Telling me what to not draw is the quickest way to make sure I don't enter a contest. Especially when "done to death" is such a subjective phrase.

I guess I know you want to see originality, but doesn't it kind of put a damper on things if the game is so obscure and unknown that most people won't even get it? I don't know, I guess I think the benefit of popular games at least is to give people the benefit of understanding jokes that could be told and such.

I want to enter but am pretty stumped for such a game. I guess I will think about it a bit longer.

If I willingly permit Sonic, Portal or Final Fantasy, we'll get 50 entries of Sonic, Portal and Final Fantasy. With respect, its been done many, many times before and unless you have a brainwave so strong its visible from space it'll likely be a repeated idea.

Sims is fine, as is stuff like Day of the Tenticle. The latter is a classic example of a game less common. I'm not forbidding anyone from drawing and entering a sonic pic, just noting that they'll be very heavily criticised by a number of people for doing it as well as drawing mass apathy at voting (I assume).

Is Portal spanking big? I swear I haven't any pics based on that game. This reads less like a valid concern and more a kneejerk safe guard to promote...whatever kind of material it is you're looking for. I could draw Mr Do getting spanked but I doubt anyone would give a flip. That people are asking permission before tackling subjects is sort of troubling.

I'm not saying these series should be ENCOURAGED. But singling a few series out simply because they're popular is pretty presumptuous. I really don't need my thinking done for me anymore than I need to enter this contest.

Yay, so it's not just me. As much as I love my obscure canons, the problem really is that obscurity ensures others not getting what it's about. Especially if the contest is supposed to be about clever ideas and jokes.

My issue isn't about sharing as such. I'd totally try something at this contest if there's a canon that would a)make the SP think not too much of a stretch but would B)be something that most people in this forum understand. The later part is the hard one. I sure could easily make a spanking work for Etrian's Odyssey, but who would get it?

I am PRETTY sure the contest allows video games from comsoles too, since final fantasy is explicitely mentioned as a "bad thing" TM.

It's amazing how all the people who said they supported my decision when I beta'd the idea of making this contest about 'obscure' or less mainstream, casual gamer, chav titles... are now NOT leaping to the defence of the idea in the face of some seriously butthurt individuals and their sockpuppet friends.

For the last time I'll say it: People can draw what they like, but I'll be seriously disapointed and a little pissed off if I get three entries of Sonic/Amy or Amy/Sonic, one of Mario spanking Sonic and four of Tifa spanking Yuffie "for being a thief!!"

By taking away the really easy and lazy ideas from the pool, I'd argue I'm forcing you to think more. But you've had mods delete 99% of your own gallery on this site and I don' think anyone is putting a gun to your head, feel free not to enter then.
