romans-redux

Well, I wanted to try something out and remake an old picture of mine that I'd drawn for a contest on this very site about 7 years ago (!)

Here's the original : https://animeotk.com/gallery/showpho...ead-to/cat/887

I think there's been some progress, haha! I tried to keep the composition more or less as it was, adding characters and details, background, etc.

Anyway, I think people liked it then, I hope you'll like it now !

There is a lot of improvement. You can compare a lot of aspects between those two images and see where you got better.
Seven years is a long time of course, glad you used them well for your art.

WoW! THIS is not only hot but it's historical! The Kelts in Britain were heavily influenced by the Picts living to their North, in what is now Scotland. I don't know much about the Picts; I've heard they were a non-Indo-European people who spoke a non-Indo-Europran language, so I guess they were the descendants of the people who lived in Britain before the Kelts came. But the Kelts borrowed this practice of inking, I guess tattooing themselves, from the Picts because, maybe, it served as great camouflage for them in the many, many forested areas of Britain in those days; the Kelts were a warlike people who, when they didn't have "outsider" people to fight fought against themselves, clan vs. clan. So, when the Romans came at the command of Claudius Caesar, they found Britain pretty easy to conquer because there was no union amomg the Britons, and their allies, some Kelts marrying into them, the Picts--Kelts were too bust fighting each other to worry about invasion. Besides the European people of those days thought that the West, the direction at which the sun sets, was likewise the end of the world, so I gues the Keltic and Pictish people who inhabited the island in those days thought they were pretty safe, living in the "West" as they did. They were wrong. Anyway, my friend, congratulations on this excellent, beautiful representatation of young Keltic women in Britain punished by Romans. Keltic leaders always accepted women into their armies, so I think the women being chastised here are warriors, especially considering their tattoos, the marks of a warrior in Britain. The Romans are thrashing and humiliating the women submission; the reproduction of the as-yet unspanked Keltic girls, maintaining their legendary fierceness even after capture, is totally true to life.
