on afterwards and their relationship just forms an underlying status quo. (I focused on the relationships here because that's usually the one continuity thing that matters in this sort of fiction, but it can be true for lots of other things e.g. how a character obtained their house, how they got their job.)

Thank you for your response SSJ. It means a lot to have a reply.

While I would agree the story is neither convoluted or overly complex, there is certainly a narrative I worked hard the create, but you are right. Six weeks or six years, I should be able to make each story engaging to a reader old or new. I appreciate the candid answer.

Some people don't like to see links within a story, whether they be hotlinks or not.

That said, an obscure brief reference followed by (see story title part 4) will give those who are interested to follow up searching for older works, while the less interested will know a brief backstory reference is enough to tide them over to allow them to finish reading the present story. Some think the brief reference is enough, and the adventurous will seek out previous stories on their own.
I have no problem either way.

Consider a person who watches the first Avengers movie with Steve Rogers (aka Captain America). Having never watched the first Capt movie, there are plenty of references to Steve's backstory, but few if any flashbacks. There are holes of information in the Avengers movie about Steve, but it doesn't stop the movie from proceeding. The adventurous will look for Capt's previous movies.

As for your muse, give her a well deserved spanking and tell her to get her act together. That's what I always do.
