Wild Love (Silvery_Lady)
Evan McAlister set his hands on his hips as he peered into the oven for the third time in ten minutes. His souffle was refusing to rise, and at this point his terribly romantic dinner was going to end with bowls of plain chocolate ice cream. Not exactly the sumptuous dessert he'd been envisioning.
Green eyes darted to the dish even as Evan headed to the counter to finish washing the dishes. The slender blonde flicked his ponytail over one shoulder and pushed up his glasses, huffing in pure frustration. He'd spent most of the day cleaning and preparing a mouth watering feast, but this last piece of the puzzle was going to ruin the whole thing.
The rare steaks were resting in the microwave to keep warm, the potatoes and grilled vegetables covered in foil and just waiting to be served. Evan pushed his glasses up his nose, drying and putting away the last dish. He wasn't going to freak out.
His home was his domain, and the diminutive Omega preferred to rule with an iron fist. At least until River came home.
Electing to ignore the souffle and simply pray that it would behave itself, Evan headed to light the candles on the table and begin setting everything out. He looked up at the clock and bit his lip. If River was late the man would call, or at least send him a quick text. Nothing to worry about.
Small hands fidgeted and fussed with his nice pale green shirt, he'd worn it just for tonight, but couldn't leave the silky fabric alone. He wanted tonight to be perfect for his eternally hard working mate, and to be honest it was making the little blonde edgy and stressed out.
When he looked at the souffle again, not fifteen minutes later, it had finally begun to rise and the young man was able to breathe a sigh of infinite relief. He could finally get excited about his mate coming home.
Everything was perfect.

Totally unaware of Evan's plans for the night, when River finally got home, he slammed the door open with a kick, entering the house while cursing out loud.
The tall man closed the door behind himself with another kick, and he walked into the living room, taking off his black leather jacket and throwing it on the couch.
-Evan!- he called out a moment after, while starting to sniff the delicious smell of the steaks in the air -Go get the first aid kit from the bathroom.- he added, taking a seat on his favorite armchair, the one in front of the TV.
His red tank top was ripped on one side, right above his hip, and at this point he simply decided to take it off, letting it fall to the floor; a long gash was now clearly visible on his tanned skin, probably the result of some fight with a knife.
Of course, being him a werewolf, he knew that the next morning he was going to be fine, thanks to the healing powers of their species, but still, he didn't wanted to bleed all over the house and in the bed.
When his mate appeared, River raised his head to look at him, a smirk now twisting his lips.
-Don't worry, i'm fine, it's just a scratch.- he told him, knowing how anxious he could be -Bring me the aid kit, i'll patch myself, then we'll have dinner. I can smell it and i'm sure that it's great.- the Alpha added -Come on, or i'll stain your shining floor.-
Said that, River pulled out his cigarettes from his pocket and a second later he was lighting one.

When the door slammed open Evan startled almost out of his skin, a soft defeated sound coming from his lips. The noise had totally deflated his beautiful dessert! Green eyes looked from the wilted treat, to the wall separating the living room and kitchen, with a glower. He set it down on the stove top and pulled off his oven mitts with a huff.
"River, honey, I've asked you..." his soft voice began to whine as he headed into the living room. Fair eyebrows knit together in worry as the slender man beheld his mates poor condition. "Alpha! What happened?" He squeaked, pinned to the floor as his eyes wandered the others battered and bleeding body.
"Okay I've got it!" Evan pushed up his glasses as he darted to the bathroom, grabbing a towel out of the closet as he passed it and quickly snatching up the first aid kit. He hurried back to the others side.
"Let me stitch you up love," he begged quietly, holding out the requested item and shifting from one foot to the other anxiously. "Please." He needed to help his mate and Alpha with his wounds, but didn't want to fight him on the issue.

The Alpha male rolled his blue eyes at the ceiling, with a sigh; of course Evan was reacting like he had expected, despite his reassurances.
-I'm fine.- he repeated -And i'll stitch up myself, you don't need to worry. I'm used to it.- River smiled at his mate, stretching out his big hand to take the AID Kit from him, once the other was back from the quick trip to the bathroom -But if you could soak that towel for me, so i can clean off the blood, i would appreciate it.- he added, giving him something to do -And take one of my ashtrays, i don't want to scatter ash all around the room.-
The dark haired man took a deep puff from his cigarette, relaxing for a second against the armchair's back, closing his eyes.
-A couple of drunk guys started to annoy one of the girls at the club, while she was on stage, so i had to throw them out. One of them had a knife. Now i have his knife and he had a few of his teeth in a pocket. Nothing too serious.- he explained to his mate, with a calm voice -How was your day?-
After the brief story about his injury, River tried to make Evan focus on something else, because he knew how apprehensive he could become, in less than a minute.

Evan pursed his lips for a moment, debating the merit of arguing. River was hurt however, and the little blonde didn't have the heart to fight with him. He took the towel with a soft, "Yes sir." He soon returned with the wet towel and an ashtray, placing it on the table next to the others favorite chair. Green eyes were anxious as he made his mate a drink, two fingers of whiskey, neat.
"That's what the bouncers are for honey," Evan piped up as he settled on the arm of the chair, offering the glass. He knew the other would want a stiff drink after his fight. "You shouldn't be getting into fights with thugs."
The smaller man continued to pick at his fingers anxiously. "I made dinner and cleaned, it was alright." Evan tried to laugh a little, but it sounded weak. "Not as interesting as your day."
He'd been trying to work up the courage to ask his Alpha to let him work at the club as well. Maybe as a waiter or something, Evan wanted to be part of everything in his loves life. He wanted to help him.
But every time he started to do something like make a nice meal to start to conversation over, something went wrong. There was no way the slender little blonde would be allowed to work at the club if there were always fights there. River probably wouldn't even entertain his idea right now.

