Sappho's Hammers: Association I - 15.
Page fifteen of fifteen.
The Final Page - at long last!

The JUMP effect was rather heavily layered, but without any computer rendering ability (or moving frames) it was the best I could come up with.

Contrary to popular belief the Eldar can enter the webway if there's no nearby gate, they can create temporary gates wherever they like... the trouble is the technology is very dangerous, the webway itself is crumbling to say the least and there's preditors on the hunt who make intercept you... without a farseer screaming in your ear, most Eldar wouldn't risk it.

As I said, this is the 15th and final page of Part One and Part Two is now looking indescribably unlikely.

If I must be honest, I'm disapointed in the reception this comic has had: not just in comparison to other works of mine but compared even to the interest in other peoples art in the last week - I've clearly missed the mark.

I don't need comments to measure my worth as a human being, but I didn't expect so little reaction or interest; I grossly overestimated the demand, interest or desire for people to see a plot-based sci-fi comic.
I don't even think its the warhammer setting, I know there's plenty of warhammer fans resident on this site, so I've shelved Part Two indefinately.
I will endeavour to try other projects that I think will both stimulate me and my audience.

I really enjoyed working on this comic myself and I certainly learned a lot which helped me with my Mina's Montage and the MSP3k shorts. In future I intend to continue with contemporary themes.

Eh? In one week you've gotten more comments than all of my stories dating back four years. This one picture, uploaded this morning, already has more views than my latest piece, which was the first thing I've finished and submitted here since 2008.

@ Cypher; Stories I'll grant you (Although not to sound like I'm whining, excluding my own replies, 9 comments for last 16 pictures I've posted is fairly sub-par compared to my peers) the fiction section does need work on this site.
I said that I'm 'disapointed' and I don't think thats unreasonable

I'm sorry to hear that you're shelving this comic. I've been enjoying it. With a series like this, I usually wait until the last page is posted before I comment. That way I can consider the work as a whole. Could be others would do the same.

The two-part plot was well thought out and evenly paced. Plenty of action and plenty of detail. The militaristic nature of the Hammers comes through especially well, from the crisp, methodical way they approach their missions to the coded, radio-speak they and their advesaries use.

The one thing I would like to see though is more interaction between the characters. I realize there is not a lot of room for nuance in sixteen panels, but I think it would help the overall story if we could see not just what the Hammers are, but who they are. Maybe just a few small touches to sort of bring their characters to the forefront. A single word whispered by a soldier, like "Amateurs..." shows disdain for the enemy and a sense of confidence in one's own unit. An uneasy look from another as she grips her rifle would speak volumes about her own inexperience and anxiety. A finger pointed in another's face shows conflict about to boil over while an arm across the shoulders of the woman next to her would display a deep level of comradeship, the kind of comradery that could only be forged in the crucible of battle.

I look forward to see what you'll produce next.

shame your shelving this. i for one enjoyed it a lot. i also think the effects ( specially the warp jump here ) were done pretty well. the eldar could do with a slight re-design but thats just my critical eye. overall it was very nice to have a sci-fi story ( specially warhammer ) that had at least some form of plot. we could do with a bit more plot overall here. so kudos to you.

guess well see what the future brings.

I like the story well enough, for being basically a fan-fic comic, though being the 40k fanboi that I am, I have had to just sort of hand-wave certain things, in the interest of it being just a comic, and not go all TFG on it.

Then again... I am a big, big, big fan of the Imperium, specifically, and the 40K setting as a whole. I really like the Grimdark. Not quite sure how it would work out as a "funny comic" rather than a "collection of sequential art comic".

Aw, you're shelving this? That makes me sad. I for one have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's your decision, but I just hope you'll reconsider.

@Iconoclast; I've tried to add a little of what you suggested. Perhaps it was something obvious more to me than others - At the start of the comic, Anji and Elsie were relaxign happily, informally while El'ane slips passed complaining about undisciplined Mon-keigh rabble, Mina's grin on page 9 as she's eager for combat - the consant belief of the Eldar that the humans couldn't suprise them, while they're really outside the door about to storm in. On the previous page I tried to show the Sappho bording team as anxious as they prepared. These things were little touches I added, perhaps I should have made them louder rather than just whispering them.

@ Aprion; Thank you ^^. Everything I've learnt from making this is going into future productions, negative lessons as well as the good, so I should be able to make other comics a lot easier - as I noted during my MSP3k stuff.

@ Aka; Many thanks, I hope you'll equally enjoy my other future projects instead.
