Lightbulb Discipline Delivered: A Spanking Rhythm Game



Hello everyone, it's been quite a long time since my last post, let alone my last advertised project. I've been away from game making for a long while, and paused my work on SQII due to other obligations taking my time and my interest in RPGMaker game making dwindling as well. However in my free time I was experimenting with other ideas and other engines and decided to revisit my old game jam submission, Discipline Delivered. I like how the game turned out as far as a 2 week project goes, but I realized that as a full fledged game it left a lot to be desired. I did a lot of brainstorming and work to rebuild the game from the ground up, and I'm finally satisfied with how it turned out.

I come here today with a demo that has the major gameplay elements (by far the most complex components) completed. For those who remember my original project, the premise is very similar. You take the role as a (currently faceless) employee at Momoiro Discipline Solutions, a company that exists in a (maybe?) dystopian future where corporal punishment in the form of spanking has been declared the only acceptable punishment for crimes/misdeeds. The company uses remote operated spanking robots/androids which are dispatched to homes, businesses, or other locations and delivers the spankings the recipients have earned, at the request of their clients (parents, schools, or even the government). You play the role of an operator of one of these robots, and issue commands in the form of a rhythm game to ensure the spanking is delivered properly.

I have lots of content and plans for the game which will expand the concept beyond what I've described so far. Plans that I wish to gradually divulge through posts on my Patreon in between updates. At the moment there are 3 playable jobs with one character featured as the spankee, a girl named Chrys. I hope you all enjoy this first look into a project I'll be continuing in the future.

Instructions: For Windows users just extract the rar and run the DisciplineDelivered.exe, for Mac and Linux I'm unfortunately unable to test these releases, but you will be looking for an "nw" file of some sort in the folder to run the game. On the job screen click the "generate job" button to add 1 of 3 possible jobs to play through, they will always add in the same order. There are also only "hand" spanking jobs available currently. On the actual game screen, press the left, down, and right arrow keys to hit the left, middle, and right notes respectively. You can also press the spacebar to pause the game during the spanking portions. The other menus are placeholders for later features I'll be adding. If you have additional questions or issues to mention, please comment and I'll try to address them as soon as able.

The concept of spanking really lends itself to a rhythm game, I think.

For a demo it's really fun and I wish you luck for the future development.

Thanks Bagool (and thanks so much for SQ!) , this prototype/gameplay loop is already something fun and innovative, I like it and I thing it shows a lot of promise! Love the art as well. Looking forward to any updates!



Also this game needs some cool tunes

@HolyMolyManiac: I always thought so as well, which is why I really wanted to make a full fledged game involving it and not just a proof of concept. Glad you're looking forward to more.
@spnkMarkus: Thanks for the compliments! Music is definitely something I want to work on at a later update, I have lots of additional content and ideas planned for the future, and not just more characters or implements.

@deadp: At a later point I'll make certain fail conditions depending on the severity of the spanking you're working on, but these failures likely won't result in much more than a PP penalty (the in-game currency).

I really enjoyed this demo, it shows a lot of great promise

2 critiques and 1 suggestion.

Critique 1: I wish the visual of the person facing forward was more obvious about what it was showing. I had a hard time telling what I was looking at when I first looked at it, but the solid green makes it look like her head is on a chair.

Critique 2: all that being said, the side visuals feel very, lifeless, right now, which isn't really a problem, since this is a demo after all, but I feel like its still important to say. The head moves independently of the body, the movement from the front camera looks disjointed with the bottom camera, and there doesn't really feel like theres much *impact* despite the point being to spank her.

Suggestion: I really enjoyed how each direction has you hit a different spot on her butt, left middle and right, so how about for getting an A rank, or for filling the bar, you get one of those "guitar hero" moments where you get to press any button you want for a time period, like a victory lap. You could have the bar drain back down at the end, signifying how long the victory lap lasts. This also gives the player time to stare at the images while spanking, without worrying about missing any beats.

All in all, these complains are minor things, and I bring them up only because what you have here is amazing. As far as demos go, I would give this one a solid 8/10.

@johny: Thanks for the detailed comment.
Re 1: That's a good point at it made me realize I had left the animation for the face view unchanged from before I thought up the design for the spanking robot. It's meant to be her over the lap of the robot during the spanking, but I didn't have the color for it picked out yet so I left what she's laying over as green.
Re 2: That's a fair complaint to make as I didn't put as much time into the animations as I could have if the visuals were going to be the main focus. I figured since the player's attention would be split between the animations and the gameplay, it wouldn't be a good use of time to polish the animations when other aspects of the game needed more focus. However you weren't the first to comment on the lack of impact, so this gives me the idea to make the animations less detailed but more "fluid" if that makes sense. Hopefully that will work as a compromise between animation quality and time/effort.

As for your suggestion, that's a pretty interesting idea and I could see how it'd be an extra perk for players who did well in the game. The only issue I could see with is is that the different difficulties and severity rankings in the game were meant to correspond to very specific numbers of spanks delivered, so I'm not sure how it'd mesh with the bureaucratic theme of the game. I'll definitely put some thought into it.
