What's often not discussed is that these monsters aren't out to attack or eat children, as the legends say, but rather: to give them firm discipline; their clawed hands giving bottom-burning spankings to the rumps of naughty boys and girls the world over. How many boys and girls are bent over monstrous laps and spanked in the darkness of the night; falling asleep nursing reddened bottoms as the monsters slip back into the shadows? Most of them aren't willing to admit, and in any case their parents wouldn't believe such tall tales.
