Default Spanking in Books

Just a little thread so that we can expound about spanking in literature and books that we have read. Now, before you point this out, yes, I am fully aware of the Spanking Bibliography, which lists hundreds of books with scenes of spankings, canings, whippings, etc. but a majority of those are listed via second hand knowledge, and while it is comprehensive, it doesn't exactly talk much about the books themselves. I'm more interested in hearing straight from someone who has read a book whether or not it's worth picking up for more than just the spanking scene, as much as that may attract me to the book in the first place.

I can name a few off the top of my head that I've read: James Clavell's Asian Saga (Shogun, Tai-Pan, Gai-Jin, Noble House, King Rat, Whirlwind) all have at least one spanking scene in them, with Tai Pan having some extremely descriptive punishment scenes. Others like Shogun and King Rat have ones that are more implied than outright stated, but they both have some very sultry descriptions of female behinds being smacked. Clavell is a very good writer and I can honestly say this is one of the few historical fiction series that I've actually enjoyed reading. Yes, there are points where it plays fast and loose with historical fact, but bear in mind that's what it is fiction. I highly recommend the series, but be forewarned, most of them are REALLY dense, long reads. King rat is probably the shortest (mostly because it was the first that Clavell published) but most of the others are anywhere from 800 to 1,100 pages long.

Another I can think of was from a fantasy novel. Some of you are probably familiar with the Drizz't Do'urden books from Forgotten Realms author R.A. Salvatore. I love those books, so much so that I actually bought the original trilogy twice... alright, it was by accident, but I proudly have the books individually sitting on my shelf, and in a box set XD. Anyway, in the third book of the series, Sojourn, there's an implied switching scene where, after Drizz't accidentally scares a small boy shirking his chores, the boy's father takes him into the woodshed for a good whupping. Drizz't can hear the switching happening, and afterwards we spend a few moments with the boy as he's trying to rub the sting out of his butt in the corner of the woodshed. It's a tasteful scene, to be sure, and I actually find it very comical, and in a series like this, comedy is actually very welcome.

So what about you all? Read any good books lately that pertain to this topic? XD

The second book of the 'Song of Ice and Fire' series 'Clash of Kings' has three spanking scenes. One involves a descriptive use of a stick to cane a young girl, the other two are just briefly mentioned caning scenes. The book 'IT' by Stephen King has several instances where spankings are mentioned both for a young girl and the adult girl.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time saga has several spanking scenes and mentions spanking in most every book. Over all my favourite books of all time, these are VERY dense reads, the shorter ones being 600-800 pages.

Anne Rice did a trio of erotica books that were a twist on Sleeping Beauty under a different pen name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sleepi ... ty_Trilogy

Lots of spanking, every pairing you could imagine*, bdsm, d/s elements. You name it.

I remember someone mentioned Orphans of Chaos by John C. Wright. I think the spanking happened "off camera" so to speak, but it was a bit cute.

*Well, not every pairing you could imagine. I mean, you could imagine anything. That's the whole point of imagination.

Fun fact: Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw did a review of said Rice novel for his personal website before he started doing Zero Punctuation!
He didn't like it....You wouldn't think him a spanko...
But then again, if you watch his Bayonetta review...

Just, wow...

Remember that you're talking about a man who has made his entire career out of 'not liking things', I wouldn't put any weight in his opinions. If you like spanking, there's enough in those books to keep you happy.

I respect Yahtzee's opinions. I don't always agree with him, but he's not afraid to complain about games. Even if he likes them, he'll tell you what sucked about them. Sometimes to the point that you start to think he didn't like the game at all. That honesty is kind of refreshing.

I can also see why people wouldn't like Rice's Sleeping Beauty books. I could nitpick them myself and come up with a bunch of reasons. Hell a big one could just be the fact that it has every pairing you could imagine and you'll come across scenes or kinks that perhaps just aren't your thing. It's not a trilogy of spanking erotica after all, it's more of a trio of bdsm erotica. I'd perhaps even go so far as to say it was mostly about the dynamics of dominant and submissive. But at any rate it's likely there will be a few parts you just don't want to read. I got through all three and can think of several parts I'd just skip over if I went back and read them again. But on the other side I can think of several parts I really enjoyed. So I'd say approach it with an open mind and you'll probably walk away satisfied. It's sort of one of those something for everybody kind of erotica. You might not like scene A but scene B you'll find really sexy. Give it a try.

There was a story in our third or fourth grade book (can't remember what it's called, it's been more than ten years) where a kid decides to decorate his father's antique chest with a knife, carving out what he considers beatiful symbols (it's just childish "drawings", but to a kid's eyes, they're beautiful).

The father comes home and thinks the kid ruined the chest on purpose, and the kid, rather than explain why he did it, and that he did it to be kind, calls him a stupid shitsack. The father spanks him, for the chest, for the swearing, and for hanging out with the kid that taught him those swearwords (an older kid that the father knows very well, and has forbidden his son from hanging out with).

Well, we were reading out this story in class, each pupil doing a different part. Guess which part I was asked to read?

The spanking, of course.

At this time, I wasn't even close to understanding my interest in spanking, I just knew it made me feel strange, unable to think logically. I'd read the story a few times (I was always at least half a dozen chapters ahead of where we were supopsed to be), and I'd just feel enraged at (what my childish mind saw as) the injustice of it all - the kid had meant to do his dad a favour, and was punished for it. Anyway, I refused to read the sentences, just sat in my chair, head in my hands, my entire body shaking.

When I got older, and saw back at some of the strange things I've done, I wondered just what the people in my class thought when that happened, and more importantly, what the teacher thought. Maybe they thought I'd been beaten at home, or something? That was why I reacted so strongly?

But thinking about it again, I've always been weird, so that probably wasn't even the strangest thing I did that DAY, much less that year. They probably learned to ignore it at some point.

EDIT: Of course, this is all off topic, given that I have no way of finding that story again, so you can't use it to find new reading material, but I felt like sharing.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the switching Tom took for Becky in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" lol I admired a kid who was willing to take the fall for a girl he loved.

Well, definitely Wheel of Time. Robert Jordan seems to have been way into spanking. Sci-fi author Robert Heinlein also mentioned spanking in a lot of his books.
