yumeiro-patissiere-1-halftone

Page 1a of 5.

This is a comic I've been working on (and off) for about two weeks now. Its based on the excellent Anime Yumeiro Patissiere!

Yumeiro Patissiere is your basic challenge Anime, the protagonist joins a Japanese school devoted to the art of making sweets, cakes and other desserts to become a world-class Patissiere.

The characters in this comic are Makoto Kashino (The guy) and Miya Koshiro (The girl). The little fairy between the two is Chocolat - the definition of a Tsundere character.
Oh, did I not mention it has fairies? Everyone at the school has a fairy from the magical kingdom to help them bake delicious sweets so they can become magical chefs in the queen-fairies royal court.
Such is life in Japan.
Miya is a pureblood Heiress, complete with laugh, and very Yandere in her obsession with Makoto. She is very much in love with him and will do anything to get him to love her back.

I've based this comic around Episode 26 - its probably the closest Miya comes to getting exactly this from Makoto.

I'm posting both the B&W Halftone version, and the coloured version... I don't know which of the two I prefer. To speed the drawing process and to get Miya's complex hair just right I used a few part-references from the anime for proportion, a few frames in the comic I pretty much lifted exactly as-is.
Pages will come one-by-one, I'm still finishing them.

"Ugh" The typical reaction of the non lecherous style anime boy when cute anime girls inordinately throw themselves at said boys.
It's almost like swatting at pesky flies around one's head, good thing there aren't any fly swatters within arms reach. XD

If she truly is Yandere as you say, then that fellow is in grave confectionary danger....
RUN LAD, RUUUUUUNNNN !!!! X(

That aside, your pacing is good, and your expressions have definitely become more experienced. ^^
Hope to see that crazy girl get her rump roasted soon ! X3

I’m going to make some comment here; one of the most common mistakes about the black and white is use the grays as “colors” if you look both of your images side by side you’ll notice that the gray one is just a gray version of the color one, like you take the colored one and turn into shades of gray whit Photoshop, “you need to think in black and white” a photography teacher used to tell me, contrast is the key you have to use pure black and white to draw the attention where you want, example: draw the attention to your characters by contrasting against the background make the girl’s dress complete black or use lighter grays for the background. My advice go and see the work of some artist like Toriyama (dragon ball) strong use of blacks little use of the halftone or Kohsuke Fukushima (oh! My goddess) high use of halftones for great contrast.

@ EMN;
I know its just a greyscale variant (with a few halftone flourishes), I'm not trying to make a true-black style, I'm looking for a greyscale version that I like - I'm posting both to ask what people prefer of these two styles specificlaly, not whether they'd like me to do something else.
I have actually knocked this up for you:

This is pretty much closer to what you're talking about, I think - its nice but its really not the path I want to explore at the moment. If I fix this true-black page up in the future to actually look good (redo the text, remove the extra lines/borders) I may post it.

That black and white is more what I’m talking about, looks pretty nice, lets see were this going, in the meantime this set me in the mood of some black and white, I will do something about it…