-Thanks.- he told him, when the blonde man returned with the wet towel; River wasn't the kind of man to use sweet words and nice nicknames, but now that he was talking to the person he loved, his voice was sounding lower and softer than with anyone else -I know, i know, but i can't deny it; i enjoy a little fight, from time to time. And i don't want anyone to treat my girls like that, they're not whores.- he added, now frowning a little bit, remembering the reason why he had got involved in the quarrel.
Anyway, when Evan brought him that drink, he smiled widely, taking the glass and drinking the whiskey in it in just a couple of sips.
-That was just what i needed.- the Alpha told him right after, giving back the empty glass to his mate -Why don't you pour me some more, uhm?- he said, waiting for the other one to stand up again, ready to give him one sharp smack on his backside, pushing him a little forward, just to joke a little -Then set the table, i'll be ready in a minute, if you let me work, okay?- River concluded, taking the last puff from the cigarette and then abandoning the stub in the ashtray.
It was time to stitch the cut on his hip and move on with the night.

Evan sighed, adjusting his glasses once more. "You're right. Those girls don't deserve to be picked on by drunks all day." The others protective streak was something that had always made him a little weak in the knees. It was such a primal thing to take care of those who needed it. Like Evan.
Green eyes lit up and his worry dissolved in the wake of River's bright smile. All the pet names and sweet words in the world wouldn't mean as much to the young man as that smile and those soft words of praise. His smile glowed as he took the empty glass, squeaking at the playful slap. "Okay, you'll love dinner. I even," his face fell as he poured another healthy drink for his love.
"Well there was a souffle," the small blonde set the filled glass down for River to take. "But it's ruined." His lips pursed a little, it wasn't the other man's fault per say, but it was still a lot of work that was pointless now. He couldn't serve the ugly dessert, his perfectionist streak wouldn't allow it.
Evan sighed as he headed into the kitchen, setting the table and leaving the dishes in the sink for when the meal was over and his love was settled in to watch some TV.

-I'm always right, i'm the boss.- River joked with him, letting out a laugh, before taking the glass from Evan's hand for the second time and drinking his beloved whiskey from it.
Man, he loved coming home at the end of a hard day!
-I'll eat it anyway, i promise.- he then said, when the younger man was complaining about his poor souffle -I'll eat it and i'll like it, i'm sure. So don't worry for this kind of things, it's not the end of the world.- he concluded, finally opening the AID kit and starting to prepare the needle and the sterilized thread, ready to patch himself.
Less than five minutes later, the Alpha was back on his feet and the gash on his hip was already starting to heal; he stretched up his arms until his shoulders cracked.
-Okay...now we can eat.- he announced, walking to his place at the head of the table and sitting down -How about a nice beer, Evan? We both deserve a little prize after today's hard work, don't you think?- he concluded, while grabbing the remote, clearly ready to turn on the TV.
Not very romantic, to be honest.
-Maybe i can catch the game from the start...- he muttered, trying to remember the channel where the football match was going to be aired, that night.

"Well I know it's not the end of the world," Evan couldn't help but roll his eyes a little at that. It still made him feel warm inside to know that the other would eat his ruined dessert, so his flash of temper was just that, a flash. "Well I can just cover it in whipped cream so you can't tell it's all deflated."
"Actually I bought wine for the steak. It's a good pairing I promise." He called as he headed into the kitchen to get the red wine that would go with their meal, it had been 'breathing' as per directions and would go perfectly with the rare meat.
"Love," Evan bit his lip when he came back, bottle in hand. He started to pour as he asked his question. Voice soft and pleading. "Can we record the first part of the game? Just until dinner is over." Green eyes peeked at his muscular mate. Honestly River had no appreciation for romantic things.
Well the other man was right about not wasting their meal after all. He'd spent most of the day working up his courage anyway.
"A-and I had something to ask you," he sat back down in his chair, picking his nails once more with anxiety.

-Perfect, then. Problem solved.- the Alpha said and with that, the dessert's issue was closed, for him.
He really didn't cared much about that kind of stuff, he had always been a very practical man.
River just nodded after that, when Evan started talking about the wine and the steaks.
-Okay, i trust you.- he giggled -Let's taste this wine.-
But, when the blonde man came back with the bottle and he started to talk once more, suddenly something snapped inside the Alpha's mind; he was finally starting to notice that there was something different in the air.
He stopped, turning his head to look at Evan, who had took a seat next to him meanwhile, and he calmly took a good sniff at him, waking up his werewolf's genes.
Now he could smell his mate's anxiety and he frowned a bit, worried.
-Forget the game.- he told him, putting down the remote -What's happening? Are you in trouble or something?- River asked, trying to imagine what Evan could want from him.
And he started to put two and two together: the nice dinner, the wine, the souffle; maybe the blonde man was trying to ask for forgiveness? Or to ask permission for something?
-You can ask me everything, you know that.- the Alpha added -Come on, i'm listening.-
