The Thief and the Police Officer (for BBrool)

It was going to be another long shift for Captain Ernest T. Bass. Several of his underling officers called out due to illness or some other emergency.

"We are short-staffed right now," the police chief stated in the morning role-call meeting, "Some of you will have to pull double duty."

The other officers nodded and some groaned. Ernest knew that he would be patrolling the heart of criminal activity for the city and without back-up. Once the meeting was over, Captain Bass got into his patrol car and started his patrol.

"Come in T L 10," the dispatcher stated over the radio.

"This is T L 10," Captain Bass replied, "Go ahead."

"We have reports of a break-in at 23 Lexington Street," the dispatcher said, "Please investigate."

"10-4," Captain Bass commented as he headed over to Tony's Electronics.

Captain Bass hoped for the best, but he was in for a surprise.

In the shop known as Tony's Electronics is Lena. The girl is only 19 years old and she has already stole a bunch of money from other stores. Lena was wearing blue denim shorts with a white t-shirt, strangely she is also wearing a dark purple bandana. She had her handgun pointed at the shop clerk while taking the money out of the cash register.

Problem was that the woman didn't notice that the clerk activated the quiet that inform the police of a break in. After taking all the cash out the register she shot the clerk in the knee "sorry but I couldn't risk you calling the police..." asfter saying that Lena was about to exit the shop and get on her motorbike to ride off but then she spotted a police car "ah shit!" She wasn't sure to make a dash for the bike or aim a shot at the car which is giving Captain Bass enough time to get in the building.

Captain Bass pulled up just as the gunshot rang out, parked in front of the store, got out, and aimed his .45 handgun at the girl.

"Drop the gun and get on your knees," Captain Bass ordered, "With your hands on top of your head."

Out of all of her experience of robbing stores Lena never was in a situlation of having a cop directly pointing a gun at her without any form of escape. She spent the next second glaring at the gun, stunned with a slight scare, before dropping her gun onto the floor and fell down to her knees.

Captain Bass kept his gun trained on the girl as he approached her while calling for an ambulance for the shot store clerk. When he was able to get out his cuffs, he holstered his gun.

"You are under arrest," Captain Bass told the girl as he handcuffed her arms behind her back, "You have the right to remain silent, Anything you say or do can and will be used against you in a court of law, you have the right to an attorney, if you can't afford an attorney then one will be appointed."

Lena only sighed as she heard what Captain Bass said since she heard it in many TV series "do you ever bother finding a way to make that sound interesting?" she asked quite rudely before looking at the clerk "I hope he ain't too hurt."

"Not really," Captain Bass admitted, "Otherwise, criminals like you would get off for an officer not following proper Miranda waring protocol."

Captain Bass added a pair of zip-tie cuffs to the girl's wrists before putting her in the backseat of his patrol car. He closed the door and then went to check on the clerk. A short time later, an ambulance arrived. A few minutes later, Captain Bass got in the driver's seat and started the engine.

Lena did take notice of what Captain Bass say and waited patiently for him to come back in the car. The girl did sigh when she saw the ambulance come. "Is he going to be okay?" Lena asked Bass as he started the engine.

"Yes," Captain Bass replied as he started heading back to the station, "Lucky for you that you merely grazed his knee. He will be using crutches for a while, but he'll regain full use of his knee."

Captain Bass set something down in the front passenger seat. It was the girl's gun in a plastic evidence bag, along with the spent casing, that Captain Bass collected before getting back in his car.

"So," Captain Bass said, "What's your name?"

Lena nodded which was showing that she was listening to what Bass said about the condition of the shop clerk. She did notice that her gun is in an 'evidence bag' in the front seat yet when he asked for her name Lena looked out the window. It looked like she doesn't want to answer his question but after a couple of seconds the girl looked at Captain Bass "my name is Lena Pullis...what is your name?"
